I am at work in the bookshop at the moment and we have just had a delivery of an auto-biography of JADE GOODY ffs, complete with fears about losing her hair etc. It seems to have been ghostwritten by some hack from Heat magazine, but even so, wouldn't you want to spend time quietly with your family and concentrate on getting well after a cancer diagnosis? All the sleb mags are full of her "exclusive" interviews and pics though, and it seems like one huge money-making opportunity. What is this - well you've seen my kebab, now pay to read about my internal organs ???? I think it's in very poor taste, AIBU?

i think its very sad in all senses of word.but if it helps her then so be it.

mayorquimby · 16/09/2008 12:50

well in fairness what would you expect from such a despicable human being?

i think the real sad thing is the fac t that so many people will actually buy this book and take an interest in it as though she is a relevant spokesperson of this generation.

CrushWithEyeliner · 16/09/2008 12:52

No - I am not sure what she is up to at the moment with all these magazine deals and press appearances to be honest. But she is hardly the type to reflect quietly on what is happening to her is she?

Upwind · 16/09/2008 12:55

I find it really depressing that misery memoirs are always on the bestseller lists

Sadly that is the way a lot of z listers live their lives. Encouraged by the people who buy that tosh and the PR people who make money out of them. These days it seems to be the fashion to share everything about yourself with everyone. Look at the popularity of facebook, everyone has the opportunity to become a mini celebrity!

Guadalupe · 16/09/2008 12:58

That's what I thought, Riven, didn't she only get the diagnosis a couple of weeks ago? Unless the book was already being written and they added that part.

ForeverOptimistic · 16/09/2008 12:59

Agree upwind. It was my birthday recently and dh popped into woolies in his lunch hour to buy me a book but came out empty handed as he said that the top 20 was just full of peoples memoirs about the abuse they had suffered. Well that was his excuse anyway...

2shoes · 16/09/2008 13:01

sadly people will buy the book.

nickytwotimes · 16/09/2008 13:02

I am also disgusted, but not at all surprised. Other posters are right though - this shit sells like hot cakes, so someone must be reading it. Or using it to light fires or somehting.

CoteDAzur · 16/09/2008 13:05

She has no dignity.

Nagapie · 16/09/2008 13:05

I think it is called rubber necking .... those that drive slowly past an accident to see what happened...

The sad thing is that her story adds so little to the whole C tragedy ...

zazen · 16/09/2008 13:06

Blimey that was quick. The celebrity machine needs fodder I suppose.

But Jade is a single mum and she has had cancer and a hysterectomy - I suppose she wants to provide for her two little boys, in case she dies of it.

Good luck to her I say. I hope she makes a full recovery - shame about her dream for having a little girl though... they're fabulous fun

bloomingfedup · 16/09/2008 13:06

I think if it was me I would want to spen dmy time fighting the cancer and witgh my children. But, people will buy it and the cash cow is being milked!

wotulookinat · 16/09/2008 13:07

I think she was 'writing' the book before she found out she was ill.
I've always like Jade but I can understand why people don't.
I feel sorry for her though, going through what she is going through at such a young age.

pigleto · 16/09/2008 13:08

YABU

I've got cancer myself, and if I could make a few extra bucks by moaning about it to people other than my very patient dh then I would definately do it. As it is I have to face the fact that I will probably be leaving my family very badly off, I have already lost six months pay. Any extra cash would be very welcome.

Why should Jade be a model of morals? She is famous for being a rather dense working class girl, there is nothing particularly despicable about that. If people buy the tosh she and her parasites put out then more fool them.

wotulookinat · 16/09/2008 13:09

A very good pont, pigleto, about the money.

wotulookinat · 16/09/2008 13:09

pont? pont? I mean point

compo · 16/09/2008 13:10

doesn't she had tonnes of money already though?

wotulookinat · 16/09/2008 13:11

Not according to the programme on TV about her last night.

bloomingfedup · 16/09/2008 13:13

Pigleto

I'm sorry to hear that.

soopermum1 · 16/09/2008 13:13

She's got cancer, looking at a long recovery time or the prospect of dying. I presume she is making what money she can in the only way she knows how, while she is able to, to support herself and her family. i don't begrudge her that at all, and if you don't like it, don't buy the book or the magazines, you have a choice.

more · 16/09/2008 13:13

That is her job though.

schneebly · 16/09/2008 13:13

Let's face it she doesn't come across as the sharpest tool and I am quite sure her 'people' are telling her that it is her duty to share her story to "help others who may be suffering" so that they can get their cut. And I agree with pigleto that if she can make extra cash to suport her boys in the future should the worst happen then why shoudln't she.

hecate · 16/09/2008 13:16

I dunno, can't care about it tbh. I won't be buying it, but I am sure there will be enough people who will, and it'll make her some money - cos at the end of the day, that's all she's aiming for with it - make some money. And what's wrong with that? We've all got to earn.
