And does this make me a miserable old quichey cliquer?

Cod, Tutter, Hunker, JV, Greeny et al.
All gone.

Even I thought last night that I might take some time off FGS.

I think she is still around sometimes, but not in her usual caustic form

RustyBear · 13/10/2008 12:42

Franca - read this

slim22 · 13/10/2008 12:42

Oh no!

Fennel · 13/10/2008 12:43

I've been here 5 years and when I was first here the oldies then were going on about how it wasn't what it used to be, and how sad it was that the old people had left, and that the threads weren't as witty.

And then, sooner or later, someone will link to the Life Cycle of a Chatroom to show it happens in all chatrooms.

francagoestohollywood · 13/10/2008 12:45

Thanks rusty [smile

francagoestohollywood · 13/10/2008 12:46

Oi Fennel, I was thinking about you!!!!!

FAQ · 13/10/2008 12:46

Agree with Fennel - I@ve been here 4yrs (nearly) and every 6-18 months or so stuff like this crops up, everyone goes "omg omg omg there's so many trolls and people leave".....then it all quietens down until the next time.

This process will continue ad naseuem long after we're all rotting in the ground

BlackEyedDog · 13/10/2008 12:51

I'm a newb

I must say I do feel a bit bad for you oldies. It must feel like you've been holding the most marvellous party only to be gatecrashed by a million of us oiks.

If it makes you feel better (it won't) I do think this place is mraculous and I really wish I'd known about it in 2003 when I had ds - I had such I tough time and could really have used you lot.

Please don't go anyone

Fennel · 13/10/2008 12:51

Look, here's a thread from 2002 (before my time) with people flouncing away and complaining it's not what it used to be.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/9/3942

Lots of those early flouncers appear to be still here too.

(hi Franca!)

expatinscotland · 13/10/2008 12:52

i do miss FrenchGirl.

JollyPirate · 13/10/2008 12:54

Reading this thread with interest. I take issue with the statement made by one poster that newcomers are not witty and/or intelligent like the old timers. Not witty/intelligent? Or not welcome/made to feel welcome because it threatens the status quo?

I like MN and all the chat which goes on here. At then end of the day though it's a parenting board and everyone is welcome NOT just a select few. The sooner this is accepted the better.

Enjoy the board for what it is and not for what you think it should be.

francagoestohollywood · 13/10/2008 12:56

That 2002 thread... gosh people were much more erudite, weren't they

Elliegant · 13/10/2008 12:59

Well said Jolly..

I originally posted about 3 years ago, then
lost internet access for a long time and started again few months back so would be considered a newcomer who is obviously not very funny or intelligent!

I don't remember MN being so bitchy when I posted back then.

Mercy · 13/10/2008 12:59

And the time gaps between people are posting are huge compared to now!

Spidermama · 13/10/2008 13:03

I certainly preferred MN a few years ago. It was more interesting. I think there are perhaps just too many people so it's watered down.

I still love having my MN resource. It's like a large group of friends all locked in the computer and you can let them out and put them back any time you like. Perfect for the busy mum.

I'm not on here very often nowadays though.

MorticiaAnnSpookington · 13/10/2008 13:06

I've been here since 2002 and I like the way it's evolved, surely that's normal and healthy...things move on and change..

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 13/10/2008 13:08

When were the good days?

I've been here since 2005 and it hasn't changed much.

'too much behaviour amongst members'

Oooh and justine follows that old line that schizophrenics have multiple personalities, norty norty.

motherinferior · 13/10/2008 13:26

Oh christ I miss having a site like the MN from 2002. I came here - and yes, admittedly I am still here, ahem - because I was snared by the quality of writing here. Yes, it was witty and intelligent. No, it's not nearly the same now.

I would not, I think, be nearly as attracted - as a new poster - by the site as it is now.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 13/10/2008 13:36

why motherinferior, because it has been infiltrated by lesser educated types? What on earth do you mean?

motherinferior · 13/10/2008 13:38

Because it was funny, witty, well-written, that's why. I just don't find it the same now. I didn't say anything about education.

Oliveoil · 13/10/2008 13:38

I know exactly what you mean MI
