OK, I am an NCT antenatal and I don't htink my classes are anything like those described!
I usually offer a course which consists of two days (6 hours each) plus one 2-hour evening.
The first day is about labour and birth. The rest of the course covers breastfeeding - led by a breastfeeding counsellor who is available for contact after you have had your baby (her outside-class work is voluntary like the rest of us, her teaching time is paid) - and the postnatal period.
Sometimes the first day spills over into the second but never by more than 1.5 hours.
I cover the following types of pain relief - breathing/relaxation/distraction, TENS, water, pethidine/diamorphine, gas and air, low-dose epidural, full epidural, spinal.
I cover c-section, forceps, ventouse, episiotomies as well as straightforward vaginal births.
Postnatal issues covered include relationships after the baby, family and friends, coping with crying, postnatal mental health for mums and dads, bathing, changing nappies, sleeping.
All these are covered because that's what parents ask for. Sometimes they also ask for introducing baby to pets, financial help, hypnotherapy, all sorts of things and I will all I can to ensure that I cover what they want to do.
I explain at the beginning of every course that because it's 2 days, I have come along with plan and certain equip for Day 1 but if there is something they want to know about that I haven't planeed for, I'll find a way to do it.
