..... well, your DH doesn't need to worry - DS is def. his!!!

Now, to be fair, DS does look like DH but would people have seriously questioned his parentage if he didn't????

This isn't just one random comment - at least half a dozen people have commented on it when I sent the photos out...

What sort of woman do they think I am????

SO, AIBU to be ticked off about it or is it just something people say????

And just before you all jump on the bandwagon, she said Jewish type nose. Not big nose. Say big nose again and I'll take you to the f**kin' cleaners.

Schneebly. Bandwagon.

BroccoliSpears · 19/07/2008 18:04

My mother said it when dd was born.
"WELL, we certainly know who the father is!!"

"... erm, there was never actually any doubt mum, but thanks."

lulumama · 19/07/2008 18:05

i am sorry, but what else does jewish type nose mean.. historically it has been a big or hooked nose

i do not wish to engage with you

you are a troll, posting to stir things up, which is really quite reprehensible IMO

schneebly · 19/07/2008 18:06

Magnificent 7 I don't really care whether you think I ahve just jumped on the bandwagon or not - the fact remains that youngbutnotdumb made and ill thought out comment and there is nothing wrong with point that out to her! Maybe she will think twice about how she words things in the future and prevent making comments that are offensive.

BroccoliSpears · 19/07/2008 18:06

Bugger. We've moved on to acronyms and casual racism. Sorry. As you were.

TheMagnificent7 · 19/07/2008 18:08

It's the emoticon thing. Really. It's hilarious. Would you feel better if you could make them a bit bigger ? Flash maybe. I could lend you a dictionary of you really wanted to get some WORDS to use, they're Grrrreeeeaaaaaaattttttt.

Calm down everyone. We were just discussing YCBS not being able to keep her knees together and having the milkman's baby when this all broke lose.

Ititi has saved you a place in the queue at the funnybone shop. If you don't wish to engage with me (you work in a call centre right?) then could I suggest going away and taking your petty prejudices elsewhere. Your racial stereotyping is offensive.

Apparently [grin}

Oblomov · 19/07/2008 18:15

This is getting nasty.
Calm down evryone.

Oblomov · 19/07/2008 18:16

Mag7, don't type anythning you mgiht later regret.

MmeLindt · 19/07/2008 18:16

I find the comment "A Jewish type nose" offensive. It is not excused by saying, "no offense".

Mag7
Are you for real? Why are you on MN, just to offend people? And you wonder that someone might think that you are a troll?

TheMagnificent7 · 19/07/2008 18:18

OK. Sorry. Speaking of big noses, did anyone see on the news that Judith from Life of Brian has become the Mayor of Prestatyn, where Life of Brian is still banned.

Apparently Brian looked like his Dad. Roman nose. He wasn't the Messiah though. He was...

TheMagnificent7 · 19/07/2008 18:23

MmeLindt. Yep. I was making comments and opinions like everyone else. Like I say though love, bandwagon.

I have a Jewish background. I though, as I very clearly said with words, that i thought the comments buy youngbut(not)dumb ill chosen. But your angry buddy strated with the big nose comments. Not me.

Calm down. A simple look back over the last few weeks will show you that this ridiculous troll thing is just what you lot shout when you dont like what someone says. Look at Ititi. He/she disappeared quite sharpish, without apology, when he/she realised they'd got the wrong end of the stick.

Honestly. You PCers are really spoiling MN

Shame on you [insert more useless patheticons here whilst awaiting comparison to next mythical creature]

MmeLindt · 19/07/2008 18:30

I am not at all PC, but the Jewish nose comment WAS offensive. Would it be ok if I said that my DP has a nose like a Blackie?

And your comment to Lulu was also not ok. I don't care if she works in a call center or if she is a lawyer, she is an intelligent woman who always has good advice to give.

youcannotbeserious · 19/07/2008 18:31

What's the problem?

I have, for the record, a f*ckin' huge nose. I was, and I've already said this, over the moon that my son DOESN'T have my nose.

My nose is a real family trait - we call it the cunningham nose as that's my maiden name.

If I were jewish (which as it happens, I'm not) it would be ajewish nose.

Why on earth do peple get so up set about this?

And, for the record, I DID keep my knees together adn it's NOT the milkmans baby

Thank you Mag7 but there is nothing wrong with my sense of humour.

Lulumama - saved you some cake instead.

youngbutnotdumb · 19/07/2008 20:10

OOPS sorry people I didnt mean for it to kick off I havent been on for a while.

It's just a term we as a family use and I guess I thought it was just a funny term. Its not meant to be stereotypical just a describing word. Notice how no one picked up on the Roman nose? Or did I offend the Italians too?

THANKS YCBS and MAG7 for the back up in my abscence as I said yes they were ill thought out but they were not intended to be offensive to Romans or Jews or Roman Jews who may want to kill me now PSML.

lulumama · 19/07/2008 20:26

thank you itati, and mme lindt

youngbutnotdumb · 19/07/2008 20:31

Mme since we r jumping on the PC bandwagon could I just point out this comment?

By MmeLindt on Sat 19-Jul-08 18:30:21

Your DP has a nose like a what? I find that term highly offensive to but would give u the benefit of the doubt that it was made in sarcasm. In retaliation or not u have just lowered yourself to my level(racist apparently).

MmeLindt · 19/07/2008 20:48

Youngbutnotdumb
Erm, I thought that it was clear that I was making the comparison that Anti-semitism is just as terrible as racism. I would never use the term "Darkie".

The difference between a Roman nose and a Jewish nose is that a Jewish nose is often used in a negative context.

youngbutnotdumb · 19/07/2008 20:51

Well as I explained your term offended me so we are on equal terms but anyway neither one of us did it intentionally so shall we drop it?

4madboys · 19/07/2008 21:10

nope i dont think you are being unreasonable at all, its amazing just how rude people can be tbh.........

i have four boys, and whilst in a shop recently a woman looked at me, looked all the boys up and down and said "well its obvious you arent one of those mums that sleep around, your boys all look like they have the same dad, what with their blue eyes and blonde hair"

i didnt know what to say, i was just however afterwards i realised i should have just said "NO i only sleep with aryan men....."

4madboys · 19/07/2008 21:15

sorry didnt read to the end of the thread so hadnt realised it had got a bit heated....

TinkerBellesMum · 19/07/2008 21:47

I think it's one of those sayings that people use without even thinking what it really means.

TM7, I read the joke in what you said, I think you are right SOHF or SOHBP (by-pass). Not sure why people keep jumping on your posts.

OMG, I can't believe that people are getting upset about noses! Part of my family are Jewish, some have the nose, some don't, but those that do just look so Jewish. The Jews are really a very large family so it stands to reason they will have family traits. Lots of races have traits that show what race they are. I went to a girl's school and most of the girls were Asian, I used to be amazed how Asian girls would be able to say exactly what country another Asian girl came from by their facial features or even how curly their hair is.

MmeLindt · 19/07/2008 22:50

And to get back to the OP.

I was with DH and the DCs in a Turkish restaurant recently and the waiter wanted to know what language I was speaking to the DCs (we live in Germany). I told him I was Scottish and spoke English but that the DCs also spoke German. The waiter looked at me, looked at DH and looked at the DCs (who I have to admit do not look anything like DH) and said, "So, they are not his kids, then?"

Tbh, I was not offended and neither was DH (once he got over the shock), we put it down to the waiter being rather young and naive. I laughed.

Just as well DH is not jealous though as it might have been a different story.
