Did something a bit silly at work

I regularly visit schools for my job. One school had to change premises to a larger school site whilst building works were being undertaken on the original school building.

The support staff of the new building were unpleasant and unfriendly- possibly because they didn’t want to share their building with another school.

Each week for the past nine months or so I’ve experienced unpleasantness with one particular member of staff on the front desk. Things like deliberately keeping me waiting to let me in and out of the building (she would pretend she wasn’t in the office, but I could see her in the reflection of one of the windows, she thought she was out of sight), abrupt manner, unhelpful, not passing on messages, rolling eyes because she has to get out of her chair to press a button to release the door, huffing because my mere presence is an inconvenience etc, you get the picture.

A couple of weeks ago we had a slight altercation, she was scowling as usual as I arrived and I asked her if everything was ok as she seemed quite unhappy to see me. She immediately became defensive and gave me a right mouthful so I calmly told her she maybe should develop some social skills given she was on the front desk 😳

I spoke to the head teacher of ‘my school’ who said she’d deal with it. Miraculously, over the next couple of weeks the doors were unlocked and she was not in the office as I walked passed. Result

Today was my last day as the school are moving back to their original premises after half term and I did something a little immature. In the foyer at the entrance is a photograph of all the school staff and their names, there was no-one around. Without thinking I got out my sharpie and drew a moustache and angry eyebrows on the picture of this person. Under her name I wrote ‘Miss Funsucker’. I did chuckle about it for the rest of the day but now I feel a bit bad and anxious I will get into trouble- it wouldn’t take Sherlock Holmes to work out it was me 😬

should I do nothing or should I do something - if so what? I know it’s a long shot but has anyone else done this?

No clearly, but it should stop her being hired to work in schools with impressionable children looking to her for guidance

But you have no idea how I perform at my job! I’m great with guidance and the perfect person for what I do (not my words, feedback from various sources). I had finished for the day, there was no one about, so took the opportunity. This is entirely unrelated to what I’m paid to do

I'm sorry. Are you in England? It's 2026, and you believe the police will investigate and then successfully charge the OP with criminal damage for such a low value case like this, and furthermore the CPS will waste their time trying to prosecute? Righttt...

Exactly 👍

Why did you feel the need? It was sorted. Surely, you're better than that?

I think this is brilliant actually, and I bet most of the people critisising you wish they had the guts to do the same!

Wish I had the guts to bully and name call someone who has already been disciplined about their work and modified their behaviour?

Nope, not in your "most people" on that.

I think generally yes I am better than that and have been for the last 28 or so years. I didn’t feel any need, I hadn’t thought about it, it wasn’t premeditated. An opportunity presented itself and I just did it. Good news is I probably won’t do this again

Of course I have, but there’s none in the foyer

Id say foyer is the main pace security camera would be
Not to mention the fact they will likely have you on CCTV approaching the foyer and leaving

But unless you have been to the building and inspected for cameras you couldn’t possibly know this. Can we all move on from the CCTV please? It’s obvious it was me anyway! And I don’t think law enforcement will be involved where evidence will need to be present

I'm sure they do Op. And I'm sure most of the kids will find this hilarious. No idea why you've had such a hard time on here, I think it's hilarious and that battleaxe had it coming. 👌

I think I would have left it with the moustache and angry eyebrows. ‘Mrs Funsucker’ is just a step too far 😂

And the Police wouldn't have any interest in this. Blimey, it's not like you put nails in her tyres or a brick through the window! I bet everyone who has seen it has had a chuckle.

MargoLivebetter · 20/10/2026 16:03

Why did you post @Saracopp ?

You are either a first time MN poster or you have name changed specifically for this post. You clearly aren't soliciting for opinions as to whether or not you should or should not do anything about what you did (or did not do) as your replies suggest a conviction that the woman whose image you defaced deserved it and you were entirely justified and that far from getting into trouble, the Head Teacher probably does know and would find it amusing. And you are so brilliant at your job that they wouldn't want to lose you regardless.

You are certain that you are not on CCTV camera and were so sure of that you took time to take a photo of your artistic handywork yourself. Not even just a hasty scribble but you took the time to do an artistic curly wurly moustache!

And yet you started out by saying that it wouldn't take Sherlock Holmes to work out it was you and you were anxious that you would get into trouble.

What is "your truth"?!

Why create the thread then?

I’ve written that in the final couple of lines of the post. I’m not sure I understand the correlation between creating a thread on mumsnet and the level of judgement, but I guess maybe that’s what I should have expected

I’ve known people lose their jobs over much less to be honest.

So many replies on this thread but its all fake. The poster started another contentious thread a while ago and gave similar replies in what is a very distinctive style of writing.

Besides, nobody could be so stupid as to claim they are professional and good at their job whilst at the same time claiming to have done something so juvenile.

That's some pretty black and white thinking there. Of course mature professionals who are excellent at their job can behave like a juvenile on occasion. Omg I'm leaving this thread. The responses here are beyond ridiculous. Must be AI because surely no actual human being would think like this 🤔

What is "your truth"?!

I created the post for two reasons, both of which are in the last couple of lines of my op.

  1. to see if others felt I should or shouldn’t do anything. A lot of replies were to deny everything and not say a word. I have agreed with these comments and responded accordingly.
  2. to explore on the off chance that others had done something similar, there are indeed a couple of posts where people have, again I have responded accordingly.

my level of anxiety I think was a knee jerk response as it had only just happened within a couple of hours of me posting and I don’t normally behave like this. It was out of character for me. This is now over 24 hours ago and my anxiety has dissipated. I no longer feel anxious and although it was silly thing to do, I have more clarity. There are far more important things going on for everyone in both a professional and personal capacity to give this a second thought really.

my truth? I guess that’s what is important to me. These things include honesty, integrity, doing the right thing and treating everyone with value and respect.

I realise I didn’t show great integrity in my actions, but I’m not perfect and what’s done is done.
