And does this make me a miserable old quichey cliquer?

Cod, Tutter, Hunker, JV, Greeny et al.
All gone.

Even I thought last night that I might take some time off FGS.

[hugs OO]

We are due our apparently annual Crap On A Conchie thread, some time around 11 November, re poppies, I'll probably do my annual stomp then as huge numbers of people get rabid about pacifism.

expatinscotland · 13/10/2008 13:41

I know what MI means as well.

I never said a sodding word about edufuckingcation, ffs.

PuppyMonkey · 13/10/2008 13:43

You lot do sound like sad old rock stars... ooh the 70s were so good, it's not the same now. There are lots of witty newbies and not so newbies on MN, you just haven't discovered them yet.

BigBadMouseInHauntedHouse · 13/10/2008 13:44

Well if you all know what MI means why not post something which is witty, well written and intelligent to make yourselves feel better?

expatinscotland · 13/10/2008 13:46

See, that's the whole point, though. MI makes a comment as such and in two ticks a bunch of folks come on feeling put out by it and thus pretty much prove her point.

While I'm sure it was all green fields etc (I do like the sound of it being "like an erudite dinner party" ), and it has definately changed since I joined in 2006, still for every day where it's all a bit tedious there's another day where a poster makes you laugh, or reconsider a view, or want to discuss something interesting.

I do get hacked off with it all and do nothing but have the occasional lurk for a while, but then MN will just suck me back in - there are clearly some nutters, but there are way more articulate, kind, interesting posters whose opinions I value.

sinkingfast · 13/10/2008 13:49

I miss the fact that I could read most of it in the time I had available, so therefore knew what was going on. It seems now that I would have to sit here full time and even then still would miss most things. Active conversations shoots off the board so quickly now. I know what MI means - the wit is still there, but much diluted and harder to find tbh. I don't really think it's anything to do with oldies vs newbies though - posters like ahundredtimes who can make me snort tea through my nose on a regular basis have not been here that long iirc. I think it is just the sheer size of the site now.

SharpMolarBear · 13/10/2008 13:49

it's possible to use someone's name while they've namechanged? Did I read that right?
OMG I think I might deregister as well

Why TDWP?

Prufrock · 13/10/2008 13:54

I find it quite amusing that people that I remember as "newbies" who objected to "oldies" bemoaning the way the site changed back in 2003/4 when chat had to be introduced are now themselves complaining about how it's changed.

It is a different animal now - not necessarily worse (though IMH and personal O it is) but very different form those early days. A pub, rather than a dinner party.......

YANBU - You Are Not Being Unreasonable - AIBU was introduced as a topic because so many of us were asking it.

Rhubarb · 13/10/2008 13:59

Hello Pru!

VictorianSqualorSquelchNSquirm · 13/10/2008 13:59

Maybe I just saw it as different when I joined though just lately the way I've seen threads is that someone posts something, someone disagrees, then someone strops and twenty threads appear out of nowhere about it.

Everyone that isn't relatively well-known gets 'TROLL!' shouted at them if they dare to post something someone doesn't like or think rings true.

I used to like posting on serious threads, now a lot of the time I just think 'What's the point' but then that possibly says more about me than MN.
