To BLW my dd in restaurants without comments or disaproving looks?

I have always done a mixture of spoon feeding and BLW.
When me and dp go out with dd (10 months)to a restaurant, we make sure we order something she can eat as well.

Then we just put it on her highchair tray and let her get on with it.

So if we go to the local carvery, we give dd lots of different vegtables, yesterday we went to a Tapas restaurant and she tried a little bit of what we had (as long as it was suitable). She had fun and tried new and different flavours.

But other people seem to have a problem with feeding her like this, and along with the nasty looks I get, people also make snide comments like 'shouldn't she have a bowl', 'can't she eat from a spoon?'.

This makes me feel like a bad parent, so am I being unreasnable in feeding her like this?

It's their lack of manners, not yours.

EelCod · 25/08/2008 14:35

Jackstini · 25/08/2008 14:35

Oops - crossed posts!
Just ask them how much they know about the benefits of BLW.... then wait for the tumbleweed and a hasty retreat

OneBoyOneGirl · 25/08/2008 14:35

Not at all, just ignore the other people. I am learning, slowly, not to give a toss and that i know best for my kids.

hughjarssss · 25/08/2008 14:36

Why would I lie Cod

OP posts:
mumblechum · 25/08/2008 14:37

Oh, is that what BLW is, putting stuff on a tray instead of in a bowl with a spoon?

Anyway, why would anyone give a shit as long as the food isn't being thrown around?

EelCod · 25/08/2008 14:37

lol
why cant they haev a bowl fgs

Habbibu · 25/08/2008 14:38

How does it make you feel like a bad parent? If she was choking and you ignored her, that would be bad parenting. The rest is all pox. Just smile beatifically at them and invite them to marvel at her hand-eye co-ordination as she splats them in the eye with pasta.

hughjarssss · 25/08/2008 14:39

If I gave her a bowl she would launch it, as I suspect most babies would.
If I was spoon feeding her I would hold the bowl
Hence the difference

OP posts:
EelCod · 25/08/2008 14:40

not always
i always gave mine bowls
it seems i blw
before the masses turned it into somekind of movement to feel smug about

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 25/08/2008 14:44

sorry, but I don't know what BLW is - enlighten me !

EelCod · 25/08/2008 14:45

no but i htink if peopel say that think "hey ho what tossers"
and move on

LadyMuck · 25/08/2008 14:46

Some people will just give nasty looks to babies in restaurants full-stop especially if they are there in the evening. Nothing to do with how baby is fed. But I am astounded that other restaurant guests would come up and ask whether or not she should have a bowl and/or spoon. Nothing to do with BLW - it is just rude.
OTOH if you were having soup, then yes, I could see that that would cause comments.

Habbibu · 25/08/2008 14:46

Oh Cod, you trendsetter, you.

bergentulip · 25/08/2008 14:47

Ignore.

Either that, or with a direct question, just give a very wordy long, and very boring, answer about why BLW is good for a baby etc etc etc....

But mostly, just learn not to give a sh*t.

MaryAnnSingleton · 25/08/2008 14:47

WHAT IS BLW

EelCod · 25/08/2008 14:47

rofl at soup
