Adults at petting zoos/farms/kids days out

1000 replies

ExtraHotDoubleShot · 19/10/2026 12:42

Has anyone else noticed a massive uptick in grown adults (many in late teens and 20s) going on days out aimed at kids/young families? I’m finding it increasingly irritating - small children having to queue behind grown adults to stroke rabbits or see tanks of fish.

(Exception where there is clearly a disability at play)

Yeah, I wouldn't necessarily get information from tiktok.

Actually I'm not on tic tock - but seen people in media and on you tube commnenting on the phenomenon - and seen them show the clips - they are often funny but there is an underlying point.

It chimes with reports in media that people are buying, marrying and having kids later - and ONS data backs that as well. Also chimes with many young adults being infantliszed which I see with my own eyes.

I seek information from a variety of souces all saying same thing - socially and econicallly we are in west delaying adulthood.

I find it really petulant towards small children. But ok!

I'm not sure you understand what 'petulant' means.😬

The Cambridge Dictionary defines it as "easily angered or annoyed" and the Oxford Learner as "behaving in an angry or sulky way, especially because you cannot do or have what you want" although I suspect the irony is lost on you.

The Oxford Learners Dictionary is available in the children’s department of most good bookshops. You're welcome.

I think marrying and having children later is for a variety of reasons, not least that fertility windows and life expectancy have increased.

Thanks, that wrong usage was so irritating!

I do think adults have become more childish. MIL and her friends have become quite strange in recent years, going to escape rooms and theme parks. And yet 20 years ago she had much more adult pursuits like watercolouring and going to Chelsea flower show.

@SiegfriedSassoon what! You think Escape Rooms aren't for adults? Have you ever done one? I can assure you most kids would probably struggle with some of the Escape rooms we've been in.

5128gap · 19/10/2026 16:41

What would you rather young adults were doing with their time and money? Because paying their entrance fee, which is typically higher than the child price, and which often supports animal welfare activities, and spending time around animals seeks pretty wholesome to me.

Yeah and I'm going to be honest, the Chelsea Flower Show would bore me rigid.

This thread has turned bonkers (but what did I expect)

Everyone has answered ‘AIBU to think adults should be nowhere near animals’ rather than what I actually put

Well we do live a long time these days and probably have 65 years of it, so there's no rush really.

Saw these fellas at the zoo yesterday. Went with my 75 y.o Dad 😁

How lovely! Which zoo is this? This thread makes me want to visit Zoo coming weekend 😉

A lot of very upset Disney adults on this thread…….

Mumofyellows · 19/10/2026 16:45

I bet your children are really entitled if you feel they are so much more important than everyone else. It’s a nice wholesome activity that some adults might enjoy, especially if they do not have animals of their own. Enjoying animals is not childish, it’s probably quite good for your children to see that they are loved by all ages and accept they might have to wait for their turn, and not be allowed to take priority. What a strange view to have!

ZZGirl · 19/10/2026 16:47

How dare people find joy in the things they like... adults... destined to be miserable and bored apparently?

Not even escape rooms it would seem!
Oliver Cromwell would be pleased. Bible reading, tilling the soil and acts of charity only!

I go to work, try to get out of the escape room takes me 12 hours to get out 😆

Well I have answered what you actually put. You asked if it was unreasonable to be irritated by young adults at petting farms. My implied answer was 'yes' because its a harmless and wholesome activity.
If I misread the thrust of your question, and you meant are you U to be irritated that your children have to queue behind young adults, then, that's also 'yes' because they too have paid for the attraction, the attraction has a queuing system for all paying visitors, and your children don't have priority over other paying visitors.

Yes, just finished! Refer to my ‘back later’ post earlier. It’s gone fairly nuclear while I have been away…
