Isn't it? 'little man' , 'my little man'... ranks among 'tot' and 'yob' for me. Not as bad as 'my sexy little man' but still...

I don't mind 'little man', don't really have much feeling one way or the other about that.

What I do hate is 'The Boy'

People say that to us all the time...
'and what will 'The Boy' have?'
'are you bringing 'The Boy'?'
'What does 'The Boy' want for Christmas/his birthday'

If you live in the Fens ! Little Man is quite a common phrase along with my man ! Thinks it's a nice pet name to use but it's personal preference.

BouncingTurtleSkulls · 09/10/2008 13:01

I call my ds little man and have done since he was born. So YABU.
Sexy is ergghhh though!!!

potatofactory · 09/10/2008 13:05

I think 'little man' is nasty. Makes me think of their willies. Against my will.

I don't like little man, but I do quite like little one.

FimboGotAxedButWishesFabioWell · 09/10/2008 13:09

I am going to get this all out now, I dislike the following:-

Little man (or in Norfolk they say "my man")
Little un
Anything with sexy in it referring to a child.

My dh calls ds "mate" which is kind of a long the same lines, annoys my mother no end.

mrsruffallo · 09/10/2008 13:14

Not worth getting upset about is it?

CicatrickOrTreat · 09/10/2008 13:15

I call DS wee man, if I'd had a girl it would be wee wifie no doubt or quinie.

I've now started calling him toddlebonny, and I haven't heard that since people used it to me!

nooOOOoonki · 09/10/2008 13:42

YABU little man is sweet.

but Sexy ? - never heard and never want to,

ponderingthoughts - the boy is horrendous!

misshardbroom · 09/10/2008 13:45

In parts of Belfast 'My boy' is my partner, my 'wee boy' is my son.

mammyofET · 09/10/2008 16:36

'Little man' is cute.

DH uses the 'the bairn' (as in how was the bairn today?), or 'my little lad / laddie' which I find cute tbh although I am not a geordie and would never use these terms naturally myself. The term 'little lass' is also used a lot in the north east. I quite like that too.

We do use our DS's name from time to time as well though'

I grew up in Norfolk, and a few of my mother's friends would always refer to me as 'my woman' (as in 'are you alright, my woman?') I quite like it, and it makes me feel nostalgic. Boys, in turn, were 'my man'.

I have a friend (who lives in Norfolk) who often refers to his son as 'the boy' and it makes me smile, as it sounds kind of Dickensian when he says it.
