If the UK is on the brink of war, we are screwed.

So, if Trump said that lots of Amercians have British ancestry, his mother was Scottish - I think we should actually invade the UK and take them over! And the rest of the world said, this isn't our problem, crack on Trump. You'd be fine with that?

Why are you bothered about Russia invading Poland?

Skdkhvyvrhej · 25/10/2026 01:21

I don’t think that’s the general feeling.

Our business is is a luxury non essential. We are easily rocked by uncertainty.

We make most of our money Sept- Oct and Feb to March.

We have had a surprisingly good Sept- Oct. People are happy, they are spending and planning for the future.

Which really was a surprise to me. All the other PM changes have had impact. Even trumps little hissy fits crashed our March. So I wasn’t expecting things to be so smooth.

Trump isn't going to invade Britain. Why does it concern Britain if Russia invades Ukraine? or Poland? I am more concerned about the daily invasion of Britain by people on rubber dinghies.

I just struggle to understand why we should give a fuck about Ukraine or Poland even. Russia is no threat to this country. Why our are leaders so obsessed with the Russia/Ukraine conflict.

KeefTeef · 25/10/2026 01:29

Just remind me again who we are going to war with? Have they announced it on the news?

Successive governments have drawn the attention of Russia by backing bloody Ukraine without any public mandate. Time we had a public referendum on this or better still moved to direct representation. Time to dump the cold fashioned. slow and unrepresentative parliamentary democracy whereby we elect 6500 tossers to sit on their backsides in an old fashioned building and talk. In this age of universal smartphones we have the technology to move to something better and faster.

6500? It must be a bunfight for seats in the chamber.

Because some people think that you shouldn't invade another country, killing civilians, when they haven't done anything to threaten you. Because some people think that if Russia are allowed to get away with invading Ukraine, they could try other countries next. Because some people think that if Russia is allowed to invade Ukraine unopposed, other countries, anywhere in the world, might think hmmm, I'd like to try that too. Because some people actually care about the wellbeing of others, and don't like to see injustice. Some people are crazy!

The reason I can no longer get an NHS dentist= The Tories.
The reason the roads are covered in pot holes= Tory neglect.
The reason I have to wait 2 months for a blood test= Tory cuts (it was 3 but 2 since Labour came in).
Would you like more examples, OP?
If Reform ever get in, we’re double fucked!

Russia is a major world power on the fringe of Europe and post glasnost developed economic and political ties with the UK outside of its relationship with broader Europe. USA is also a major world power that the UK has long standing economic and political ties to outside of its relationship with broader Europe.

The UK therefore has both many vested interests in and a geopolitically important role to play re the direction the balance of power swings to wrt these two and anything that tips the balance (eg one of them invading a neighbouring country) is our business and is within our sphere of influence. That it was Ukraine that was invaded is also relevant to the UK because again Ukraine has political and economic ties to the UK (to the extent eg that some of its politicians including zelensky own properties and assets here) and also continental Europe.

I get that there's been a lot of nonsense and hot air spouted about the Russia/Ukraine war, about how it's a fight for democracy against an evil madman and so on, but that doesn't mean it's irrelevant to us. It is absolutely relevant in a realpolitik sense and the UK government couldn't just have ignored it.

Try living in Scotland. We have monopoly on useless, incompetent governments.

We'd have been screwed in WWII without the Russians as it goes. The eastern front is what did the Nazis in, and the scale of Russian deaths was so huge it amounted to demographic alteration.

GettingThereEveryDay · 25/10/2026 01:01

Indeed. And they are smelling weakness which makes us extremely vulnerable to attack

Russia are 'smelling weakness' because they managed successfully to get us to leave the EU and distance ourselves from our allies. Putin has also managed to install a puppet as the US president. This situation is unfortunately years in the making and not at all the fault of our current government.

The 3 days food supply is just good sense, whether or not our infrastructure is attacked. There are power cuts across the country tonight because of storms, having sone non perishable food and torches around is just thinking ahead.

The ignorance is terrifying. Does no one have any skills in thinking a little deeper than the most superficial level any more? No wonder reform is getting votes
