To be annoyed that my daughter was given cake and sweets in a party bag?

Last week dd went to a party and when she came home she had the usual party bag. However, on close inspection i noticed that a piece of cake and some sweets had also been put in it.

I of course removed the offending items, but i am annoyed that the host of the party gave them to her in the first place. I always give strict instructions that she is not allowed any kind of junk food when going to parties.

Ibu?

I am not a troll just a lurker.

Both mine and dh family are prone to obesity and there is a history of heart problems predominantly brought on by the obesity. So I don't see what's wrong with preventing it before it starts.

plastic?

TheArmadillo · 13/08/2008 13:35

take them off her then. It's your problem and your job to police it not anyone elses.

PinkChick · 13/08/2008 13:36

at the risk of looking like a knob if this is a troll..obesity is caused by people eating too much of the wrong thing, your child IS allowed treats, cake and couple of sweets in party bag wont lead to a life of obesity, as long as you provide healthy meals and set a good example theyll be fine..oh and being overweight myself, theres no such thing as "prone to obesity"..were fat b'cos we eat too much of the wrong things!

HuwEdwards · 13/08/2008 13:37

YANBU, I would ask the epolice to arrest the offending parents.

poshtottie · 13/08/2008 13:39

If your dd only has sweets now and again and gets plenty of exercise she won't become obese. Children that are deprived of treats such as sweets will only want them more.

Sidge · 13/08/2008 13:40

Get a grip. What did you expect to find in a party bag?

If you don't want her to eat sweets and cakes don't let her go to parties.

And unless she has 3 meals a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks of the year at birthday parties the odd bit of sponge cake isn't going to cause her heart problems and obesity.

(And I have a child that really can't eat sweets and cake for medical reasons, but can't get my knickers in a knot over party bags - if it has sweets in it I take them out. My child's diet is my responsibility, not a party host's)

Oblomov · 13/08/2008 13:40

Troll ?
No more parties for you/your dd.
what a bloody killjoy you are.

biglips · 13/08/2008 13:40

but thats what a party is all about...sweets and cakes!

wasabipeanut · 13/08/2008 13:40

I type with a heavy heart because I still get the feeling I'm being had, but surely if you have obesity issues in the family the last thing you should be doing is freaking out over a couple of sweeties in a party bag.

You will end up turning your kid into a neurotic that stuff its face with cakes and sweets the minute you turn your back.

How can you be naturally prone to obesity? Obesity is caused by over eating cakes.
There's nothing wrong with the odd cake now and then.

I would only complain if there was not any cake.

taliac · 13/08/2008 13:48

Lentils? Lolly sticks? You lot are too soft.

Mine get gravel in their party bags. And thats if they've behaved themselves.

Tortington · 13/08/2008 13:49

junk food in party bags is disgusting, i always make my own hemp cake and weed lollies

We recently went to a 3yo's party where there was NO birthday cake . I felt so sorry for DS1 missing out that we made some chocolate biscuits when we got home

Overmydeadbody · 13/08/2008 13:53

I prefer DS to have organic hash brownies myself custy.

wotulookinat · 13/08/2008 13:54

I think you should stop her from going to any parties ever. And stop her from eating. Just in case she gets fat. You never know.
