I’ll start:

BMW X1 2022
Year left on PCP, paying £350 a month

Need inspiration for what to do next, tempted to buy a used outright!

Dh has a 2010 ford focus diesel, bought for cash at 4 years old. We have put a lot of miles on it has over 230,000 yet is still going strong.

I have a 2016 Nissan leaf, bought outright at 4 years old, used by me mainly and I love it. Only wish it had a longer range, has had hardly any work done on it and is so cheap to run.

Also bought outright a 2015 coras for DD only had it a year, but is doing well and hasn't needed any major work. Is a nice car to drive.

DH has done the maths many times (including servicing, MOT and most wear and tear parts) and it still always works out cheaper too by a car outright and keep it running then to replace them to often or do hire purchase. Even when his company where offering deals on new cars.

VeryQuaintIrene · 20/10/2026 20:35

2014 Nissan Maxima, bought in 2021 with under 30K miles on the clock. Now paid off and I love it. It's big and powerful and curvy in looks - I call it the poor man's Jaguar and love it dearly.

Just got rid of my ten year old Volvo V40 that I bought for cash
Just bought a 2024 Yaris Cross, part exchange and cash.
Also own a 2011 Suzuki swift bought for cash when six months old. Both DC learned in it, borrowed it and we keep it as a spare. Currently on loan to one DC while their car is repaired.
@Kitchenbattle how do you like your Yaris Cross?
Mine is a special edition, lots of bells and whistles. Very bossy. 70mpg.

@Thesque i absolutely LOVE it, it’s the basic model, no bells and whistles at all. I got it in the green which is so nice!! It’s a lot cheaper to run than my last car so I’m delighted with it!

HeNeedsRehab · 20/10/2026 20:36

Cupra Tavascan EV costs £280 a month on lease. After 2 years I’ll just send it back and probably opt for a company car. I got it brand new with a handful of miles on the clock.

I get a car allowance from work that more than covers the lease plus insurance. Could’ve gone for something flashier but would rather the money in my pocket!

MrsClattenburg · 20/10/2026 20:41

Audi Q3 bought outright (5 years old)

I'm thinking of changing it for an A4 estate with more accessories but the Q3 has been such a great trouble-free car, I'm nervous to trade it in 😬

Ineedanewsofa · 20/10/2026 20:41

25 plate Mazda CX-60, owned outright - traded in a 72 plate BMW 420i that I’d paid off and only had a small additional balance to pay. Feels great to be out of the PCP trap!

Almsost everyone on MN claims to own expensive cars outright, OP.

I have a brand new Omoda hybrid. Costs £295 a month, but saving £200 a month in fuel compared to previous Kia Sportage (which I did own outright, but only after paying off for years) so girl maths says it's only £95 to have a shiny new car.

Almsost everyone on MN claims to own expensive cars outright

Why would we lie about something so dull? 😄

SabbatWheel · 20/10/2026 20:51

2021 BMW X5.
Bought outright this year with 32k on the clock.

UnaGatita · 20/10/2026 20:57

2009 Hyundai i10 bought 8 yrs ago for about £4k cash with 18,000 miles. Just hit 129,000 miles, I budget around £700 a year for tax, insurance, service, repairs and consumables. Planning on trying to get it to 200,000 miles because saving for a new car is taking forever.

Youngbutsuccessfulmum · 20/10/2026 20:59

2025 Skoda Kamiq

Bought outright. Don't believe in credit, always shop within your means else you end up paying a fortune in interest

bettyrubble99 · 20/10/2026 21:03

A Hyundai Tuscon hybrid N-Line 1.6T
2025 plate. Bought outright. Absolutely love it.
Before this one i had a Vauxhall astra. Oh i loved her. I had her 10yrs and when she got written off....I was DEVASTATED. I bloody loved that car. RIP Veronica x

BudgetLiving · 20/10/2026 21:07

Vauxhall Zafira, used, bought outright to replace an older Zafira.

My workplace has a lease scheme as a benefit, but I did the calculations and it was going to cost more overall than buying used. I had to borrow a bit from my parents (now paid back) to cover it, but I would still have chosen used over new if I'd had to get finance.

They lose so much value in the first year, it's just not worth buying new.

Londonrach1 · 20/10/2026 21:09

Skoda fabia...best car ever. Replaced my skoda fabia which I had for 20 years a couple of years ago with a newer one. I won't drive or own any other car than a skoda now. Bought the replacement for my 20 year old skoda outright second hand after two years of saving. Was 5k to buy. Tax is £20 per year!!!

HelpMeGetThrough · 20/10/2026 21:15

2026 IM5 Performance EV.

Salary sacrifice costs £488 per month, but I get a £500 per month car allowance. Don’t have to pay for anything else on the car as it’s all in the scheme.

8TinyToeBeans · 20/10/2026 21:19

2023 Vauxhall Corsa. Bought outright new. Don’t need something swanky. I drive about 3k miles per year so it’s just a run around. There’s a lot of things I’d rather spend my money on! My plan is to use it for about a decade, ideally, then get something more motorway suitable cause my parents will be 80 at that point and I anticipate doing a lot more miles to support them. Hopefully something through salary sacrifice to save tax. Neighbour has a Volvo that I am somewhat jealous of but for now, I’d rather have my cheap runaround and pile money into my pension. My time for a nice car will come. 😂

Bubbaliciousss · 20/10/2026 21:19

I had a little audi which I loved, but the contract was up and I'd just bought a new house and couldn't justify paying a few hundred quid a month for a new car so bought myself a 2016 seat for 3k. Actually really like it!

S89 · 20/10/2026 21:21

2017 Seat Leon 2.0 diesel. Owned since 2 years old. Bought outright with a loan and part ex of an unreliable Volvo. Paid off years ago. Brilliant car and easily the best car I've ever had. Now on 104k miles and I'm planning to keep it for as long as possible. The only repairs it's needed in nearly 8 years have been a shock absorber, a coil spring and an oil pressure sensor, probably less than £300 for the lot over 8 years.

Does much come up on your MOTs for it?

Renault 5. Traded in my car and paid outright the difference.
Charges off solar power, cheap as chips to run. We worked out today it costs about a fiver to charge up to full.

Delighted with it.

Edited

I love those. So glad theu styled it on thr old Renault 5. Only ev I could be tempted with

FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren · 20/10/2026 21:26

11 year old Merc A45, bought outright.

Gall10 · 20/10/2026 21:26

Bus pass…cost nowt as I’m old!! But pay £12 a year to use local metro transport system. Bargain!
All you Mumsnet posters who are so concerned about the environment need to use buses more… save the planet! 🌍

MoreHairyThanScary · 20/10/2026 21:26

Bought an 4 year old id3 with a loan 22000 miles on the clock. Pay £268/ month costs between £3-4 each charge at home and I charge a couple of times a week. Absolutely love it
, Fun to drive and lots of fun toys

Mine is also green. My none negotiable car shopping criteria were heated seats and a nice colour. It's a little under powered if I'm honest. But I love the all round cameras, the high up position and the footprint is smaller than my old V40.

Mumofyellows · 20/10/2026 21:31

2026 BYD Atto 2 EV. Salary sacrifice, everything is included and considering we have gone from paying for 2 cars with associated tax, insurance etc and the tax benefit it’s well worth it plus we don’t have to worry if it needs repairing. It’s a great car.

Elfie23 · 20/10/2026 21:33

2024 Ford Puma Vignale ST line in grey I bloody love it. Costs £328 a month because my previous Puma trade in didn’t quite cover the outstanding finance so about £50 of that each month is a loan in with the finance.
Just got promoted and thought sod it - well done me I’ll have the car I want
