Does anyone think they DONT have ADHD?

Frenchtoastie · 25/10/2026 07:19

I keep seeing posts on instagram with various reasons why someone has ADHD and then hundreds of comments below reporting these people also have all of these symptoms.
Just wondering if anyone reads these and doesn’t relate to them? To me they are just part of being human, but maybe I am completely wrong and I have ADHD🤣

the posts generally include statement along these lines…

  • I find it hard to get going or impossible to stop
  • I can put off a tiny task for weeks but worry about it for hours but when I finally complete it it takes 5 minutes
  • I can distracted and start cleaning after the shower and suddenly I’ve cleaned the whole house whilst wearing my towel
  • Having a chair covered in clothes
  • having multiple drinks on the go in the house
  • needing a calender because if not I would forget appointments

@FlyingCatGirl that is completely unneccesary.

Calm down! I said it's real and that my brother has it! This isn't about you so stop pretending anyone said it was! You have to accept that the numbers of people claiming to have this conditions has reached ridiculous levels! That's why it's being talked about! That's why medical professionals are raising concerns and why there has been TV documentaries questioning it! Why be personally nasty to me when I'm stating what the general feeling in the UK. Does everybody have to have it just because you've got it! Don't tell lies ever again, I told you it was real and that my brother has it but I also told you that he can't even get meds because the system is so strained by the masses jumping on the bandwagon. If the cap doesn't fit you personally then step back and stop being aggressive in your posts!

  1. you accused parents like myself late diagnosed with several children diagnosed with several NDs of jumping on a bandwagon and deciding we have the conditions ourselves.

  2. children are diagnosed in separate departments so have nothing to do with your brother’s diagnosis or wait. Late diagnosed women were shut out of the system as children so are no less worthy of diagnosis than your brother.

The numbers have absolutely not reached ridiculous levels as highlighted in the NHS adhd taskforce report which cited adhd as being under diagnosed in this country and the recent review which cited numbers being stable alongside also how people with autism and adhd have been hugely let down. Both documents said that people need better accessibility to NHS diagnosis not less.

How dare you. Reported!

When you consider that barely any girls were being diagnosed with ADHD until a few years ago, it’s hardly surprising that diagnoses have shot up. Given that it’s considered to be just as common in girls as boys, the figures are going to almost double right away. Maybe we need to look at why it’s suddenly such a problematic diagnosis, just now that women and girls are starting to seek assessments. In our, ya know, extremely fair society with no sign of a patriarchy.

Edited for missing word.

You are telling lies again! I'm a woman myself so why would I hate women and say they didn't deserve a diagnosis! Jesus Christ you are too ridiculous to converse with!

”the people that start out trying to get all their kids diagnosed with as many ND conditions each as possible because the more the merrier and then the mother decides she has all these things as well! “

“How much is the system being drained by mummies and kiddies that are jumping on a trend!”

Does that refresh your memory?

Reported for asking an honest question! You tell twisted lies about everything I haven't even saod and now you feel all aggressive and precious because I'm being honest and asking why so many people don't stop once two kids have got these conditions? You are busy attacking me and childishly reporting me but I want to know where people expect all the medical and school SEN support to deal with all these kids that need it. You are censoring an honest and sensible question! You behave like you are guilty of something.

I don’t have ADHD but my siblings think I have ASD. DH things they are insane for thinking that although I have some “traits” mostly becoming a bit obsessed with things - currently weightlifting.

Santasbigredbobblehat · 25/10/2026 07:22

Interesting phenomenon isn’t it? Someone said to me a couple of days ago ‘about my ADHD’, I had to argue I don’t have it! It makes a mockery of people’s actual struggles.

This - I get so cross when people almost use it as an excuse without having a true appreciation for what those properly diagnosed with it and quite high in the spectrum go through in comparison to them. Same for almost all neurodivergent and mental health issues really, people taking something out if proportion and claiming they have a condition.

I do not think I have ADHD.
But
Both of my besties are diagnosed with ADHD and generally I think friendships work because of a commonality.
I have work colleagues who claim I am 100% ADHD.

I’m sure anybody with a diagnosis are pretty sure they have it. You don’t get to decide who does or does not have either.

Diagnosis doesn’t cost this country a fortune, what costs this country a fortune is the under diagnosed, under supported and under treated difficulties that come with autism and ADHD - as pointed out by the adhd taskforce and recent review.

I think I do not have ADHD.

Two of my closest friends have ADHD and they describe things to me that go through their head and I am just agog. A lot of light is made of ADHD but it is so debilitating.

So in other words if my mother died of ovarian cancer I shouldnt procreate in case one of my kids go on to have ovarian cancer and cost the state money? Or breast cancer? Or what if a parent dies from a heart attack and their parent has also died from a heart attack and now it can be something in the genes is it right to say that you should not procreate because your child may develop a heart issue and need medical care through their lives? A pacemaker put in? Hell sure blood pressure medication costs should be added in too and then if a person has a stroke and needs ongoing care. Sure by your rules we should all stop having kids JUST IN CASE and the world will just die out itself.

TheRealSmurfette · 25/10/2026 21:14

I loose stuff all the time
I procrastinate chronically
I have chewed on my nails, fingers and the inside of my cheeks since I was about 3 - am now 50
I feel like I am going to explode at the start of every yoga class
I obsess over small things so much it freezes me - e.g trying to decide what colour to paint the living room for the last 7 years
I wake up with about a million different thoughts in my head
I can’t read and concentrate/ work if there’s noise or music
I’m chronically untidy - despite my very best efforts!
I lose my keys constantly / often leave them in the front door
Sitting at a desk all day (working remotely)as I do for my job, makes me what to scream/ run around/ jump up and down
I talk to everyone - I think some introverts find this annoying, so try to hold it down but it’s hard!
I find it really hard not to interrupt - am mostly good at doing this but not 100%
If I’m bored it’s a struggle to fake interest

Meanwhile I have a very responsible job, (as in I am the leader of a organisation) wonderful friends, loving husband and kind, smart kids…, one of whom I see has my traits.

Never been diagnosed… not sure it’s worth it… am trying to figure this out…

Oh come on. Don’t be so disingenuous. That is one step away from saying that neurodivergent people who are aware of their condition, shouldn’t have children. All you’re doing is putting an arbitrary cap on the number. If you can’t see how problematic your comments are, there’s not much hope for you. Dressing it up as ‘just having a conversation’ doesn’t make it more palatable.

So those of us with autism and ADHD shouldn’t have children, how lovely.

Newsflash those with autism and adhd don’t get anything either- as highlighted by the recent review.

Rondayvu · 25/10/2026 21:21

Fibro is hereditary isn't it? Would you like someone to tell you not to have a child just because of your diagnosis?

And also to repeat, not everyone gets handouts. I certainly never have.

I think you are looking at it from a very self entitled, you will have what you want no matter what" mindset, what I'm saying is why do people have large families knowing these traits are passing to every kid and that the future is harder for these kids because there isn't the school places to adapt to their needs. I just don't get how nobody thinks of that.

I'm AuDHD (officially diagnosed). I was late diagnosed, very late. No, not everyone who reads those posts and relates to them, will have ADHD, but a large proportion will! Both ADHD and ASD are drastically underdiagnosed, especially in older females! Making fun of those posts, and saying they create a problem is very narrow minded. Seeing a post that resonates is the first step for many women. They finally might have an answer, they finally might be able to make sense of their life. That's to be encouraged, not ridiculed!

I think you’re simplifying it. I do have adhd. I have a calendar on the wall. And a calendar on my phone. And then 20 different alarms for everything I will need to remember over the week. ie I need an alarm for everything. Alarm to get up, alarm for school run count down, alarm for groups, alarm for school pick up, alarm for medications, alarm to remind children, alarm for appointments. Often will set two alarms for something important to be sure I don’t get distracted after the first and then lose track of time.
