Did something a bit silly at work

I regularly visit schools for my job. One school had to change premises to a larger school site whilst building works were being undertaken on the original school building.

The support staff of the new building were unpleasant and unfriendly- possibly because they didn’t want to share their building with another school.

Each week for the past nine months or so I’ve experienced unpleasantness with one particular member of staff on the front desk. Things like deliberately keeping me waiting to let me in and out of the building (she would pretend she wasn’t in the office, but I could see her in the reflection of one of the windows, she thought she was out of sight), abrupt manner, unhelpful, not passing on messages, rolling eyes because she has to get out of her chair to press a button to release the door, huffing because my mere presence is an inconvenience etc, you get the picture.

A couple of weeks ago we had a slight altercation, she was scowling as usual as I arrived and I asked her if everything was ok as she seemed quite unhappy to see me. She immediately became defensive and gave me a right mouthful so I calmly told her she maybe should develop some social skills given she was on the front desk 😳

I spoke to the head teacher of ‘my school’ who said she’d deal with it. Miraculously, over the next couple of weeks the doors were unlocked and she was not in the office as I walked passed. Result

Today was my last day as the school are moving back to their original premises after half term and I did something a little immature. In the foyer at the entrance is a photograph of all the school staff and their names, there was no-one around. Without thinking I got out my sharpie and drew a moustache and angry eyebrows on the picture of this person. Under her name I wrote ‘Miss Funsucker’. I did chuckle about it for the rest of the day but now I feel a bit bad and anxious I will get into trouble- it wouldn’t take Sherlock Holmes to work out it was me 😬

should I do nothing or should I do something - if so what? I know it’s a long shot but has anyone else done this?

Another made up post!

Undahpressurah · 20/10/2026 00:01

No one uses ‘Ms funsucker’ as an insult in the year 2026. It’s like something my grandma would have said - and she was 95 when she died a few years ago! It’s a curiously Enid Blyton phrase.
‘Oh Gwendoline, stop being such a fun sucker and come and eat your potted meat sandwich at the midnight feast!’.

No one is going to think it’s a Gen Alpha kid writing it on the board. No one.

CrazyMidget · 20/10/2026 00:05

Yeah, this is definitely immature, OP. It's not my sort of humour. But I hope there are no cameras and that you get away with it! And...really, don't do anything like that again! At least, not in anything connected to your job!

Eh? That was never in Enid Blyton books, and it wasn't around in my under-25 years. (Am in my fifties.) I think it's quite a modern phrase! Or Fun Sponge, as my sister says.

InterestedDad37 · 20/10/2026 00:11

Unprofessional, immature, but very funny 🤣🤣🤣 hopefully cathartic, and 🤞 no comebacks.

I didn’t mean it literally was in an Enid blyton book. Just that it’s an old fashion turn of phrase. No kid today is using ‘fun sucker’ as an insult for an adult. They say stuff is ‘cringe’ or (charmingly) ‘dog water’ or some other rubbish. Similarly with ‘fun sponge’ - no one but the middle aged and elderly would say that as an insult.

Anarchy99 · 20/10/2026 00:18

Assuming this is real, this was spiteful and unprofessional. You had already tackled her and told her boss and she had improved.

Not clever or funny. That sort of conduct would lead to being sacked in many of the jobs I have done. Given there are going to be security cameras everywhere, you will be found out and you may lose your job as a result.

Still, as long as you had a good laugh 🙄

JoeSikoraTommysStory · 20/10/2026 00:34

I’d hazard a guess the woman on the foyer desk isn’t a nice person so could be anyone really or even one of the parents/kids 🤣 DENY all knowledge @Saracopp she had it coming!

Holidaymodeon · 20/10/2026 00:50

Good god op, your responses are as humourless as your tepid act of pointless vandalism.
the way you write it sounds like it’s the naughtiest thing you’ve ever done. I don’t understand the insult, you were going there to work, she sometimes didn’t answer the door straight away and in the end you had a minor fracas so in retaliation you called her ‘miss funsucker’ ?
from where was she sucking the fun?
When and where in any of your visits to her reception area at school, her place of work , were you expecting fun which she subsequently sucked out?
if you’re as ‘zany’ as you seem to think you are, perhaps she found dealing with you quite a strain , hence her hesitation in welcoming you each time?
when you challenged her about her attitude, maybe she finally snapped? I don’t know, I didn’t read all your posts but in a few you go into great detail about many things but none in the early posts about the content of your argument/ heated conversation before you defaced the school’s property .

I’m getting 50/50 vibes between the woman and the OP.

FlorenceLawrence · 20/10/2026 00:52

Well I thought it was funny! It's pretty harmless, as petty revenge for rudeness goes. But I'm also in my 50s and DGAF anymore.
Her fellow funsuckers out in force on MN tonight though.
(Well done OP 😂)

Becuriousnotjudgemental1980 · 20/10/2026 01:02

This made me giggle!! 🤭

AmnesiacDream · 20/10/2026 01:03

I see the temptation, and while of course it's unprofessional and immature, I can also see the funny side of it.

I don't think there's anything you can do about it (other than take a picture and find a way to release it anonymously onto social media, but that's probably not what you actually meant!). Just deny it if questioned, be glad you're back at the old site again and never accept work from the school whose site you were sharing.

Happyjoe · 20/10/2026 01:15

Well, if Miss Funsucker is the same with other members of staff as she is with you I think you're going to give quite a lot of people a giggle tomorrow.

Yeah, sure it's immature but hey, sometimes that feels darn fine. You're hardly going to get sacked, but you may be made to apologise if get caught and that's gonna hurt!!

The more you post the more you're coming across as a narcissist, who's just had a taste of her own medicine. Your responses don't reflect the cool caring demeanour you're trying to portray.

Edited

Yep, the op couldn’t stand that someone she saw as subservient wasn’t racing around to open doors etc.

If she truly had the confidence she’s claiming then there’s no way she’d lower herself to such pathetic revenge. Not smart or witty, more sad and over-reactive. Narcissism is built on deep insecurity, hence why the op has dedicated an entire evening to reading and responding to everything when apparently she’s very important.

I don't know who's posts you read but she doesn't come over as being narcissistic. She's confident, slightly sarcastic (on the naff responses) and not stupid.

And she can't win can she? People post on here and don't come back and folk complain. She reads and responds and she's a narcissist!

People on MN seem to try and find fault, no matter if plucked out of thin air, it's very strange.

CorvusPurpureus · 19/10/2026 23:36

‘Ms Funsucker’?! That’s not even funny.

You scrawling on her photograph like an angry y8 who has had his phone confiscated is juvenile, sure, but it’s also such a peculiar thing for a professional adult to do, that it might well come across as mildly unhinged.

If you don’t intend to return to that particular school, then it’s one way to burn a bridge.

Meanwhile, being a peri who is noted on the circuit to be decidedly odd & unprofessional is your problem. You said in your OP that you were worried about getting into trouble.

Well, that’s your trouble. Future potential gigs noting that you are the sort of supposed adult that defaces colleagues’ professional photos & then boasts about it on social media.

You can’t do much about the photo graffiti, but I’d be getting this deleted if any of it happens to have, well, actually happened.

Exactly this 👆🏻👆🏻👆🏻

sideorderofgossip · 20/10/2026 01:41

@Saracopp I think you’ll be fine, they wouldn’t think a ‘professional’ adult would stoop so low! 😂

AliCatWalk · 20/10/2026 01:42

Interesting choice of moniker you ascribed to this woman 🤔 taking a long time to open the door = "fun-sucking"?

Thank you!! I too had questions as to the alleged Fun being Sucked 😂

EdinaTheConfessor · 20/10/2026 02:03

They’ll assume it was one of the kids. TBF if she’s like that with you she will be like it with everyone so has probably made a lot of enemies.

Can we be friends?!!

It's nothing to do with filters, it's just unkind. You dint have to stoop to others levels.

Ella31 · 20/10/2026 02:31

Saracopp · 19/10/2026 21:00

Well you’re half right, I may get into trouble but it wouldn’t be deserved

It would be deserved. Yes the staff member was not the nicest to deal with, but you crossed a line. I'm suprised you work with schools, I do too, this would be taken very seriously.

Ella31 · 20/10/2026 02:41

Waitingfordoggo · 19/10/2026 21:19

No you didn’t.

You shared it because you thought it was funny, and now you’re embarrassed that the reaction is not what you hoped it would be. I’m cringing myself inside-out to be honest.

Exactly. I've never understood people setting out to humilate others. I work in education, I know plenty that haven't been the most friendly and been on the receiving end of nasty behaviour the odd time in my teaching career, but it never would occur to me to deface something that I know would cause hurt even to someone I didnt like. Pathetic tbh.
