Chinese takeaway

Partner A & B agreed they would feed their child a bit earlier tonight after a hectic week of Halloween discos and clubs, then the grown ups would have a takeaway for dinner once said child is asleep.

Partner A picks what they would like from the takeaway menu, sends to Partner B before starting bedtime.

Partner B knows the takeaway is usually really quick midweek, but takes around an hour on a weekend. Partner B goes ahead and orders the food (including what was requested).

Partner A is unhappy that the order is placed before the child is asleep (and therefore may come before they are ready) and wants to cancel the full order. Partner B calls the takeaway to ask to postpone delivery, which they are happy to do. Partner A no longer wants the takeaway and is making a sandwich for dinner instead.

Is Partner A unreasonable?

A is being very silly and is indeed spiting themselves. B should eat all the Chinese whilst saying, many times, yum, yum, yum this is the best Chinese I have ever eaten.

I’d be very annoyed if the food arrived too early. It would
make me anxious about the bedtime routine. I despise cold food. Chinese does not reheat the same. I would expect B to eat a piece of cheese or something of B was that impatient.

Chinese food is best cold.

TouchMyBumThisIsLife · Today 00:40

The child knows.

A is pathetic. B easily and quickly resolved the problem by having the delivery postponed literally solving A’s problem with ease and they threw a strop?!

Also doesn’t matter if the takeaway comes a little early. It will still be hot enough to serve even if you leave it out for a bit and if not, you can just heat it up. What a drama over nothing.

You would be very annoyed if the food arrived too early? It's a takeaway delivery!

How does it make you anxious about the bedtime routine? Is your bedtime routine particularly complex?

I hate cold food too that is why we have an oven and a microwave!

I don't mean to be rude but being "anxious" about bedtime because Chinese came at a certain time that was not your perfect bedtime time - it's a takeaway! They have tons of orders - they can't accommodate your bedtime routine?!

if The food came while I was putting my ASD child to bed, I would be annoyed. That is why I would not order until the odds were high of eating fresh food. With an ASD child, so many meals have been interrupted or delayed. It becomes the spouse’s job to maximize the odds of a good meal.

I disagree. Once it gets cold, it’s inedible.

puppyinapumpkinpatch · Today 01:35

I'd be very annoyed if I'd been looking forward to a takeaway and DH told me at the last minute that he'd changed his mind and was just having a sandwich. If I were Partner B, I'd eat all the takeaway myself (or save half for tomorrow, as a PP suggested).

WorkCleanRepeat · Today 01:59

Partner A is a drama queen.

Also, How long can it possibly take to tuck in a child old enough to attend a school disco?

Nopersbro · Today 02:11

I don't understand A's behaviour because it sounds like B's successfully changing the delivery time took care of A's concerns; it sounds like A just randomly changed their mind. If I were B I might be mildly annoyed by the childishness but as long as A wasn't making a fuss and we were still eating together I would just eat my share of the Chinese and leave A the other half for later.

I hate these person A, Person B, C, etc threads - for me, they don’t flow properly when reading them. Either way, OP hasn’t been back. So they’ve either gone to bed satiated by a sandwich or a takeaway!

They are so much harder to follow than just calling people Brenda and John.

I also wish people would just be honest about who they are in the story. 99% of the time we guess right anyway because people who do this or, worse, write reverses are never as perfectly objective as they think they are. It's ok not to be objective, you're giving your side of a story, but you shouldn't then obscure whose side it is. It's dishonest and misleading. If we know who's speaking, we can judge the situation more fairly. Nobody who's having a dispute would be happy to have the other person speak for them and pretend to be them!

Besides, if you don't value what we have to say when you're speaking as truthfully as possible, why would it improve when you start lying? If you don't think we give responses worth getting, ask someone else!

Laurmolonlabe · Today 09:07

Yes ,just wanting it a little later is very different to making a sandwich, this is passive aggressive controlling behaviour.

Poorabbeywalsh2 · Today 09:11

100%. What does it matter what time the food arrives. You can just warm it up. Lol, A loses out, goes to bed hungry, B satisfied with 2 dinners 😄😄😄😄😄

Inthebleakmidwinter1 · Today 09:44

This is not about the Chinese 😆

Gertibear · Today 09:47

Yes, having a tantrum 😆 What’s that all about going all moody and making a sandwhich id be so pissed off with the behaviour!

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · Today 09:51

Partner A is being daft.

We would usually order before/during bedtime as it can take so long at the weekend. I’d rather have it sat ready and waiting for a bit than be sat around hungry once DC is asleep.

Stormyrose · Today 10:03

You want to know if your partner, who I assume was hungry was being a dick, yes.
