Had to walk hrough them to ge to the tights and they just really irritated me.
I know it's irrational..
is it those stripey cardies with big buttons that 50 yr olds wear because they think it makes them seem 30.
Or the stiched on bits like flowers and embroidered bits all over the place.
Or the waterfall cardies is nasty colours that think they're like jigsaw ten years ago
Or too much brown...
Or tring to make everytig special by saying it's italian or Roma or something when really it's hite...
didn't really have a good look honestly.....

Some of the autograph stuff is nice. The Autograph Weekend stuff seems to be doing what Per Una was aiming for originally.

brightongirldownunder · 06/10/2008 13:51

Haha "sea of brown at pu"
I was given one of the vile pink fluffy dressing downs by DH's father two christmases ago. The only time I wore it was when I gave birth as it was the only warm thing to fit me when I was rushed to hospital. Funnily enough it then disappeared....

swampster · 06/10/2008 13:52

Peruna in Finnish means potato. Need I say more?

angrypixie · 06/10/2008 13:52

In the depths of PNI after DC2 I bought a per una cardi; pink with enormous buttons. Knew I was getting better when I looked in the mirror one morning and realised it was vile

NomDePlume · 06/10/2008 13:52

Per Una stuff looks like it was made out of scraps from the rag bag

mummy5bellies · 06/10/2008 13:53

brilliant thread I thought I was alone!

plumandolive · 06/10/2008 13:56

The worst things are the sewn on knitted flowers in contrasting colours and the assymetrical flouncy skirts with raggy orphan child bits in orphany Oliver Twist checks

OP posts:
plumandolive · 06/10/2008 13:57

and raggy romantic lacy bits showing underneath and fraying on the edges

I think their archetypal customer is of course... Granny Murray!

Megglevache · 06/10/2008 14:00

Mummy I am surprised PerUna desn't have it's own slot in Topics TBH.

stroppyknickers · 06/10/2008 14:01

I think it is aimed at people who may once have been hippies and are now trying to smarten up a bit? Arty types (or those who would like to be arty?) Obv they have got it totally wrong and it's people trying to look a bit boho. On a different note althogether, can I buy DMs again now they are in fashion? Am 35 and mum of four...

I do like the slippers, pyjamas and dressing gown type per una stuff though. I fight it but I can't help it.

I have a per una bag also.

But that's it. I promise.

pagwatch · 06/10/2008 14:03

I am always reminded when I walk through it of my DD making chritmascards

'now sweetie - I think that is just perfect and bright and twinkly'

'oh no mummy - it needs more sparkles and a flower up there and then if I could stick some fur bits on there and..and..'

I think angrypixie is on to something. Per una as a metal/emotional well-being check.

Bridie3 · 06/10/2008 14:03

I don't think it's particularly Italian in style, either, despite all the hype. I've never seen Italian women looking so flouncy.

fishie · 06/10/2008 14:04

it is aimed at people who have no idea what suits them. they think that all the fripperies and whatnots are exciting and make them look like that girl eating a flake in a field. really they look like a halfwit.

plumandolive · 06/10/2008 14:05

stroppy I don't think it's arty atall- I think it's meant to be smart and European...with a quirky little special twist....euk

snowleopard I am a Murray and I take offence at that.

Or I would do if I didnt loathe the crap with a passion.

angrypixie · 06/10/2008 14:07

Pagwatch. If you fear your friend is suffering from PNI or other forms of depression take for a walk through M&S . At the slightest sign of a double take (or God Forbid holding it up against herself) rush to GP for medication.

TigerFeet · 06/10/2008 14:07

When it first came out it was M&S trying to be trendy wasn't it? I quite liked some stuff in there then. Now, it's full of stuff that my Mum would wear and even if I find teh odd garment that's actually palatable I will nto buy it because I refuse to buy anything that my Mum would wear. (I do realise that the older I get the harder it is not to turn into my Mum)

docket · 06/10/2008 14:08

I love Per Una, it makes me howl with laughter everytime I go into M&S. What on earth are they thinking of?

Megglevache · 06/10/2008 14:09

Fio yes I know what you mean. it is sprawling now isn't it.

Have you been to the Deli caf thing the other side? It's very nice, the older ladies love shouty babies in there. I shoudl know

fullmoonfiend · 06/10/2008 14:09

I'll have you know that I am an ex-hippy and an arty type and I do NOT wear Per Una! Tis the sort of thing my mum buys for me though...(Oh it's just like that skirt you wore when you were 18 dear''. Yes but I am 38 now mother)

An article in the Guardian on Saturday described Per Una as 'something Stevie Nicks might die in'.

Sums it up brilliantly to me
