Did something a bit silly at work

I regularly visit schools for my job. One school had to change premises to a larger school site whilst building works were being undertaken on the original school building.

The support staff of the new building were unpleasant and unfriendly- possibly because they didn’t want to share their building with another school.

Each week for the past nine months or so I’ve experienced unpleasantness with one particular member of staff on the front desk. Things like deliberately keeping me waiting to let me in and out of the building (she would pretend she wasn’t in the office, but I could see her in the reflection of one of the windows, she thought she was out of sight), abrupt manner, unhelpful, not passing on messages, rolling eyes because she has to get out of her chair to press a button to release the door, huffing because my mere presence is an inconvenience etc, you get the picture.

A couple of weeks ago we had a slight altercation, she was scowling as usual as I arrived and I asked her if everything was ok as she seemed quite unhappy to see me. She immediately became defensive and gave me a right mouthful so I calmly told her she maybe should develop some social skills given she was on the front desk 😳

I spoke to the head teacher of ‘my school’ who said she’d deal with it. Miraculously, over the next couple of weeks the doors were unlocked and she was not in the office as I walked passed. Result

Today was my last day as the school are moving back to their original premises after half term and I did something a little immature. In the foyer at the entrance is a photograph of all the school staff and their names, there was no-one around. Without thinking I got out my sharpie and drew a moustache and angry eyebrows on the picture of this person. Under her name I wrote ‘Miss Funsucker’. I did chuckle about it for the rest of the day but now I feel a bit bad and anxious I will get into trouble- it wouldn’t take Sherlock Holmes to work out it was me 😬

should I do nothing or should I do something - if so what? I know it’s a long shot but has anyone else done this?

I think that since the situation had improved since your manager spoke to them it was totally unnecessary. Yes I can see why you'd still carry bad sentiment about someone who was routinely rude but the behaviour had changed so you could be assured that she wouldn't no longer be rude.
I think that once they see the vandalism, they'll be more concerned about it being on display/ who's seen it than taking any personal offence. It's very unprofessional and I would expect more from school staff.

However long did she keep you waiting that it made you late? You complained about her then she stopped the behaviour. But you then had to act like a child.

I am actually a little concerned as that isnt normal behaviour

about 5 minutes in the rain, then a further few minutes to get into the building ( there are two doors) - same when exiting

Well normal is quite subjective isn’t it, although I do tend to agree with you in this instance

What was the point of posting if you shoot down anyone who disagrees with you

Saracopp · 20/10/2026 15:34

Completely agree, it was sorted. I behaved in a completely reckless manner which was unnecessary and possibly unwarranted. I guess that’s just who I am. As I’ve previously said I’m a great person about 90% of the time, but we all have our weaknesses. I guess defacing pictures of people who have wronged me is one of mine

Only my husband

Yeah I'd be careful on the subject of your husband..he's quite nice looking!

I've been on mumsnet for a very long time and this is probably the most insane thread I've ever come across. The amount of people upset by it is crazy! And then people are digging around on Google trying to work out the school and who the OP is. My gawd people, get a fookin' life!

Of course there’s CCTV in the foyer.

Of course there is. Although earlier she claimed there was a "blind spot" 🤔, of course!

Haven’t shot anyone down? I’ve answered questions honestly. It’s not my fault if people don’t like the answers

Been over this. Validation is not what I need. A medical professional perhaps but not validation

Criminal damage may not look good on a DBS check.
Actions carry consequences either now or in the future. I always suggest never doing anything w bad intention..

This really is getting silly now. The OP drew a moustache and eyebrows on a photo and added a silly name - that's hardly going to get her whisked off to the local nick on a criminal damage charge ! 🤣🤣🤣.

Really? There are lots of schools and don’t believe this to be a one off incident. I’m sure as bizarre as it seems I’m not the only person to draw a curly moustache and angry eyebrows on a picture of a rather unsavoury character

DBS checks don’t show bad behaviour, just convictions. I admit I can be badly behaved at times but I am a law abiding citizen with a squeaky clean enhanced DBS

If the Head had bought it up today and asked directly (you said people would work out it was you, upthread) would you have admitted it?

No clearly, but it should stop her being hired to work in schools with impressionable children looking to her for guidance

Ooh good question. Yes I would have admitted it to the HT yes, but only because I’m confident in her integrity and I know she doesn’t want to lose me visiting her school. Realistically she’s very likely to know already and has chosen not to bring it up with me.

I'm sorry. Are you in England? It's 2026, and you believe the police will investigate and then successfully charge the OP with criminal damage for such a low value case like this, and furthermore the CPS will waste their time trying to prosecute? Righttt...

blondeseaside · 20/10/2026 15:51

I think this is brilliant actually, and I bet most of the people critisising you wish they had the guts to do the same!
