I probably am, but I was judging one such moron flicking through the 'naked'/'lesbian'/'soap star porn shot' or whatever the main focus of whichever magazine it was and I felt like saying why not buy Razzle and be a bit more upfront about it all.

Also in the free magazine I got with heat was a two page article on how to give a good Blow-job and and job, written by a man!!!! for a women's magazine!!!! how very dare they

Personally, although most 'women's' mags don't have the same level of male nudity in them, they do spend a lot of time putting men down or telling women how to behave like a stereotype.

misdee · 02/10/2008 14:26

dittany, i dont read those glossy women mags. as i really dont want to read about the latestceleb diet or how to acheive posh's latest look.

i read a really interesting piece in fhm or maxim recently about a diving who went to untold depths to bring back the body of another diver who had died years before, and almost lost his own life in the process. was very moving and a lot better than stuff i've read in womens glossy's/

policywonk · 02/10/2008 14:26

Well, I think they're twats because they think that it's OK to consume soft porn in their lunch hour. I think people who consume this crap are idiots. I have zero respect for any man who pays money to keep any aspect of the porn industry going.

misdee · 02/10/2008 14:27

i generally look at the womens glossys in hospital and docs waiting rooms btw. i spend far too long there really.

IfYouDidntLaughYoudCry · 02/10/2008 14:27

Dittany - I'm not saying that some men don't treat women as sex objects. What I'm saying is that not one of the men I have known, be it work colleagues, friends, boyfriends, has in real life, treated a woman like shit as a result of reading a magazine. Some of the most laddish men I know adore their girlfriends and are completely lovely. Like I said, maybe I'm just lucky with the people I've met.

Fatbob · 02/10/2008 14:28

I download all my porn for free, i never pay

misdee · 02/10/2008 14:31

whats that daft womens mag ad with the shopkeeper? i grrr at that every time. i have no interest in celebs. its daft.

i know loads of men who read lad mags. not one treat women as sex object. and dh certainly doesnt beat off over the pics in them.

Fatbob · 02/10/2008 14:32

Thats the heat advert...

IfYouDidntLaughYoudCry · 02/10/2008 14:33

I think the only women's mag I've read that contained anything remotely interesting was Marie Claire.

And I do like the real-life 'trashy' ones. And I sometimes read celeb mags. And I can see the flaws in all of these mags. I find the women's mags a more subtle kind of evil though.

Fatbob · 02/10/2008 14:34

I once read, Chat or something like that, with a 3 page story about some guy who was sleeping with his daughter and going to have a baby or something.. nice

misdee · 02/10/2008 14:36

i'm aroused now reading that... we men are so simple

IfYouDidntLaughYoudCry · 02/10/2008 14:38

Misdee - that's what I mean too.

Women's mags somehow manage to make their own audience feel inadequate with some of the issues they waffle on about. And a lot of women absolutely lap it up. I bet a lot more women have developed eating disorders due to body images etc. they see portrayed then men have turned it to sex pests/women haters etc due to lads mags.

Twelvelegs · 02/10/2008 14:40

But using the lowest impulse fatbob, is just plain lazy.

Dittany - I think most male readers have the intelligence/decency/whatever to be able to distinguish between images in a magazine and women in real life. Why shouldn't a man enjoy seeing an attractive woman posing in bra and knickers? It doesn't necessarily have any impact on men in RL? It's the women that are choosing to pose, no-one is forcing them. Why are we attacking the readers?

Men will always enjoy seeing women in that way, I think it's harmless. I just think your opinion would genuinely bother some of the truely nice men I know who have purchased such material but, shock horror, managed to be perfectly loving, faithful and good boyfriends/people/partners.

Why was the porn star being degraded?

actually quite of a lot of those ads were gorgeous hot male models.

IfYouDidntLaughYoudCry · 02/10/2008 14:50

Dittany - I fail to see why I'm kidding myself.

I am just relating my own experiences of people I've known, and myself of course. I find that men tend to read something and then it's done. The magazine goes in the bin, they might comment on an attractive woman, read a few jokes, talk about the footie, then they go back to whatever they were doing.

Women tend to talk about that dress they've seen in Closer that they have to have to impress such and such a bloke and it looked so nice on Kelly Brook and I think I'll skip carbs for a week because that's what Corrie actress does etc etc. Then they get told what hairstyle they should wear, what colour lipstick is 'in' and it just goes on.

I really don't want to get into a row with you, Dittany, I genuinely think women let it affect them more than men. Most men don't care if you're belly wobbles or your boobs are tiny - it's the women that stress about it because we see the airbrushed pictures and we think we have to look like it.
