Did something a bit silly at work

I regularly visit schools for my job. One school had to change premises to a larger school site whilst building works were being undertaken on the original school building.

The support staff of the new building were unpleasant and unfriendly- possibly because they didn’t want to share their building with another school.

Each week for the past nine months or so I’ve experienced unpleasantness with one particular member of staff on the front desk. Things like deliberately keeping me waiting to let me in and out of the building (she would pretend she wasn’t in the office, but I could see her in the reflection of one of the windows, she thought she was out of sight), abrupt manner, unhelpful, not passing on messages, rolling eyes because she has to get out of her chair to press a button to release the door, huffing because my mere presence is an inconvenience etc, you get the picture.

A couple of weeks ago we had a slight altercation, she was scowling as usual as I arrived and I asked her if everything was ok as she seemed quite unhappy to see me. She immediately became defensive and gave me a right mouthful so I calmly told her she maybe should develop some social skills given she was on the front desk 😳

I spoke to the head teacher of ‘my school’ who said she’d deal with it. Miraculously, over the next couple of weeks the doors were unlocked and she was not in the office as I walked passed. Result

Today was my last day as the school are moving back to their original premises after half term and I did something a little immature. In the foyer at the entrance is a photograph of all the school staff and their names, there was no-one around. Without thinking I got out my sharpie and drew a moustache and angry eyebrows on the picture of this person. Under her name I wrote ‘Miss Funsucker’. I did chuckle about it for the rest of the day but now I feel a bit bad and anxious I will get into trouble- it wouldn’t take Sherlock Holmes to work out it was me 😬

should I do nothing or should I do something - if so what? I know it’s a long shot but has anyone else done this?

I find it hard to believe any 'responsible' adult could do this 'without thinking'. I find it harder to believe that a professional would think it funny.

if I heard that a potential hire had done something so puerile I wouldn't consider working with them.

So many replies on this thread but its all fake. The poster started another contentious thread a while ago and gave similar replies in what is a very distinctive style of writing.

Besides, nobody could be so stupid as to claim they are professional and good at their job whilst at the same time claiming to have done something so juvenile.

You may have a point but I’m not fake I’m authentic 😁

That’s ok, we probably work in very different industries

Dreadfully childish and they will know it's you by tracking the CCTV as to who was in the foyer at the time, even if there wasn't a camera actually recording your wanton vandalism.

But, you seem strangely proud of your actions. You will just have to take on the chin whatever is coming your way. Hopefully, if you still want it, your job is safe.

Well what’s done is done. Surely it’ll be a slap on the wrist if anything. Might be best to deny deny deny though.

Not to mention get this thread deleted op!

If this is true it's very identifying and incriminating!

Some employers are pretty shitty.

I agree, I could never be employed

You clearly haven’t read the most salient points

Funny, but probably not the most sensible thing you've ever done.
Most likely though, no one will even notice for a while, and even if they do, they'd probably assume it was a kid. Most school offices I know are always busy at the end of the day with kids coming in and out with parents, asking questions, handing in forms etc.
I'd say the likelihood of anyone caring enough to scrub through unknown amounts of CCTV (which is no guarantee it exists - I also visit a lot of schools as a supply teacher, and very few primary schools have it), to find out who it was, is pretty low.

DorsetCafes · 20/10/2026 16:35

What I don’t understand about this is, why you chose this particular route. I get that you didn’t like this person and nobody else does either. And I think you said you wanted to get back at this person because they are unhelpful, uncooperative and vindictive and nobody else at the school dares to say anything.
But why do this, and write “funsucker” of all things, - which isn’t really what this person is anyway? Why not use your position and influence with the head to say something more accurate, which might have a faint hope of getting something done about it?

Yes, I think that's a very good question. It was a strange route to go down, for sure.

If you were counselling a school child who said they'd done this, what would you say?

thecatdidit · 20/10/2026 16:37

What a bizarre thread. I was mildly amused by @Saracopp defacing a photo and I would probably have liked to do the same (but my anxiety would prevent it) I can't believe how many people have had their comments deleted for breaking guidelines.
😂

Daysgo · 20/10/2026 16:40

What a nasty thing to do. Extremely immature, unprofessional and bullying.

FluffyFlipflops · 20/10/2026 16:41

Can't believe how ragey some people are getting over this. I mean, was it your finest hour? No. Was it a wise decision to do what you did? No. However I think it's bloody hilarious 😂

I’d ask why they had done it and take steps from there

And the Police wouldn't have any interest in this. Blimey, it's not like you put nails in her tyres or a brick through the window! I bet everyone who has seen it has had a chuckle.

! I bet everyone who has seen it has had a chuckle.no,
I was never into the punch and Judy, custard tarts throwing and clowns in funny costumes kind of humour. Didn't think it funny then and don't think it funny now

All entrances and exits will be covered as standard.

I work in a school and we have absolutely no cctv or security cameras so it’s definitely not standard to have them.

Meh, I think it's quite funny, it was a moustache, not a massive cock. Probably not your most considered move but hardly crime of the century.

This is why I love the construction industry, where we traditionally say (and draw) exactly what we think...

NoteyMcNoteface · 19/10/2026 20:56

Must be one of the only schools in the country that doesn’t, how convenient for you.

The school I work in doesn’t have any sort of cctv or security cameras. Neither do most of the primary schools in our area.

I've no idea how you manage when there's vandalism, vaping, bullying, theft, graffiti and internal truancy. Never mind strangers attempting to get in.
Or determining who was in a fight.
How stressful.

Not the he crime of the century? I'm going to say that's a very low bar.

Yes. All those people laughing out loud at the prank. So easily amused! I have a pretty good sense of humour, and enjoy satire etc but it would def take more than this to make me laugh.

We’re a primary school so thankfully don’t have most of these issues.

And what if a child was upset that somebody had defaced their photo?
