To be annoyed that my daughter was given cake and sweets in a party bag?

Last week dd went to a party and when she came home she had the usual party bag. However, on close inspection i noticed that a piece of cake and some sweets had also been put in it.

I of course removed the offending items, but i am annoyed that the host of the party gave them to her in the first place. I always give strict instructions that she is not allowed any kind of junk food when going to parties.

Ibu?

Dear lord I hope this is a wind-up!! My mum wouldn't let us have sweets or biscuits when we were kids... she comes from a family of dentists and lived in fear of terrible things happening to our teeth. I still have never needed a filling but struggle with my weight and have binge eating disorder. If I see sweet stuff I have to eat the whole lot - my self moderation is non-existant.

And this is a result of an over-strict mum who did let us eat cake at parties. Imagine what will happen to this poor child!?

Motherinferior - why does that make you angry?

I wasn't saying that journalists are abnormal. I know a lot of journalists who are upfront about specific articles and asking for help. But there are, as I'm sure you've met, others who prefer to pass off interesting opinions and witty comments as their own without reference to sources and I wondered if that's what 'troll' meant - as in 'trolling for information'.

Might show my ignorance of internet jargon but can't imagine why it was so infuriating.

PoorOldEnid · 13/08/2008 17:07

a clip round the ear and a potato would be better I agree

MrsBates · 13/08/2008 17:08

Just read littlelapin - thanks. That's exactly the sort of thing I meant.

Oh Mi god. Gravel, that's fantastic. Nuclear baby ensitein. Hash brownies for tweens and teens. Yippeee. Everything sorted for the future and everything cheap given dp is a drugs dealer and general bad type. Thinking bout it thought, hash brownies could cause munchie obesity style issues.

Just one (semi) serious word from a committed MN'er hack (aka journo. Personally I wouldn't abuse something I consider to be home for work purposes without declaring, but the internet with all that freedom of speech and access to everything for all, well it's open to abuse isn't it? Personally I wouldn't have it any other way. At least some of them bother to poll opinion. Thast counts for research ina world where there are no resources and editors, broadcasters and proprietors expect everything done for nothing and via the internet to boot.

Chippy? Me?

bumbling · 13/08/2008 19:24

LOL at Trolling for information... Trawling perhaps?!

surprise · 13/08/2008 19:42

Clearly a troll. I'd say it was probably that bloke who used to hang around and make provocative comments every so often, just to get a bit of attention. Sad git.

motherinferior · 13/08/2008 20:30

I just get a bit fed up with the jibes that all journalists are filthy hacks who only want to exploit you and take pictures of you in your pants.

Acinonyx · 13/08/2008 20:36

Well that makes me feel better - I forgot to put the cake in the party bags...

Reginaphilangy · 13/08/2008 20:38

Assuming you're for real - a few sweeties and a bit of cake once in a blue moon will not make your child obese, whether obesity runs in the family or not.

It takes more than a couple of haribo on party days. As long as your dd's general diet is good, there's no problem.

So yes, YABU.

expatinscotland · 13/08/2008 20:39

What a lame troll attempt.

MrsBates · 13/08/2008 21:27

No I meant trolling - as in fishing with a baited line. Trawling is a less targeted attempt.

Motherinferior - wasn't intended as a jibe I promise you. And no one has wanted to take pictures of me in my pants for many a long year. I do have several journo friends and would like to keep them.

dilemma - what sort of party did you think you were going to have?

colacubes · 13/08/2008 21:45

P A R T Y means what it says, i.e. a good time, good food, treats and lots of fun, they happen once in a while, a celebration.

I think you may have confused the word party with P R I S O N, which is no fun at all. Hence your party pooper behaviour! Shame on you.

And the tampons were for what sort of party? No plain old swingers' party, that's for sure...

however, my little princess will be sending her friends home with tiffany dimamonds and some freshly expresed breastmilk in thier party bags

sweets and cake, what a shocking thing to give children!

Monkies
(I love these troll threads)

Clary · 14/08/2008 00:48

MI, yes indeed, sadly it's a long while since I took a pic of anyone in their pants

Or maybe

TinySocks · 14/08/2008 07:06

That is outrageous! Sweets in a party bag.
Surely a piece of toast with marmite and a toothbrush would have been more appropriate.
