Does anyone think they DONT have ADHD?

I keep seeing posts on instagram with various reasons why someone has ADHD and then hundreds of comments below reporting these people also have all of these symptoms.
Just wondering if anyone reads these and doesn’t relate to them? To me they are just part of being human, but maybe I am completely wrong and I have ADHD🤣

the posts generally include statement along these lines…

  • I find it hard to get going or impossible to stop
  • I can put off a tiny task for weeks but worry about it for hours but when I finally complete it it takes 5 minutes
  • I can distracted and start cleaning after the shower and suddenly I’ve cleaned the whole house whilst wearing my towel
  • Having a chair covered in clothes
  • having multiple drinks on the go in the house
  • needing a calender because if not I would forget appointments

I think you are looking at it from a very self entitled, you will have what you want no matter what" mindset, what I'm saying is why do people have large families knowing these traits are passing to every kid and that the future is harder for these kids because there isn't the school places to adapt to their needs. I just don't get how nobody thinks of that.

Wow FlyingCatGirl thinks she gets to decide how many children those with autism, SEND and adhd have.

babyproblems · 25/10/2026 21:29

I think most people just use it as an excuse as to why they find life hard. Not necessarily even knowing that’s what they’re doing; but I know several people who are looking for reasons why they find things hard and they have all come to the conclusion they have ADHD. Personally I think it’s absolutely BS and they are normal and just lack resilience and reasoning skills.

Fibro is hereditary isn't it? Would you like someone to tell you not to have a child just because of your diagnosis?

And also to repeat, not everyone gets handouts. I certainly never have.

It's not hereditary so can everybody stop telling lies please! You know you are disgustingly lying that I said people shouldn't have kids! I didn't say that! I get having two kids but when they've both inherited those traits, why do people keep on having them! None of you want to answer because you know its a valid question so you get all childish and lie that I said you shouldn't have kids! Can't you lot stick to the truth and be decent!

You don’t get to decide how many children those with disabilities and conditions have.

Rondayvu · 25/10/2026 21:31

Well I do not know who 'you all' are but I have one child and they are neurotypical. Also fibro is hereditary. You need to go back to your consultant and have this explained to you.

I asked you why! You ate like a schoolgirl bully! I aren't dictating, I am asking why you don't care about the consequences and expect the support to be there for several of your own kids as well as everybody else's.

Those with autism and adhd have mountains more resilience than NTs.Both conditions have a significant impact on life.

So is it just ND children that shouldn’t be born?

I know I have ADHD, yes I do all of those but some of the things I have done in my life to get the dopamine kick would make your hair stand on end. My son got diagnosed about 3 years ago. I had to fill a check list of his behaviour as a child. I also ticked for myself every box he did. It has ruined my life by my bad decisions and low self esteem..l However I’m brilliant in a crisis and took having aggressive breast cancer so calmly the nurse thought I didn’t understand. I joked with the paramedic while lying on the middle of the road having crashed my Vespa. If I look at my family tree I can see how it runs through my whole family.

@Wildefish i don’t want to cause offence but why for example do you think these characteristics mean you have ADHD? Why would you assume this / seek a diagnosis rather than just think ‘I’m a risk taker and a person who can behave impulsively at times. This doesn’t always give me good outcomes’ and carry on with life? Or in the case of your family tree - if you have parents and relatives who have similar traits; all families do have similarities and sometimes the same traits running through generations; this doesn’t mean it is adhd. And my next thought I suppose is why then seek out a diagnosis or label for these behaviors? You’ve functioned well enough to have a child, so presumably have had some sort of relationship with another adult, also a sign of functioning well / normally. Do you think that these behaviors are things so awful for your functioning that the only option is medical treatment? Why not just acknowledge ‘I’m not great at XWZ’ and then try and improve these things. I don’t mean to sound rude - genuinely curious and your post is exactly the sort of general behaviour & reaction to it, that assumes everyone has adhd when really maybe there are things in life you’re not naturally great at, or are terrible at- which is really really normal.

I said all my children have both. I didn’t want my children to have either or the problems they endure .

Fibromyalgia most certainly is hereditary. DP’s mum has it and two of his sisters were able to secure quicker diagnoses for the same condition because their mum has it. Pity she hadn’t known about it years ago, then she could have avoided bringing more children into the world to waste finite resources.

Nobody in family has ever had it. And it's not something babies are born with and not relevant to these mothers that admit they know their kids are inheriting these traits but had large families anyway.

With the greatest respect I don’t think I’m the one sounding deranged.

Look I'm not interested in this thread anymore because you ask an honest question without lies, bullying and abuse because people are apparently uncomfortable with truth that is too close to home!
I don't care how many kids you have! It's your life that's hard and unpleasant! It's all your kids struggling with school because there isn't miiins of extra SEN schools! The problem is going to get massive and it will be whole chunk of population not in jobs when they grow up because there was not enough support to get them through school and ready for the working world. If you don't care, you don't care! It's no skin off my nose!

I’m not the one who has had posts deleted, maybe you should take a closer look at who is bullying and being abusive.

Rondayvu · 25/10/2026 21:56

So by the same token @FlyingCatGirl you are saying that you are not going to have children so to be sure you cannot pass on your fibro?

Airconfan · 25/10/2026 22:05

I have strong suspicions I’m on the spectrum. The most annoying thing I find is volume of noise. I can’t hear my friend telling me a story but I can hear 2 peope talking 2 tables over and the tap dripping. Drives me nuts that all sounds are equal at times and because I’m not good at drowning other sounds out it sometimes annoys me. Along with the inner monologue and song playing in my head 24/7.

My husband said his head is quiet sometimes and it blew my mind, no noise just quiet. Which explains why I need a tv show to fall asleep too to focus on something while he just goes to sleep

I was diagnosed with ADHD as a child in 1998 and I identify less and less with the many people I know who have recently been diagnosed or are awaiting assessment.

I notice for myself though that my phone use has exacerbated my symptoms exponentially as it’s the perfect distraction/ procrastination device that I have with me at all times and there is always a reasons I HAVE to use it and it’s a constant pull on my attention.

Phones are obviously affecting our concentration spans. When I was younger I read a lot but I can no longer concentrate on a book and haven’t read a book for years. Many people can’t concentrate on even a 20 minute YouTube video let along a film without going on their phone.

I also think that many women are juggling too much and have far too much to think about.
My friend has recently been diagnosed with ADHD and is evangelical about medication however she home educates (very well) her 5 children, lives on a small holding with many animals and a large garden, makes almost everything from scratch, has an immaculate house and works part time as a professional declutter and organiser. It doesn’t surprise me that stimulants are helping her because it seems to me thats she’s doing the job of about 5 people!

One of my dd friends mum goes on about her “ADHD brain” on instagram although I’m not sure if she’s ever been diagnosed. She is probably the most functional and well put together woman I’ve ever met and I can’t help thinking that I’d like to have her brand of ADHD instead of the one I have where everything I touch turns to chaos.
