Chinese takeaway

Partner A & B agreed they would feed their child a bit earlier tonight after a hectic week of Halloween discos and clubs, then the grown ups would have a takeaway for dinner once said child is asleep.

Partner A picks what they would like from the takeaway menu, sends to Partner B before starting bedtime.

Partner B knows the takeaway is usually really quick midweek, but takes around an hour on a weekend. Partner B goes ahead and orders the food (including what was requested).

Partner A is unhappy that the order is placed before the child is asleep (and therefore may come before they are ready) and wants to cancel the full order. Partner B calls the takeaway to ask to postpone delivery, which they are happy to do. Partner A no longer wants the takeaway and is making a sandwich for dinner instead.

Is Partner A unreasonable?

Crikey ,bedtime was so much easier when my children were little! All in bed by 7pm and then the takeaway was discussed and ordered..so much drama these days!

Why do parents make such an utter performance out of bedtime nowadays?

True. Plus I don't get why it's a problem if the takeaway arrives before little Margot goes to sleep? Surely it's in a container?.

For god's sake start to communicate better with each other. What an utter waste of time and energy.

Loub1987 · Yesterday 22:36

This seems very petty….whatever, she told you she wanted it ordered later, you didn’t listen. She is being unreasonable in being very upset about it.

I am assuming the sex of people here to be fair. Not that it particularly matters.

A needs a huge redeeming backstory.

boredandgrand · Yesterday 22:52

Partner A is a dick.

nicegreenwillow · Yesterday 22:53

Partner A has a martyrdom complex.

sweetpickle2 · Yesterday 23:01

A is being childish.

I’d much rather the takeaway comes early, warms in an oven, then is ready to eat when I come down from bedtime than having to wait another hour after that.

This. My mum, who had her kids in the 1970s and also worked in childcare all her life, is always baffled by ‘bedtime’ being a huge thing that dominates the whole evening.

Anyway. To answer the OP’s question, Partner A is a cunt.

ClarasSisters · Yesterday 23:06

Partner A sounds like a sulky prick.

butterpuffed · Yesterday 23:10

As OP hasn't returned I'm guessing they're A and don't like the majority of the answers .

CalmTheFuckDownMargaret · Yesterday 23:11

Has partner A heard of an oven? JFC. How petulant.

Ours used to consist of the order "go brush your teeth and go to bed", and an utterly cataclysmic bollocking if we weren't in bed and at least feigning sleep within 10 minutes. 🤷‍♂️

What is classed as making a performance out of bedtime?

TobaccoFlower · Yesterday 23:23

I fancy a Chinese now. I thought this was going to be about what we order. (Crispy Fried prawn noodles)

nicegreenwillow · Yesterday 23:25

We need to know if you enjoyed your sandwich.

PumpkinPrincessx · Yesterday 23:25

The fact OP hasn’t been back makes me think they’re partner A….

mondaytosunday · Yesterday 23:25

Yes

French69 · Yesterday 23:30

Sounds like drivel to me.

BarbaraBadass · Yesterday 23:58

Partner A is being a petulant fanny and needs to learn to get the kids to bed faster than it takes for a takeaway to arrive.

Exactly. I said the same upthread.

Mine is a sweet and sour king prawns with plain chow mein and prawn crackers. Or crispy chilli beef with egg fried rice. Yum. Hungry now.

I don’t think partner A is just annoyed about the Chinese. It’s likely a deeper issue than that.

Yes exactly, the way this story is framed is so biased anyway I am surprised people are rushing to judgement....actually no it's exactly what I expect

There must be more to it otherwise partner A is being ridiculous

This very logical thought has not stopped people calling them a twat, a brat etc

ymyrspokesperson · Today 00:14

Partner A is behaving really childishly. Embarrassing.
