Adults at petting zoos/farms/kids days out

ExtraHotDoubleShot · 19/10/2026 12:42

Has anyone else noticed a massive uptick in grown adults (many in late teens and 20s) going on days out aimed at kids/young families? I’m finding it increasingly irritating - small children having to queue behind grown adults to stroke rabbits or see tanks of fish.

(Exception where there is clearly a disability at play)

There wasn't much around like that when I was a kid (in my 40's) so to me it's a pass time you do with kids
But young people in their late teens and early 20s, they were raised on this stuff. To them it's a standard fun day out. And what a great alternative to the options I had of going to the pub or drinking in a field somewhere.

I do not understand what is wrong with adults having some fun - even childish fun - in their lives! There is plenty of depressing, stressful, worrying stuff in our lives - why deny ourselves some joy?

I’m not saying trample babies underfoot as you rush to feed a goat or pet a rabbit - but I see no reason why these things should just be for children.

I'm in my 40's and only remember one farm place we went to as kids where we got to interact with animals. One of the reasons I take great pleasure in all the places you can do this now.

Some people just aren't interested in animals and that's fine, but they don't get to dictate to the rest of us!

Also, these places wouldn't last long without adults paying.

OP is one of those people whose entire reason for existence becomes subsumed by her kids. She looks at everything through the frame of her kids making memories and is then threatened by adults living their lives without her frame of reference.

No it never occurred to me that a strange woman on the internet would tell other adults what to do. They aren't just for kids. Else why would there be adult ticket prices . Perhaps some people just enjoy indulging their inner child , its comforting or they just really like animals. Kids have to learn that they don't always come first , have to behave, consider others and queue . So what if they have to wait ...so do all the other kids !

Agreed. It’s like OP doesn’t get joy from
petting animals so is bewildered by other adults who do.

What am I reading? I thought your first message was bad enough but the ones that follow are just as bad! I have children and would it no way begrudge anyone of having a day out if they have also paid money! How bloody entitled are you!

I saw adult couples and older adults with their grown up kids rushing to be first in the queue when they called the goat walk. Ill admit I did think, you sad bastards 😬

Whats a grown up kid? My youngest is 15 oldest 31 can I still take youngest to see animals, he's taller than me and eldest does that make a difference? We go to the zoo a few times a year, should we stop? Does your 4 year old let all the 2 year old go before her?
Please clarify the rules cos I'm confused.

Back on the thread that keeps giving. I'd just like to say that I enjoy language, and the way that it can be used to generate sentences that have never been seen since the dawn of time. Flexibility, adaptability, etc.

"getting ratioed to fuck on the AIBU poll" That's one! Thanks PP.

Apologies for the apparent duplicate.

And let's try again! Some alpacas who live in a paddock next door to my sister in Shropshire. I'm pretty sure they're not bred for food. Maybe her grown neighbours pat them.

Thanks! Aren't they just? They do help to maintain the hedge between the properties. Here's another pic...

It's rediculous that you are selfish enough to think these places are only for adults with kids!
I saw a similar argument on another page a grandparent thinking Disneyland Paris should only allow those with children to enter the park. No adults on their own, couples or adult groups

Op reminds me of a colleague I had years ago who frequently moaned about how grown up knickers should only come in plain white, lacy black or lacy red, and anything else was childish. I told her I'd stencilled some pink glitter dalek knickers and she went off on one and brought it up dozens more times to say how ridiculous I was. Clearly madness, as I was the one with the cool pants and she wasn't.

Actually why do pants come in boring colours?
Men get better choices of colours in boxers!

XenaSharples · 21/10/2026 01:16

Your children don't matter any more than anyone else. The age of the people in front of you is none of your business.

ExtraHotDoubleShot · 19/10/2026 12:54

I find it really petulant towards small children. But ok!

One would expect an adult to know what petulant means, and how to use it. Seems not. Or perhaps this is a reverse and it's actually being written by a disgruntled 4 year old.

Ohitsnicehere · 21/10/2026 02:18

I know someone who loved handling different animals so much, that he made it his career. He’s a very experienced reputable animal handler who takes his animals to events, open days and workshops etc and they are not even fluffy cuddly animals in the main. He loves his lifestyle and having seen him in action just as many adults as children get so much pleasure as well as information about caring for these animals from the sessions. In fact children want to just pet or look at the animals but adults can do that and in addition can absorb information about how some of the animals habitats are being effected by climate change and other factors so objectively it’s more important for adults to interact with these animals.

I didn’t get the opportunity to go on the teacup rides, doesn’t mean I’m going to do it at 35!

You should, it might lighten you up a bit.

Imaginingdragonsagain · 21/10/2026 07:59

Someone up the thread said escape rooms were a childish activity, and theme parks which I find odd. Most escape rooms aren’t aimed at kids and theme parks give a safe adrenaline rush presumably. Or am I weird?

My daughter is in her 40s and I used to take to farm type places when she was a child in South London and Kent in the 80s. Off the top of my head I remember Mudchute Farm, Crystal Palace and some place in Kent I forget the name of.

Getting ratioed to fuck on an AIBU poll is also ironic because @ExtraHotDoubleShot is on another live thread where her pet peeve is posters who don’t accept when they are told they are being unreasonable. Her post is first on the thread and there are hundreds of posts.
