Chinese takeaway

Partner A & B agreed they would feed their child a bit earlier tonight after a hectic week of Halloween discos and clubs, then the grown ups would have a takeaway for dinner once said child is asleep.

Partner A picks what they would like from the takeaway menu, sends to Partner B before starting bedtime.

Partner B knows the takeaway is usually really quick midweek, but takes around an hour on a weekend. Partner B goes ahead and orders the food (including what was requested).

Partner A is unhappy that the order is placed before the child is asleep (and therefore may come before they are ready) and wants to cancel the full order. Partner B calls the takeaway to ask to postpone delivery, which they are happy to do. Partner A no longer wants the takeaway and is making a sandwich for dinner instead.

Is Partner A unreasonable?

A can eat the sandwich. B csn eat their meal today and A's meal tomorrow.
But this is not about the takeaway, is it?

4timesthefun · Yesterday 20:38

On the surface A looks unreasonable, but it could be a straw that broke the camels back moment if this sort of thing is a frequent pattern with B. However, continuing to have a petulant strop about just wanting a sandwich after B had fixed the problem is childish.

Also, the details in the OP suggest they only have one child, and if they are busy at holiday clubs and discos then they are presumably at primary school. At that age, it doesn’t make sense why the food would need to be reheated irrespective of the bedtime routine. A primary school age child can spend 20 minutes reading or lying in bed unsupervised while a parent enjoys a hot meal.

Yes, you don't delay getting a take away on a weekend. Id rather have it arrive early and reheat than have to wait ages.

GeorgeMichaelsCat · Yesterday 20:39

Partner A is a drama lama

TobaccoFlower · Yesterday 20:45

Partner A is ridiculous. Partner B hasn't done anything wrong at all.

SylvanMoon · Yesterday 20:46

LTB 😅

IcedIslandLongTea · Yesterday 20:56

On the face of it A is cutting off their nose to spite their face but it could easily be a tip of the iceberg thing where B has a history of being thoughtless.

Partner A is a mentalist.

LTB 😅

All MN jokes aside, I genuinely couldn’t live with a Partner A.

morbidcuriosity · Yesterday 21:01

madness.. leave partner A to their sandwich and partner B enjoy double chinese!! yum!

InfoSecInTheCity · Yesterday 21:08

Good news for partner B, now they have leftover Chinese takeaway for breakfast! All seems a bit petty on the part of partner A but is there something else annoying or stressing them out that’s making them pick up on a little thing and focus on it?

noodlesandpickle · Yesterday 21:10

What did you order? Not relevant to the question, I just want to know.

And partner A is being a prat, but that means partner B will get more chinese.

LouisFuton · Yesterday 21:13

Are you enjoying your sarnie op

Is calling a restaurant to delay a delivery a thing now?

Yeah Timed deliveries are commonplace also. Delaying it is just ringing after order to deliver later

QuirkyHorse · Yesterday 21:15

A comes across as rather petulant.

I know about timed deliveries, I didn't know you could muck about a restaurant that was probably already making your food.

Astra53 · Yesterday 21:16

What is the problem? Pop it in a warm oven and serve it up later. I would leave partner A to the sarnie and enjoy a double portion of Chinese. Happy days!

Myremoteislost · Yesterday 21:17

A is being ridiculous and definitely cutting off their nose to spite their face.

Thesafetygeneral · Yesterday 21:18

Jesus partner A is cutting their nose off to spite their face. Just warm it up in the microwave if the kid isn’t asleep. If this is all you have to worry about then you’re winning

Lol. Chinese actually takes under 5 mins to cook ( although ages to prepare) so it's unlikely.

But a timed delivery would've made more sense in the first place tbh

I don't disagree with you and I would do the same. I'd feel a right cheeky effer to call up to delay because I hadn't got my life together!

ThatCyanCat · Yesterday 21:21

Anyone who chooses a sandwich over a Chinese is already in the wrong and has punished themselves anyway. It will be fine in the oven to stay warm!

Ponderingwindow · Yesterday 21:21

I can picture this really being about A always doing the nighttime routine and possibly more of the child responsibilities in general. This is exacerbated by an especially clingy (aka not diagnosed yet) or high needs child.

If B had been willing and able to take over bedtime if the food arrived early, this probably would not have been an issue at all.

BeardySchnauzer · Yesterday 21:26

If partner a was going bedtime then how did they know the order had been placed?

why does bedtime with a primary aged kid take so long?

partner a needs to use their words and not just be a mardy arse if there’s some other issue causing them to take this to heart
