In wanting DH to take an interest in naming our baby? Or if not just let ME get on with it??

EVERYTHING I suggest he says 'nah, don't like it, its tooo....'

girly
german
old- sounding
etc...

Arghhhh!!!

Which is fair enough if he were making suggestions HE likes, but no, if I ask him well what kind of names do you like he just says 'dunno'.

So if he 'doesn't know' then why can't I just choose??

Its pissing me off!

give him a baby name book, a pad and a pen

tell him if he doesn't list at least 5 that he likes, you're calling hte baby [insert girly old german name here] without his consent

DisenchantedPlusBump · 28/07/2008 20:57

I want to call her Lydia

I think that is a fantastic name, I really do. Do try to persuade him! I wanted that for this baby, but its a boy

DisenchantedPlusBump · 28/07/2008 20:59

He didn't like DS2s name either, but I just kept using it whilst he was in my tummy and so it stuck, he loves it now, (Dexter)

I might just keep on calling her Lydia till it sounds natural to him!

I've done that with this baby's name! I always get my own way

my mate just shook her head when I told her DH has agreed to the names I originally wanted

constancereader · 28/07/2008 21:03

You have to use Lydia, it is so lovely.

Cicatrice · 28/07/2008 21:03

I liked Lydia but DH blew it out of the water, it didn't get onto the top 5. I think it was because I made him watch Pride & Prejudice and Lydia is a bit of a PITA.

Go through a baby book. Do twenty each and then see if there are any crossovers and work from there.

If there are no crossovers you may have to make a name up.

DisenchantedPlusBump · 28/07/2008 21:05

I was thinking more this Lydia than pride and prejudice!

lol

Lydia is lovely. DH has an ex-girlfriend named Lydia, otherwise it would have been a top contender for us.

cafebistro · 28/07/2008 21:16

My dp did this when i was pregnant with ds. Everytime i brought up the subject of baby names he wouldnt discuss it or have any input apart from to say he didnt like names i suggested.
As a result my ds spent the first 12 days of his life without a name . We actually decided on his name in the car on the way to register him , he hasnt got a middle name as we couldnt agree on one fast enough!
Second time round we had a final decision on first and second names for both sexes weeks before the birth.

elmoandella · 28/07/2008 21:18

pmsl "german"

pgwithnumber3 · 28/07/2008 21:20

Ditto here with DH and names, I have to ask the Mumsnet Massive for any opinions as DH just doesn't have one!

He says Lydia sounds german!

Oh I had this.

Two of mine were registered on the last day of the six weeks after birth.

With both he chucked in another name on the journey.

halogen · 28/07/2008 22:41

Lydia is a brilliant name. Is it your first baby? I only ask because if it is then he'll probably let you call it anything you like after you've given birth...

And if it comforts you at all, my partner suggested Gillian and Karen (we have a Tabitha).

I really like Lydia, also love Leah, that was on my list of DS2 had been a DD.

CuckooClockWise · 28/07/2008 22:46

I like Lydia. Very elegant and feminine and pretty but not frilly.

It is also very 'steady' in the charts, it has hovered between 70 and 80 for the last 5 or 6 yrs, so it's nver going to skyrocket up the charts.

CuckooClockWise · 28/07/2008 22:49

I think Gillian is lovely. I would spell it with a J though, Jillian looks fresher. Karen will be boring for another 40 yrs though. Not horrible, but just .... blah.

DisenchantedPlusBump · 28/07/2008 22:51

Ewww Gillians awful
(MILs name)

I really like Lydia.

thisisyesterday · 28/07/2008 22:54

I had the same problem.

so, I sat down with name books and wrote lists of names I liked.

then I gave the lists to DP and made him pick the ones he liked too (ensuring that it will be one I love, see what I did there? hehe)
