I probably am, but I was judging one such moron flicking through the 'naked'/'lesbian'/'soap star porn shot' or whatever the main focus of whichever magazine it was and I felt like saying why not buy Razzle and be a bit more upfront about it all.

I've complained about eye level Zoo etc several times, YANBU

IfYouDidntLaughYoudCry · 02/10/2008 13:49

I understand that the lads mags can be inappropriately displayed in shops but I don't undertand why someone is automatically a twat for reading one? Bit confused.

Fatbob · 02/10/2008 13:50

yeah i dont get that bit either.. lol

mytetherisending · 02/10/2008 13:54

Well my DH bought it since we have been together, not for the porn though because there is hardly any in them. LOL. As far as I have noticed he is pretty much without any faults (as humans go)so yes YABU- my DH is certainly not a twat!!

combustiblelemon · 02/10/2008 13:55

I loathe them because they are porn without the honesty. I really hate the way that it has become the accepted thing for young female actresses or tv presenters to pose for soft porn style pictures for these magazines. It gives the objectification of women a legitimate gloss.

Fatbob · 02/10/2008 13:55

i might start a women that buy heat are bitches thread or something.

wonder how that would go down... lol

What combustible said - I think all porn is repulsive, but lad-mags are repulsive and dishonest, IMO.

Fatbob · 02/10/2008 14:04

what do you mean where did i come from? lol

me and the OH have a large hate for these books, so we took a photo, i dont normal shop in ASDA by the way, im more a Sainsburys guy

IfYouDidntLaughYoudCry · 02/10/2008 14:04

But men pose in the women's mags too. Plus, the women have chosen to be photographed. I don't know any man who has turned into a misogynist/sex pest/whatever purely because he reads such mags.

Mytether....same here. My DP has bought it in the past and is one of the most respectful people I know.

Fair enough if people don't like it but to label anyone a twat based on one tiny snapshot of their life is a but unreasonable.

Like I said, I understand when it comes to being at eye level in shops but apart from that, I just don't see what the problem is. We're not defined by our chosen reading material.

Fatbob - you're so judgmental

IfYouDidntLaughYoudCry · 02/10/2008 14:05

LOL at Fio.

misdee · 02/10/2008 14:06

fhm has good jokes and funny bits in it.

dh gets fhm and maxim. one of them covers a 'whats in your food' each month. makes me [boak] everytime. so faqr i wont touch kfc, or mr kiplings bakewell tarts ever again. (he has only been getting it two months. was a special 3 for £3 deal or soemthing)

I agree that the women's mags are guilty of this, dittany. Maybe it's just me, but I don't see how the lads mags have an effect on any man that I've met. They do treat women like sex objects, yes, but that doesn't mean that men see women as sex objects because of the mags.

If anyone is guilty, surely it's the women that pose in them then?

misdee · 02/10/2008 14:14

lads mags arent just full of degrading content.

sorry, but they arent. they are full of stuff that men like. inc fashion (thought i laugh at some of it), sport, tv guide in one of them (nuts or zoo? the weekly/fortnightly one?).

yes they have some women posing in their skimpies or topless. but then a lot of womens mags i have seen have similar posing by men.

Fatbob · 02/10/2008 14:15

sex sells, to men and women, just because there is some girl in a bra on the front that does not mean every page is the same?

smeeinit · 02/10/2008 14:16

i really dont see the problem with men buying and reading these mags?
i certainly dont think it automaticaly makes you a twat for reading them
my ds(18) reads them and my exh used to read them too....ok exh is a twat for other reasons but certainly dont think ds is!!
i never had a problem with it because thats just what men do!....not all men obviously!

Tortington · 02/10/2008 14:17

dittany thats becuase we arn't men and do not on the whole react the same to the same stimuli

if there was a market for naked straight men for the voyeur of women - it would have already been explaoited

me work differently - thats why there are only naked men in the same dodgy poses as the women - in gay mags.

strip clubs - for men its seedy semi hard on - massage round the back - dont tell the wife

for women its buff men showing muscles - getting lushed, laugh with mates - laghing at sandra being pulled on stage - oooh she wont get that baby oil out of that top - what will gary say?

IfYouDidntLaughYoudCry · 02/10/2008 14:17

Misdee - I agree. They contain what a lot of young men want to read about. And if soap stars etc. are prepared to pose in skimpies and appear in the mags, then it doesn't make someone a twat for enjoying looking at it!

The original post was asking if men who buy said mags are twats and referred to someone as a 'moron' because they were looking at it. So in answer to that specific question, YABU

I am finding it the subsequent issues discussed very interesting, though.
