Isn't it? 'little man' , 'my little man'... ranks among 'tot' and 'yob' for me. Not as bad as 'my sexy little man' but still...

I call my DS 'little man' quite a lot.

Who on earth calls their child sexy?!

ForeverOptimistic · 09/10/2008 11:44

I think it is quite cute. I never used it myself but it doesn't grate on me.

VictorianSqualorSquelchNSquirm · 09/10/2008 11:45

But a boy is a little man.
I don't like tot but I don't mind little man.
I call mine 'munchkin' mostly or 'my little monkey' it's crass, I know, but it's not a big deal.

LadyOfWaffleIsScaryEnough · 09/10/2008 11:46

little man is sweet. Sexy little man?? That's just bizare!

Upwind · 09/10/2008 11:46

by that reasoning, little girls are little women

wotulookinat · 09/10/2008 11:46

I call my son my little man or the little monster so YABU.

hauschkahels · 09/10/2008 11:46

YANBU- I have 2DS & DH , so HATE it when people say "How are your little men, & DH!!!!" or when DS2 had an operation , for weeks people were calling me to as "How is the little man" or FELLA!!!!!! which is even worse.

melancholymum · 09/10/2008 11:46

we just call him 'the boy' - it is meant in an endearing way but we do sometimes get some disgusted looks of people who think that we don't think him worthy enough of a name!

He does have a name of course, and we do sometimes use it

VictorianSqualorSquelchNSquirm · 09/10/2008 11:47

Or little ladies.

My BiL always calls DS1 'fella'.
It's just a term of endearment and DS loves it, he feels all grown up.

TsarChasm · 09/10/2008 11:47

I use it to my ds, but only to him not talking about him to other people.

Never heard of the 'sexy' one before though..

Ewe · 09/10/2008 11:48

I sometimes call DD little lady! I like it.

Nobody is forcing you to use affectionate nicknames that you don't like for your children. Different strokes for different folks and all that...

melancholymum · 09/10/2008 11:48

I've heard parents call their daughters little ladies so it is quite similar. Doesn't offend me at all btw.

beanieb · 09/10/2008 11:48

resolves to call her as yet unborn daughter 'little woman' until she is 18!

melancholy we use 'the boy' too.

Was it family guy where he said 'I'll take the boy' ? DP always says that.

purpleduck · 09/10/2008 11:48

me too melancholy....
"you -the boy!! please could you stop doing that...!"

witchandchips · 09/10/2008 11:51

Pre ds hated it with a vengeance now love it. Its a bit like that promising yourself that you will not turn into one of those couples that only really talk about their children!

witchandchips · 09/10/2008 11:52

or putting their lo on the phone
or sending cards with dcs dressed as father christmas

Sherida · 09/10/2008 11:52

Warning - Twee name incoming.... I call my daughter beautiful lady sometimes even precious lady. First time mum, can you tell?

wotulookinat · 09/10/2008 11:53

I don't like 'the boy'. DH and his father both call my BIL 'the boy', and he's now 26!

SuperPsychoFabioSaver · 09/10/2008 11:53

I use it too.

after three little ladies, it was such a thrill to say 'little man'

VinegARGHHHTits · 09/10/2008 11:53

yabu, i call ds 'my little man' sometimes, i never thought of it in the same rank as 'yob'

I mostly call him 'my little boy' because he is, but nothing wrong with 'my little man' either

TsarChasm · 09/10/2008 11:54

Oh, very young children 'on the phone to say hello' or worse letting them answer it in the first place is highly annoying, especially if you're in a bit of a hurry.
