Wes Streeting has said Britain must be ready for war in 1,000 days. This combined with the advice to stockpile while you can is highly inflammatory and worrying. AIBU to think that if there is a specific threat he should be specific? If it's a nuclear threat then he should say. We are lucky to have access to what is effectively a bunker but what can you do if you live in a bedsit in the London borough of suburbia?

I read it as a reference to traditional warfare. It's no longer boots on the ground and physical tanks rolling through city gates. It's drones, free election interference, hacking attacks on hospitals/blood banks/supply chains, bombing the underwater gas/electricity/internet cables etc.

Have you seen who Trump's likely successors are? JD Vance believes he's doing God's work, and if that leads to the Apocalypse, so be it!

It was an article in the Telegraph rather than a press release. And it wasn't quite as OP has put it. He did not say the UK would be at war within 1000 days.

How much actual factual history have you ever actually read? You do know that Russia only came on side during WW2 when Hitler turned on them? You do know that, don't you? And even then it was with a great reluctance that Stalin aligned with Churchill and FDR, often having to be dragged kicking and screaming and was renowned for his poor judgement as a war leader. However as you seem to love the Russians so much I don't suppose that fits your narrative.

I think our biggest 'threat' to national security should be the UK population gaining some motivation and pushing back against the rich getting richer and the working population being rapidly forced into poverty whilst the young have no chance.
But we'd need to channel our inner 'frenchman' for that, and we are all too British and apathetic - so more trillionaires for us it will be - and it's the trillionaires running the show and the wars now!!
