..... well, your DH doesn't need to worry - DS is def. his!!!

Now, to be fair, DS does look like DH but would people have seriously questioned his parentage if he didn't????

This isn't just one random comment - at least half a dozen people have commented on it when I sent the photos out...

What sort of woman do they think I am????

SO, AIBU to be ticked off about it or is it just something people say????

I think, Scottishmummy,( tell me if i'm wrong here MmeLindt) that she was not suggesting that 'blackie' is acceptable to use. She was using it simply to demonstrate that defining someone by their facial features, using generalization and race as a descriptive is offensive to many no matter what term you use, that to call someone a "blackie' is always offensive, and to some, it is as offensive and racist as saying 'jewish nose'.

I cannot see anywhere in her posts, that she was saying that it was not racist or offensive or acceptale, quite the opposite. She was not actually using the term herself, to describe anyone.

I read it, as her using it as an example to those who'd not 'understood' or realised how the jewish nose comment could be seen as offensive. But using her example, which is indisputably a racist 'term' it really highlighted for those not understanding, how it could be read, and offending.

What a shame this thread ended up like this. It was a really lovely lighthearted thread, or so I thought, about people saying quite odd, and possible upsetting things to people about their childrens parentage, which I myself contributed to with the most enormous gaff that someone said to me... shame this all happened really.

Of course you don't need permission, but even with your explanation it was completely random. No one ever suggested that "blackie" wasn't racist and you did say " am surprised you not aware of negative connotations or how it could be used to be offensive/provocative" so obviously you had aimed it at someone, which is why I was wondering who the "you" was.
