Thats it really. We were away for the first 2 weeks. She has had them for 3 weeks and only has this week to go then she has a week off which is costing me a fortune to cover and then she has 3 days one week and 2 days the next and they are back to school.

Told me this am that she cant cope with having them 11 hors a day in the hols its just too exhausting and she spent all weekend in bed feeling poorly with the stress of it all.

She gets paid full time wages all year rund and has lots of perks ( and I maen lots ).

She seemed to be suggesting that they could go to holiday club so she could get on with some studying during the day!!!

I was so gobsmacked I just left and acme to work!

To be honest Im not expecting to get any replies to this as you will I am sure be too shocked to type!

Your nanny is fucking useless.
Send her to a home for the Bewildered Inept.
Hire a real nanny.

woodenchair · 11/08/2008 13:32

shit for that much money she should he home schooling them.

Overmydeadbody · 11/08/2008 13:32

she's having a larf!

Two children of that age would be a peice of piss to look after. It's a job for heaven's sake, a lot of jobs are tiring!

JuneBugJen · 11/08/2008 13:32

yes, you are!

I think that if she wants them in holiday club then it should come out of her wages as she is not doing the hours she was employed to do. Unless you have an alternative I would consider getting rid.
What does she do when they are at school?

moondog · 11/08/2008 13:34

Wouldn't dare ilove. It's Sal's baby.
(It's Vietnamese stuffed fish btw.)

CarGirl · 11/08/2008 13:34

Is she taking them out, is she inviting their friends around? That is the kind of things that makes the holidays enjoyable and not wearing IME.

Weegle · 11/08/2008 13:35

that's mad. Surely she can cope with them? They are old enough that if she took them to a soft play centre she would be able to sit there with a coffee for 2 hours pretty much, honestly. What does she do during the term time because it strikes me she's got a very good deal and is trying it on.

Countingthegreyhairs · 11/08/2008 13:35

I'm sure you are a generous employer but I think an 11 hr day is quite long if they are not your dc

Do dc have scheduled activities during day (such as tennis lessons for example) where she can take a break for an hour?

Is she feeling isolated? how old is she?

Would an eight hour day be possible?

Megglevache · 11/08/2008 13:36

What is she studying for? She sounds a bit lazy.

Countingthegreyhairs · 11/08/2008 13:37

sorry - just seen the 20 yrs experience bit - she can't be that young!

pickie · 11/08/2008 13:38

is she trying it on as you mention she is being well paid/looked after?

We used to have a nanny whom we paid for 5 days but she only worked 4 and lots of other perks and she started taking the piss after a while (also lots of Monday/Fridays off sick)demanding this that and the other.

Sat down with her and mapped out what she got from us and what was the norm (she was paid £100 a day) and she agreed that she was being unreasonable. Since then I have kept it strictly employer/employee relationship, no more being nice.

They play on your guilty feelings for not being there and see how far they can push it IYSWIM

ilovemydog · 11/08/2008 13:38

Moondog, ooh, didn't realize it was political!

Fennel · 11/08/2008 13:39

That's ridiculous, are you sure she's actually a nanny?

I often look after 5 under 9s for the day, I used to look after 4 or 5 tiny children a lot. Yes it's tiring, but really it's not that impossible. And I would never say I was a real childcare-loving type. While a nanny should be.

BBBee · 11/08/2008 13:39

she is crap

that is crap

she is not cut out for the job

i am loooking after a 6yr old and 9yr old during school holidays and just piss abput on here and doing bits and bobs - more relaxing that my job i can tell you!

KatieDD · 11/08/2008 13:40

I'm not surprised at all I found out last year my nanny did put them in the local holiday club to have a coffee and catch her breath.

2 children!!!! I was thinking it must be at least 4 with some under threes chucked in! YANBU - 11 hours is a long day - but that's the world of nannying. Tbh - I would ditch her and get a housekeeper on the understanding that they 'baby sit' in the hols. What on earth does she do all day when your children are at school?

JT · 11/08/2008 13:42

aren't you taking a week off with them?

JudgeNutmeg · 11/08/2008 13:43

Goodness me, how hard can it be? there's no tantrums, naps or nappies involved?!!? Get her to write a list of planned activities for the week like:

Monday: Swimming. Cookery. Library. Decide on a weekly project. (Dragons, life in China, Olympics etc.)

Tuesday: Start project from library books. Do messy craft. get children to mop floors and wipe down doors (Inexplicably fun for children). Look on internet together for info on project.

Weds: Go to big park on the bus. Have picnic. Stage Olympics. Go home. Make medals. Build Olympic village in front room with sheets and chairs.

Thurs: Go swimming again or bike ride. Make huge poster on project. Go to cinema and eat sweets. Do Olympic style relay race on way home. Hop-skip-jump particularly good.

Friday: Organise Computer time and help make powerpoint or word doc on project. Email to mum at work. Kids make lunch. Competitive Olympic style assault course through garden. Invite friends for afternoon. Time them on course and award prizes.

£300 my arse.

CountessDracula · 11/08/2008 13:45

Sounds as if she isn't up to the summer aspects of her job.

How has she managed in the past during long breaks - ie, Easter and Christmas break?

What sorts of things does she do with them during the day?

Megglevache · 11/08/2008 13:48

JudgeNutmeg.

What are you doing for the rest of the hols?
