Adults at petting zoos/farms/kids days out

1000 replies

ExtraHotDoubleShot · 19/10/2026 12:42

Has anyone else noticed a massive uptick in grown adults (many in late teens and 20s) going on days out aimed at kids/young families? I’m finding it increasingly irritating - small children having to queue behind grown adults to stroke rabbits or see tanks of fish.

(Exception where there is clearly a disability at play)

Because it encourages them to infantilise themselves. We’re adults for gods sake 😂

Please explain to me what is childish about feeding a coati.

I didn’t get the opportunity to go on the teacup rides, doesn’t mean I’m going to do it at 35!

Maybe you should. Dislodge that giant pole up your arse

PGmicstand · 20/10/2026 17:48

There's nothing childish with wanting to see and interact with animals. You're being utterly ridiculous.
What is really childish is adults judging other adults on how they spend their time and money when it doesn't affect them at all.

Sirzy · 20/10/2026 17:51

We have care homes locally who regularly have visits from things like alpaccas.

Animals can be very therapeutic to many, why should that have an age limit?

No kids around at the time of petting.

That is so cute.

I want to go to a petting zoo place now. There is one near me. Goats, meercats, sheep, all the fluffy things. Any kid near me is going to get punted into a bin my my hip 😂

nomas · 20/10/2026 15:23

So you are inherently better because you get your joy from seeing your child pet the rabbit?

And most of the petting zoos have lots of animals. And many people live nearby.

Why am I inherently better? What are you talking about? I just said I would not do it on my own as an adult. I would go to these places if my kids wanted to, not because I want to. Why does that make me better?

You should give it a go, it's actually fun.

As long as there are no rules prohibiting certain groups of people then it's ok for them to have their turn and if it means a child has to wait then so be it. It's good for children learn about patience and turn taking too.

NCOneDayOnly · 20/10/2026 18:19

As an aside, why does the OP think her job is paying for other adults' farm admissions?

Because she's clearly unable to think straight after getting ratioed to fuck on the AIBU poll - is my guess.

MyLimeGuide · 20/10/2026 18:44

Thankyou for your thread op 👏 its been very entertaining im pleased to see its still going 😄

Just a thought, OP...

By any chance, do you work in a school, on reception, and is there a portrait of you up in the foyer, sporting a 'tache and angry eyebrows?

😂

I saw adult couples and older adults with their grown up kids rushing to be first in the queue when they called the goat walk. Ill admit I did think, you sad bastards 😬

Sad bastard is pretty much what I’m thinking about you too

WestwardHo1 · 20/10/2026 19:02

I think it's really obvious why the OP started the thread and has been so obnoxious. She took her children to a petting zoo and they had to wait their turn behind adults with no kids and made a fuss about having to queue. Then the OP started this thread expecting everyone to agree with her. And they haven't.

Me too. This thread has inspired me to go to more farms /petting zoos etc on my own. What are people’s favourites? There’s a great one in Hampshire called Miller’s Ark. Love the baby goats!

Easterchicken · 20/10/2026 19:16

Wasn't aware that animals were only got the enjoyment of young children.

Make sure you barge any pesky kids out of the way as you run for the queue to pet the bunnies

JustMeHello · 20/10/2026 19:41

Op reminds me of a colleague I had years ago who frequently moaned about how grown up knickers should only come in plain white, lacy black or lacy red, and anything else was childish. I told her I'd stencilled some pink glitter dalek knickers and she went off on one and brought it up dozens more times to say how ridiculous I was. Clearly madness, as I was the one with the cool pants and she wasn't.

ExtraHotDoubleShot · 19/10/2026 12:59

I mean when there’s limited spaces as part of an activity, it’s a bit sad and selfish for an adult to take a place when a kid is waiting

The kid is only waiting though, they will also get their turn so no one misses out. I‘m guessing either your children or you aren‘t very good at queuing. When we used to take the kids to petting zoos it didn‘t bother me at all who was in the queue in front of us, be that adults or kids.
Btw, in your mind, what is the age at which it will no longer be acceptable for your kids to go to a petting zoo or ride a teacup?

She sounds awful. Who gives a fuck what underwear other people are wearing? That is just really weird.

Absolutely - they’re perfectly within their rights. But I think it’s a bit sad and silly.

Judging by the vote outcomes and the comments, it seems you're the sad and silly one here....

Girlsjustwannahavefunno1 · 20/10/2026 20:27

No it never occurred to me that a strange woman on the internet would tell other adults what to do. They aren't just for kids. Else why would there be adult ticket prices . Perhaps some people just enjoy indulging their inner child , its comforting or they just really like animals. Kids have to learn that they don't always come first , have to behave, consider others and queue . So what if they have to wait ...so do all the other kids !

Dilau23 · 20/10/2026 20:29

SiegfriedSassoon · 19/10/2026 13:14

Having had my children over 17 years, it's definitely changed a lot in terms of more childless adults going to places that traditionally were more aimed at children. For example, when we first started going to Centre Parcs 17 years ago it was very wholesome, simple and family orientated. But I wouldn't go there now as the market has changed and I don't want to be around the people that frequent it now.

Look at all the adults that go to Disney with no children, and are happy for little kids to be waiting their turn while grown adults preen and pose with the characters for photos.

I'd feel very silly making children wait to pet a rabbit while I, a woman in my 40s, sat and had my turn. But each to their own and they are perfectly within their rights to do so.

I do think adults have become more childish. MIL and her friends have become quite strange in recent years, going to escape rooms and theme parks. And yet 20 years ago she had much more adult pursuits like watercolouring and going to Chelsea flower show. It's peculiar. I wonder if people are regressing as a stress response to life.

Edited

Sounds to me like MIL and friends have realised there is more to life than only participating in activities deemed to be socially acceptable and genteel enough for their age but in actual fact aren’t that fun at all. Why should all people of a certain age be expected to like Flower Shows, painting and visiting stately homes? I think Escape Rooms and Theme parks sound much more appealing.
People aren‘t behaving childishly, we as a society have just removed the social restraints that meant we had to move on to more restrained activities as we got older. These made up constraints are what makes people think certain activities are childish. It‘s probably also the reason why people look younger for longer now because they no longer have to give up their sense of style and can continue to follow trends if they wish whatever their age rather than moving on to cardigans and a shampoo and set.
