...to be asked if baby was planned by midwife

to be irritated by the midwife asking at booking-in appointment if the baby was planned.
Surely it has no relevance and is none of her business. Or..it is a standard question and I am being unreasonable?

how many dc do you have, Sparkle?

MrsTittleMouse · 07/08/2008 17:17

I was asked, but I didn't realise that it was a standard question - I thought that it was related to the dreadful time that I'd had before. I didn't mind anyway, except that I said "no" and DH said "yes". DD2 was conceived with fertility treatment, so of course DH was right, but it all happened so fast that I felt a bit in shock.

My hospital had the dot system too, but they allowed men to use the women's toilets during the antenatal classes, so it was completely useless. DH and I have organised things so that I can be alone with the CMW sometimes, so that they know that I'm not being chaperoned for "dodgy" reasons (just for DD1-management reasons ), but the CMW still hasn't asked me about domestic abuse, which has surprised me, as I thought that it was a standard box to be ticked off.

Elasticwoman - I have 4 DC with no 5 due in Oct

Elasticwoman · 08/08/2008 17:21

Sparkles, my cousin had 4 children under 5 at one stage, and many people including R C relatives, passed comment. About 5 years later she had #5 which was something of a surprise. Now they are all grown up and have partners of their own, so family get-togethers are v expensive for the parents.

ps Congratulations btw Sparkles.

I gulp when I think of the laundry involved though!

sparklesandnowinefor11weeks · 08/08/2008 17:36

Thanks

there's soooooooooo much washing all the time!! i was thinking we should all become naturalists

Elasticwoman · 08/08/2008 20:55

I think you mean naturist. A naturalist is what David Bellamy is.

I used to know some one who said "what's another baby? Just one more potato at dinner!" but it's a lot, lot more than that isn't it?

My friends two dc are VERY well spaced out. She was asked by the mw if they had the same dad. My friend bleated yes, but she was wishing she'd said "sorry, how come you need to know that?"

Bewilderbeast · 08/08/2008 21:05

I was under the impression that it was a standard question.
