Bayeux Tapestry tickets…

“Ticket availability for The Bayeux Tapestry between January and March 2027 is now limited, and tickets may have sold out when you reach the front of the queue. If you miss out, don’t worry, there will be further ticket releases – bookings for April to July 2027 will open in early 2027.”

If you miss out, don’t worry…

No doubt it’ll be the same story when the next and last batch of tickets will be released in January.

I was in the queue hours before they went on sale, today and last time. No doubt it’ll be the same story next time.

Anyone here been lucky…….. is there a secret knack?

I joined the queue at 10.00 and there were 47,000 ahead of me

No luck - never mind!

Calliecarpa · 21/10/2026 14:14

I was about 53,000 in the queue this morning and all the tickets went long before I got anywhere near the front of the queue, but DP joined on his own laptop and was 7000 and something, so managed to nab us a couple of tickets for February, yay!

Lucyslateagain · 21/10/2026 14:20

We are in the que ,can't imagine we will get any

They are sold out, so how can you be in the queue?

The next and last batch will go on sale in January.

From what I hear, getting tickets for Da Vinci’s Last Supper in Milan is worse as that’s limited to one 40 people every 15 mins (max time you’re allowed in).

we booked about 3 or 4 weeks ahead and had no problems getting tickets.

Thank you for those who mentioned the copy in Reading - I will try this! (Any suggestions for a nice restaurant for lunch or dinner? Thanks 🥂)

Surprised anyone’s bothering with all the bad press the exhibition has had - queues, people not getting in at all despite having a ticket, only having 40 mins to actually see the tapestry, having staff haranguing visitors to move on move on…
its pure greed, selling so many tickets and cramming people in. Just wait until it goes back to France and see it there.

We went on a Saturday lunchtime in September. There was hardly a queue and we were in and out of the whole thing in under an hour. I think it’s just luck. We really enjoyed it and didn’t even feel rushed.

Where have you read that people can't see it even if they have a ticket? I would say that the request for people to keep moving was done in a very polite way only. No one was harangued. In fact the whole experience was very British, queuing, no moaning and everyone was polite.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 21/10/2026 14:36

Honestly, if you’re that bothered wait and go tobsee it when it’s back in France. It would cost me £100 in rail fare plus the entrance fee and for that I think I’d rather have a weekend in France and see it at leisure!

@Pansykavalier We’re trying to book 8 weeks ahead for the Last Supper and every ticket is gone. And that’s for midweek. 😳. We’ve ended up having a book a guided tour (for 6 x ticket price!) to get in.

I must admit I had originally set alerts several weeks ago to remind myself to get myself in the queue.

After al the press about the endless mismanaged queues and barely getting to see it - or not at all for those with slots later in the day - I decided to bail out. I don't want to pay for return tickets to London and barely be able to see it.

I think there's a third tranche of tickets for later in 2027; I'll either try then or say bugger it and go to Bayeaux on holiday in future.

Plus Normandy has beaches, Mont St Michel, cheese, Calvados…

The museum can't really win can it? They either cram people in and people complain about crowding and being rushed through or they sell less tickets so people get to spend more time in there but then there is even less a chance of getting a ticket... 😂 I'm not bothering, I saw it in France a few years ago so am feeling rather lucky now 😁

TBH we ate in the museum, it was nothing fancy though but very busy and fresh. Lots to see there. Park at hill meadow carpark walk in (if you are coming from the north as saves navigating reading and is cheap). We spent 4 hours in the museum and then went to the Abbey. Was so impressed by the museum and their guides that I actually paid the suggested entrancevfee.

Cheguevarahamster · 21/10/2026 16:59

I manged to get tickets on Monday as I randomly saw they had tickets available next week. Happy days.

I saw it in Bayeux years ago and it was fantastic. Lots to do in Normandy anyway - Honfleur, Monet's garden at Giverny, Rennes is a lovely city to visit, D-Day beaches etc.

I was hoping I could take the children while it was here, but the set up sounds exhausting. I'll wait and maybe take them to Bayeux in a year or two.

DancingCactusFlower · 21/10/2026 17:07

Logged in at 9:30, randomly allocated to position 20,000 in the Q at 10, closed the sale when I was at about 5,000

Periwinkletoes · 21/10/2026 17:13

We went to see it a week after it opened. Just lucky in the queue for tickets I guess. 20 minutes wait to see the tapestry itself but I felt that the atmosphere in the dark with projections giving information and putting the work in context got us in the mood. When we saw the tapestry itself I did not feel rushed. We walked slowly, occasionally pausing to have a closer look a particular points. Museum staff reminding us very politely to keep moving now and again. I think the whole thing took about an hour. I recommend watching some of the documentaries on the BBC to get yourself up to speed with the history before you go.

WaitingForAComet · 21/10/2026 17:14

For those who can't get tickets, there are at least 2 full-scale replicas in the UK at the moment - Reading Museum and Tewkesbury Abbey.

Downtherushingglen · 21/10/2026 18:33

No knack to it. DH and I logged in at same time. I was at 95000, he was at 2000. We managed to get 2 tickets on his log in.

ShiftySquirrel · 21/10/2026 19:03

I logged on at 10, got allocated somewhere just after 99000 other people. DH tried too and got 45,000. A work colleague got placed 120,000+.
No luck for any of us!

You should air bnb for it. I think there’ll be a lot of us heading over when it’s back.

I guess if this has encouraged people to take and interest who might not have done otherwise (not saying you but a lot of people) then it’s a good thing!

You could also give a needle and thread and a hallway carpet to a 5 year old and get something similar.

TrepidationOfTheSpheres · 21/10/2026 22:46

I didn't have any luck either, randomly allocated at 10am but had 50,000 in front of me. I think people can buy up to 10 tickets at a time, and after last time sold out so quickly, I bet people were buying them in much bigger batches to take family and friends with them this time (I don't think you can sell/return/pass them on otherwise, though). Last time people were still getting in that afternoon or evening, and I imagine they were just buying the 2 or 4 or whatever that they actually needed.

PandaCory · 21/10/2026 22:58

There were 267411 people in front of me in the queue today and by the time i got on the website tickets were sold out.

I saw it years ago so am not overly bothered, but husband would like to take the kids. Although he's now starting to think a family holiday to northern France in a couple of years would be easier.

Shatenoeuf · 21/10/2026 23:02

Everybody is in the queue because everybody is in the queue... i had an epiphany, i'll go and see it in a few years time in france when the fuss dies down.
