Did something a bit silly at work

I regularly visit schools for my job. One school had to change premises to a larger school site whilst building works were being undertaken on the original school building.

The support staff of the new building were unpleasant and unfriendly- possibly because they didn’t want to share their building with another school.

Each week for the past nine months or so I’ve experienced unpleasantness with one particular member of staff on the front desk. Things like deliberately keeping me waiting to let me in and out of the building (she would pretend she wasn’t in the office, but I could see her in the reflection of one of the windows, she thought she was out of sight), abrupt manner, unhelpful, not passing on messages, rolling eyes because she has to get out of her chair to press a button to release the door, huffing because my mere presence is an inconvenience etc, you get the picture.

A couple of weeks ago we had a slight altercation, she was scowling as usual as I arrived and I asked her if everything was ok as she seemed quite unhappy to see me. She immediately became defensive and gave me a right mouthful so I calmly told her she maybe should develop some social skills given she was on the front desk 😳

I spoke to the head teacher of ‘my school’ who said she’d deal with it. Miraculously, over the next couple of weeks the doors were unlocked and she was not in the office as I walked passed. Result

Today was my last day as the school are moving back to their original premises after half term and I did something a little immature. In the foyer at the entrance is a photograph of all the school staff and their names, there was no-one around. Without thinking I got out my sharpie and drew a moustache and angry eyebrows on the picture of this person. Under her name I wrote ‘Miss Funsucker’. I did chuckle about it for the rest of the day but now I feel a bit bad and anxious I will get into trouble- it wouldn’t take Sherlock Holmes to work out it was me 😬

should I do nothing or should I do something - if so what? I know it’s a long shot but has anyone else done this?

🤣 Doesn't look like it.

I guess chatting online to me is not attention, I understand to others it may be seen as attention though

They might even question the children about it, making them uncomfortable for no good reason. This was such a bad move.

You had me until you said the sharpie bit. The receptionist where I volunteer treats me the same way. After 4 years I've had a quiet word with her and said that it hurts my feelings when she rolls her eyes at me. She's stopped that, but still makes me wait and doesn't respond when I say hello, goodbye, thank you etc. Someone who doesn't know how to act on reception is bizarre, but telling the head is a bit much for me. Graffiti on a school picture is way too far.

Ok I’m really not going to retype for the fourth or fifth time the reason why I made the thread.

I thought it was rude to ignore posters who had questions? Should I ignore? Sorry if there’s too many pages for you to scroll through but that is indeed your choice on whether you wish to do so or not.

I’ve NOT ONCE said I think it was great or hilarious

I’ve taken on a lot of feedback- agreed with a lot and not agreed with a few posts, not sure what the point of your post was to be honest

I’m sure you don’t see the point of my post because you are absolutely impervious to any perspective but your own!

Eek.

You could be in a lot of trouble....

Funny yes but this could be career damaging to your salary....

omg...how ??....drawing a moustache and angry eyebrows on a photo of some tardy mare is hardly criminal

LBFseBrom · 20/10/2026 18:32

Don't think any more about it - unless you were caught on cctv.

You won't have been the only one to have experienced her unpleasant manner. She's lucky to still have a job!

That’s not true at all but it’s ok to have different opinions 👍

I don’t actually think she does have that job anymore

Yes it was funny at the time but funny and hilarious are different words. Although related hilarious means extremely funny, or amusing or uncontrolled.

Also I said a bit funny. Nothing close to hilarious

I am very much understanding why this woman would roll her eyes at you

🤣🤣🤣🤣 This is so funny! No doubt more fun suckers will have appeared on this thread to tell you how naughty you were but life is too short not to have a sense of humour! Lighten up fun suckers!

I’m thinking I should call 111 to get my side of the story in quick before my house is raided by SWAT. I’m so sorry I didn’t realise my arty and creative facial features complimented with a rather immature name such as Ms Funsucker was so heinous

While reading all of this thread, all I could think about was if this was in a movie and we'd watched all these negative interactions with you continuing to be polite and then having this random, impulsive moment where you drew on their photo.. we'd all be nodding, smiling and internally whopping for the good guy finally having a small act of defiance!!

The eye rolling is fine, it’s the making me late that really wound me up. Hate lateness, I don’t do late

Yes thank you. I have a great day planned tomorrow. New school, new presentation of myself new HT, hopefully it’ll go well, and I’ll be sure I don’t bring a sharpie in case there’s a photo gallery

It was a sentence, not a lecture. You do seem to struggle with words and their meaning don’t you 😁
