Bayeux Tapestry tickets…

Pansykavalier · 21/10/2026 12:30

“Ticket availability for The Bayeux Tapestry between January and March 2027 is now limited, and tickets may have sold out when you reach the front of the queue. If you miss out, don’t worry, there will be further ticket releases – bookings for April to July 2027 will open in early 2027.”

Rinse lather repeat…

If you miss out, don’t worry…

No doubt it’ll be the same story when the next and last batch of tickets will be released in January.

I was in the queue hours before they went on sale, today and last time. No doubt it’ll be the same story next time.

Anyone here been lucky…….. is there a secret knack?

No secret knack
i logged on at 10 am and got into the website within 40 mins and got tickets
My DH had no such luck

OCDmama · 21/10/2026 12:31

I logged in at 10am am 139000 in the queue!

Newbuildbuyerconfused · 21/10/2026 12:32

I’ve been in the queue since it opened still 79000 in front of me

OsfameronTanamoril · 21/10/2026 12:32

I got tickets for last Friday thanks to a kindly Mner who sent out an alert. It was amazing!

TimeForTeaAndG · 21/10/2026 12:34

Are they only open for tickets sales today? Likely that a bunch are bought up by your operators and then released back later if you are able to keep checking back every few days/weeks. We got tickets for a specific date to a tour thing even though it was originally sold out.

A few were released last week.

Given that there are over one hundred thousand people in the queue as we speak, it is safe to stay they’ll all be gone before the end of today.

I must admit I had originally set alerts several weeks ago to remind myself to get myself in the queue.

After al the press about the endless mismanaged queues and barely getting to see it - or not at all for those with slots later in the day - I decided to bail out. I don't want to pay for return tickets to London and barely be able to see it.

I think there's a third tranche of tickets for later in 2027; I'll either try then or say bugger it and go to Bayeaux on holiday in future.

Smithstreet · 21/10/2026 12:40

No idea how expensive British Museum membership is, but a friend of mine got tickets last week for February as they release tickets to members earlier. If desperate to go, this could be an option (although I have no idea how expensive membership to British museum is, or if you have had to be a member for certain amount of time etc). I saw it in Bayeaux 2 years ago so feeling lucky to not be in this battle for tickets.

I found the queue well managed and had no issues last Friday at 1800. Signage could be better but there is an app to download an audio guidr.
I did watch a video before seeing it to educate myself.

That's encouraging. As a wheelchair user I'm worried that I won't be able to see much. I'm ambulatory, but I can't stand for more that 5-10 minutes at a time.

OsfameronTanamoril · 21/10/2026 12:46

Oh not sure about wheelchair viewing @OttersOnAPlane but think it should be ok.

MitohMit · 21/10/2026 12:47

I don’t know why exactly, but i joined the q at the same time as two friends… I was immediately with only about 5000 ahead of me whereas my mates were around 295000 places behind me! I waited just an hour and bought for my friends too, at which point they exited the queue.
If this happens frequently then you may move up the queue faster then the queueing platform originally estimated.

NerdyBird · 21/10/2026 12:49

I’m 21000-ish in the queue. I’ve been in it since before it opened. I doubt we’ll get tickets. I have already seen it in France but I wanted to take DD, and a trip to London is much quicker, easier and cheaper than France!

VanWeezer · 21/10/2026 12:49

I'm in the queue. 140000 people infront if me. Was about 155000 when I joined at 10.

OffTheMap · 21/10/2026 12:52

98,000 people ahead of me....down from 113,663 when I started. My friend says all weekend tix now sold out.

aintnospringchicken · 21/10/2026 12:53

I was fortunate to see the tapestry in Bayeux a number of years ago when we had a holiday in Normandy.
Worthwhile seeing. Good luck to everyone trying to get tickets.

Pansykavalier · 21/10/2026 12:58

Booking has now ended
Tickets for The Bayeux Tapestry between September 2026 and March 2027 have sold out. If you’ve missed out, don’t worry, there will be further releases – bookings for April to June 2027 will open in early 2027.

f*ck

This is how I feel as well. It's not just the queuing for me. I've also seen a lot of people describe it as a much more rushed experience than they expected.

Don't think I'd enjoy travelling all the way to London with my autistic DH who wants to look at things in detail, only for us to be told that we need to keep moving... We're now planning to go and see the van Eyck exhibition in the National Gallery instead. That's also a 'once in a lifetime' experience.

Secret knacks:

  1. Become a BM member though still no guarantee "The final Member priority booking window will take place in January 2027 for visits in April to July 2027." https://www.britishmuseum.org/membership/membership-faqs
  2. Make friends with a BM staff member (you used to get in for free with most London museum staff or anyone with Museum Association membership, but alas not for this one)
  3. Visit it in France in autumn 2027.
NerdyBird · 21/10/2026 13:10

Bah, missed out. Will try again next time!

Owhatfuckeryisthis · 21/10/2026 13:12

I was working and dh was in the car. So thats us fucked.
Am going to persuade dh that we go to France instead, where its cheaper, easier and the food is better.

adviceatthislatestage · 21/10/2026 13:12

Started out with nearly 102k people in front of me. Got to 6449th in the queue and they’ve sold out. Will try next year again in the New Year.

They did random queue allocation rather than at what time people signed in, which was odd- I’ve not seen that before

fiveminutestochill · 21/10/2026 13:15

When I clicked on it at 9, they said the queue would open at 10 and I'd be 'assigned a random place in the queue' so not sure there is a knack sadly. Oh well

I saw that too, not sure of the reasoning behind it though. So someone could have sighed in after me and been allocated no 2 in the queue?
