Had to walk hrough them to ge to the tights and they just really irritated me.
I know it's irrational..
is it those stripey cardies with big buttons that 50 yr olds wear because they think it makes them seem 30.
Or the stiched on bits like flowers and embroidered bits all over the place.
Or the waterfall cardies is nasty colours that think they're like jigsaw ten years ago
Or too much brown...
Or tring to make everytig special by saying it's italian or Roma or something when really it's hite...
didn't really have a good look honestly.....

My mil wears some of it and she is 75.

plumandolive · 06/10/2008 13:38

Fimbo- that skirt looks like a victorian melodrama street girl outfit type thing... actually a lot of their stuff is like that....

Always reminds me of a jumble sale. I think it was, briefly, vaguely trendy. But those days have long gone. Yet I would like to like it... I'm qute an M&S sort of person at heart.

And whilst we're on the subject... what about the sh*te that they're selling in childrenswear these days? Horrible - looks like a load of tat from a street market, but so expensive for what it is.

SorenLorensen · 06/10/2008 13:39

Mmm, gorge...

Szyslak · 06/10/2008 13:39

It's the same stuff every year. In maybe a different colour or with different buttons.

I bought some stuff when it first started but now evrything from per una is so obviously per una.

I am trying to wean my mum off it.

She has the stripey cardi with big buttons in every colour

NomDePlume · 06/10/2008 13:39

Too much patchwork, fringey finshing and stupid wonky hems.

SorenLorensen · 06/10/2008 13:40

Ye Gods...

Megglevache · 06/10/2008 13:41

I know but Jigsaw is scary to my mum. She does look brilliant in it although I do cringe when she drags takes me around the M&S supersized Per Una department.

I think she and fat pottery teachers older creative types look amazing in it personally.

(My mum is neither fat nor arty BTW)

NomDePlume · 06/10/2008 13:41

Although I did have a really nice leather handbag from the range a couple of years ago.

plumandolive · 06/10/2008 13:41

Scarletlily- agree- it's all high school musical crap... the little kids stuff went through a phase of being vaguely Monsoony once, but it's rubbish again.

TsarChasm · 06/10/2008 13:42

Lol I so agree especially about the stitched on faff (artfully frayed)

Per Una also has delisions of grandeur over the price too. I want to run about shouting 'It's just a chain store, it's M&S ffs! How can you justify £65 for a skirt?!'

brightongirldownunder · 06/10/2008 13:42

DON'T TALK TO ME ABOUT BODEN. Their frigging trousers make me look like I've got jodphur hips. There's me trying them on without looking in a mirror shouting "Yes! size 10 and there's space to eat a whole cake" then I look at my reflection and lord oh lord - all I see are hips.
I'm scarred I tell you.

Last time I was in the UK I swear I got friction burns from per una range in brighton - I just wanted to get to the food department.

pamelat · 06/10/2008 13:43

We have an M&S food place near our house and the only clothes that they stock are flippen Per Una.

I always think its a poor attempt at being hippy like?

BUT they do have some rather nice summer dresses (!) and I'm only 30.

Why can't the food outlet (near me!) just have a small selection of underwear, at least that might be useful.

annoyingdevil · 06/10/2008 13:43

and what's with the sea of pink fluffy dressing gowns and matching slippers that fill the shelves this time of year?

Is that what Per Una Woman wants for Christmas? (v, v annoying)

rookiemater · 06/10/2008 13:44

Per una stuff is vile. A few seasons ago I bought a truly hideous cardigan which has now been relegated to the charity bag.

Thing is about 5 years ago I don't remember it being so bad, its so hideous now that it is a pastiche of its former self. I imagine generously sized ladies in their 50s wearing it on a cruise.

I like some of the Autograph stuff.

plumandolive · 06/10/2008 13:45

The summer dresses are all very prissy "floral" though aren't they? Which is nice in small doses, but not all the time.
I like fat Face summer dresses- really good quality material, and just edgy enough not to be too girly caught in the bike spokes.....

TsarChasm · 06/10/2008 13:46

Ah yes the cardis with the big buttons. I look like Arietty form the borrowers in those.

Fimbo · 06/10/2008 13:46

Oh yes definately cruise wear for the over 50's on the hunt for a maaaannn.

Yes- Autograph things are quite classic grown up and well cut, good colours and good materials.
I really really hate all that sea of BROWN at PU- the sophisticated choice for those who don't wear black. Yuk.

OP posts:
cupsoftea · 06/10/2008 13:48

How come it's so pricey?

plumandolive · 06/10/2008 13:49

Because they're trying to palm it off as "designer"ecause they splash Italian all over it.

OP posts:
snowleopard · 06/10/2008 13:49

I think the reason it's so infuriating is it's almost right. They start off with a basically nice cardie design or dress, often a nice colour and fabric. Then they take into their heads to involve a horrible droopy collar, or bizarre tartan edging, or to tie dye it, or use too many panels etc etc. If someone would just sit them down and explain to them how less is more, it could be similar to jigsaw or monsoon stuff... but they always ruin it.

Fimbo · 06/10/2008 13:50

Limited collection sometimes has nice bits and pieces too

plumandolive · 06/10/2008 13:51

snowlepard- you speak a lot of truth there... that is why it's so annoying!
