In wanting DH to take an interest in naming our baby? Or if not just let ME get on with it??

EVERYTHING I suggest he says 'nah, don't like it, its tooo....'

girly
german
old- sounding
etc...

Arghhhh!!!

Which is fair enough if he were making suggestions HE likes, but no, if I ask him well what kind of names do you like he just says 'dunno'.

So if he 'doesn't know' then why can't I just choose??

Its pissing me off!

I hate naming children with my dh
i have sat in the waiting room of the registry office wanting to cry as he 'just discusses' spelling and alterations

thisisyesterday · 28/07/2008 23:00

well then tell him you'll get the baby registered yourself, with a name you choose.
sadly that means he won't get to be named on the birth certificate though, but hey

cadelaide · 28/07/2008 23:28

Oh littleducks, I thought I was alone. I think people don't believe me when I describe our "naming" debacle. I too have sat in registry offices embarrassingly close to tears.

frisbyrat · 28/07/2008 23:32

Try "Ingeborg". That's girly, old, and German.

He'll agree to anything to stop you using it!

Oh my dh did the 'too German' thing too. I wanted to call dd Claudia. She ended up being called Amelia which I think is in fact German but slipped under the German-detecting radar.

Cies · 29/07/2008 09:13

Argh! DPB, I know your pain!

I'm not even pregnant yet, but any conversation about baby names is met by DH with 2 suggestions - his sister's name, and my brother's name. Nothing else is acceptable. grrrrr.

Amethyst86 · 29/07/2008 09:14

Lydia is lovely.

My dh suggested Keith for a boy and Kathleen for a girl...........

gladders · 29/07/2008 10:42

my dh suggested samantha and rachel - think he'd been watching too much sitc and friends!!!!

lydia was also vetoed btw... not sure why

CuckooClockWiseGuy · 29/07/2008 11:52

I love Rachel, Samantha is yucky.

Fimbo · 29/07/2008 11:57

How long have you got to go?

I presume the baby is definately a girl?

DisenchantedPlusBump · 29/07/2008 12:00

I really wanted Imogen but was told it sounded like a Japanese Washing machine...an im..o...gen .Also liked Dominic apparently for hairdressers (good career i would have thought)I think this is a common problem apparently my father was just the same the only nmame he could think of for me was his fathers and I mas a girl (just for the avoidance of doubt!!!!)

scottishmum007 · 29/07/2008 12:49

that's a typical male attitude. they say no to every name you suggest, and then you feel like just choosing the name yourself. been there done that..

MrsTittleMouse · 29/07/2008 12:49

Whichever one of you who gives birth gets right of veto. That's my completely unbiased opinion anyway.

LadyThompson · 29/07/2008 12:51

Most men just aren't as into thinking about baby names as we are. They don't want to make lists. If pressed, they will gaze into the middle distance and say "[insert dull or unspeakable name here] is nice..." I told my DH that if he didn't look at my list or make one himself, he would be summarily dismissed from having any input. It worked but it was like pulling teeth.

scottishmum007 · 29/07/2008 12:56

men don't normally ahve the same enthusiasm for babies in general the way women do. not at the pregnancy stage anyway..

gagamama · 29/07/2008 14:43

I misread the topic title as "In wanting DH to take an interest in MAKING our baby? Or if not just let ME get on with it??" I am quite disappointed.

However, no, YANBU.
