Did something a bit silly at work

I regularly visit schools for my job. One school had to change premises to a larger school site whilst building works were being undertaken on the original school building.

The support staff of the new building were unpleasant and unfriendly- possibly because they didn’t want to share their building with another school.

Each week for the past nine months or so I’ve experienced unpleasantness with one particular member of staff on the front desk. Things like deliberately keeping me waiting to let me in and out of the building (she would pretend she wasn’t in the office, but I could see her in the reflection of one of the windows, she thought she was out of sight), abrupt manner, unhelpful, not passing on messages, rolling eyes because she has to get out of her chair to press a button to release the door, huffing because my mere presence is an inconvenience etc, you get the picture.

A couple of weeks ago we had a slight altercation, she was scowling as usual as I arrived and I asked her if everything was ok as she seemed quite unhappy to see me. She immediately became defensive and gave me a right mouthful so I calmly told her she maybe should develop some social skills given she was on the front desk 😳

I spoke to the head teacher of ‘my school’ who said she’d deal with it. Miraculously, over the next couple of weeks the doors were unlocked and she was not in the office as I walked passed. Result

Today was my last day as the school are moving back to their original premises after half term and I did something a little immature. In the foyer at the entrance is a photograph of all the school staff and their names, there was no-one around. Without thinking I got out my sharpie and drew a moustache and angry eyebrows on the picture of this person. Under her name I wrote ‘Miss Funsucker’. I did chuckle about it for the rest of the day but now I feel a bit bad and anxious I will get into trouble- it wouldn’t take Sherlock Holmes to work out it was me 😬

should I do nothing or should I do something - if so what? I know it’s a long shot but has anyone else done this?

My good points outweigh my bad ones

That is not for you to say.

tamade · 20/10/2026 03:09

Pretty sure OP will "get away" with this imaginary mischief. making up a story about something that could have happened and then posting it on MN and then arguing with posters about it with 3 pages of OP responses is pretty mad. Inventing a further story about consequences would be truly batshit.

NiftyKoala · 20/10/2026 03:40

Hmm interesting...

Behaviour like this would be considered very unprofessional and would likely lead to a disciplinary or gross misconduct proceedings in my field, quite possibly in yours too OP.
IF this is real, you should be concerned

Saracopp · 19/10/2026 21:07

I completely agree, hopefully she will be caught out for her bullying. That’s assuming you realise bullying is systemic. My retaliation was a one off, I’m not the bully here

She’s a grumpy receptionist, put out because there’s another school camping out in the building and presumably doubling her work. I don’t see any ‘bullying’.

SparkleHorse82 · 20/10/2026 04:50

God even in my forties I’m such a goody two shoes that this has made me feel queasy with nerves for you. Why on earth did you do that? You could definitely be sacked. So unprofessional!

OtterlyAstounding · 20/10/2026 05:06

r/thathappened

On the off-chance it did actually happen, I presume you must be 5-years-old, both to have thought to do it, and to consider it funny.

Wisefishswimpast · 20/10/2026 05:14

I personally thought funsucker was mild

Littlegreywolfcub · 20/10/2026 05:50

Altodela · 19/10/2026 21:14

The vitriol in these responses 🥱

i think it’s hilarious 😆

😂😂

I know right??

The OP is getting a worse telling off than she will in real life!

The receptionist sounds like a total bitch and I think she got off lightly with 'funsucker'.

Remember the clip off Fried Green Tomatoes where the older woman without a filter gets a parking space the illegal way? Similar but A LOT more destructive.

People on here need to unclench and possibly have a laugh?

Tamtim · 20/10/2026 05:55

Saracopp · 19/10/2026 20:54

No I’m in my 50’s, I’ve lost my filters and try and amuse myself these days

That right there is a perfect explanation. Why should women put up and shut up and behave themselves always? I wouldn’t have the guts to do it, but you gave me a good laugh, thank you. She shouldn’t be such an unhelpful grump.

FleurDeFleur · 20/10/2026 05:57

The CCTV will have caught you! It's everywhere in schools. Good luck!

FleurDeFleur · 20/10/2026 05:59

Saracopp · 19/10/2026 22:39

I think complaints had possibly been made. On one occasion where she refused to let me in, one of the TA’s from ‘my school’ happened to be passing and let me in with her fob. She said you’ll be waiting forever if I hadn’t seen you! We exchanged a few words about said person and the TA said please do say something (to HT) ‘nobody will listen to us’. I’m fairly sure I’ve done a good service here, regardless of potential repercussions

I don't understand why you haven't been given a fob if you need access to the building?

FleurDeFleur · 20/10/2026 06:02

Saracopp · 19/10/2026 20:57

I wouldn’t say it was convenient. It was more about positioning and blind spots

Of course.

FleurDeFleur · 20/10/2026 06:03

What are you "freelancing" at a school as?

FleurDeFleur · 20/10/2026 06:05

Saracopp · 19/10/2026 22:13

I’m great at my job thanks, that’s why I don’t need references

You don't need references? Ok.

Wadsworthy · 20/10/2026 06:14

Good Lord, not funny at all. Just asinine.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 20/10/2026 06:38

Saracopp · 19/10/2026 21:00

Well you’re half right, I may get into trouble but it wouldn’t be deserved

You’re delusional. It will 100% be deserved, you have acted terribly - what an example to set to kids you’re supposed to be teaching

itwasntme2019 · 20/10/2026 06:46

Hahahaha this really tickled me 😂

I doubt very much she's a teacher!

Superhansrantowindsor · 20/10/2026 06:54

If this really happened then it’s a very nasty thing to do.

popdepop · 20/10/2026 06:54

Petty and unprofessional. If she was doing what you say she was, you’ve certainly lowered yourself to her standards. You never know what’s going on in people’s lives. Always be kind. It will come back on you OP.

This is the kind of threat that could be picked up by for trashy magazine story

Hobnobswantshernameback · 20/10/2026 06:56

Imagine having so little to do and so little imagination
God I miss the days when the funny stuff on here was .... well ......funny as well as at least a smidge believable

ZookRail · 20/10/2026 06:58

Whilst I find what the OP did, immature and unprofessional, I am a little envious of people like her and some on here who find this stuff funny. It must be great to be so easily amused. OP and others who find this funny are probably the kind of people who genuinely ROFL at posts and can’t breathe and spit their tea out and wake the baby etc when reading about antics like this. Life must be so much more enjoyable if you have such a basic level of humour!

Saracopp · 20/10/2026 06:58

Ella31 · 20/10/2026 02:31

It would be deserved. Yes the staff member was not the nicest to deal with, but you crossed a line. I'm suprised you work with schools, I do too, this would be taken very seriously.

Yes it certainly was deserved. I was there you weren’t. She crossed the line and maybe I did eventually

Isthisit22 · 20/10/2026 06:58

It makes you look childish and slightly unhinged, but more concerning is your pages of insisting (in the face of popular opinion) that you are hilarious. It’s all a bit weird.
