Noisy hotel sex. Why?

Why do people have such noisy sex in hotels? I have just got home from a wedding yesterday, after which I stayed in a hotel. The couple in the next room had vocal sex at 2am and again at 8am. Proper shrieks and moans and grunts and words that I could hear through the wall from both of them, for a good half an hour both times.

Have your fun by all means. But why make so much noise?? I know hotel rooms are private but hotels aren't, especially not in the middle of the night.

AIBU to think it's no less selfish (and quite a bit more unreasonable) than keeping other guests up with music or any other noise. It's not the first time I've been kept awake like this.

We are animals. I don’t agree with DebbieSavage though.

I don't agree with them either. And I'm not engaging with them any more.

I’m in the “it’s rude and inappropriate” camp I’m afraid. I went away to a hotel for a mini break last February and there was a woman there with her partner. She screamed the place down. Multiple times.

Everyone could hear. It really was unnecessary and inconsiderate. No-one wants to hear sex shrieks whilst trying to relax and enjoy the hotel in their own way. And also slightly disheartened at the way people just have no consideration for others these days judging by the “I don’t care, I’ve paid for the room” trope on here. Newsflash - we all have to be considerate to others, and it’s lazy to assume otherwise.

How long does “the moment” last though? OP described screaming for half an hour. Nobody orgasms for 30 solid minutes and the couple in question must have been making a hell of a racket to disturb OP for half an hour.

The debate isn’t really about noisy sex being better. Nobody is disputing that sex is better when you’re relaxed and your guard is down. But you wouldn’t stand under someone’s bedroom window playing a fucking trombone at 2am and expect them to say “Oh you knock yourself out. At least you’re having fun!” You’d expect them to be bloody livid that you’d woken them up. It makes zero difference if it’s a trombone or an orgasm. Nobody wants to be woken by noise in the middle of the night.

Well exactly. Its not the fact they're having sex, its the fact that they're making a fuck ton of noise at 2am. You dont have a right to disturb people's sleep just because you havent shagged properly in a while

We all know couples have sex, but if your going to do it at 2am with people trying to sleep around do it quietly.

"But having had sex with plenty a man, I know for certain that jackhammering for 30 minutes does not feel that good, and if it did we wouldnt be going at it for 30 minutes. Theres no better marker of shite sex than performative screaming"

Completely agree. The only-one-setting jackhammer guys are shit, and they need the screeming bc they wouldn't have a clue what a woman who's actually enjoying herself looks like. It's the same guys who think fingering is just jamming a couple of fingers in and out for a bit. Ugh, I'm getting cystitis just thinking about it 😖

Mostly because some of us cant have noisy sex at home and hotels are places we don't realky care who hears us and noisy sex is fun, A different fun than the quiet type and nice for a change. You did ask. Possibly it is a bit selfish and so what?

Hotels can be noisy for all sorts of reasons l. I never stay in a hotel without good quality ear plugs or noise cancelling headphones

This!

You can have noisey sex in your own home, after all it's your home.

You just choose not to.

People with kids can't. Not that I see that as an excuse to be noisy in hotels instead. It's one of those things you just have to compromise on if you decide to have children imo.

Not if you have neighbours you can't. Having noisy sex when you have people next door is just rude, and inconsiderate, and performative, and attention-seeking.

“Pound me harder Timothy, Ahhhhhhh oooo ahhhh!” Whilst Timmy junior is the other side of the wall is definitely not going to cause long lasting MH issues.

Maybe don't take your kids to a hotel if you don't want them to hear sex noises or anything else your puritan mind thinks is too distasteful for little Sebastian and Tiffany.

Only jealous people who get no sex seem to be upset at the prospect of hearing other people getting their rocks off I find. Same with people who complain about the smell of cannabis smoke, just get a life wow!

Courtesy isn't jealousy. People pay for a restful room, not front-row tickets to your personal life or a cloud of secondhand smoke. Shared spaces require basic respect.

Get a B&B or holiday home. Everybody knows hotels are for hookups and discreet sex without your partner being any the wiser. You are going to be exposed to people just wanting to have a good time. If you can't tolerate that then like I said, there are other options for you.

Horrible people basically then. People cheating.

Yes we are hominids which are basically evolved apes. We aren't special. These rules we make up just to separate ourselves from the other animals in the kingdom are meaningless, we have invented this thing called society with all these 'traditions' and 'laws' but ultimately we are just still part of the animal kingdom. We aren't supposed to feel shame over our bodies, or recoil at the sound of pleasure. That's not what we are about. It's all lies meant to control us. Do you understand?

You sound like a complete idiot

So you don’t want your children to hear it but if other kids do and people have an issue with it they’re prided and tough shit? What a horrible attitude

A hotel room isn’t a shared space.

Of course it is. The hotel room is part of a hotel shared by others. There is no excuse for making a noise that disturbs other guests.

There are some really selfish and frankly stupid posts on here.

Did you mean to be so rude? What part of the point I was making did you struggle with, because I was correct about everything.

OonaStubbs · 19/10/2026 14:26

People should be respectful of others when it comes to noise. That includes loud music, talking/shouting, sex and general banging about.

Having been on MN for a while I can now see how there's so many "I'm alright jack, do as I say not as I do, pull the ladder up" type people there are out there.

Happy to force their ways onto others children but good god never their own.

You are completely missing the point in order to seem cool about having sex. No one cares that your shagging, we care that your keeping us awake.

Lots of animals have a "society", they have hierarchy, they have rules. Apes have rules they follow around mating, animals aren't all shagging each other with pleasurable abandon.

Flamingojune · 19/10/2026 14:49

DebbieSavage · 19/10/2026 10:36

But why is that specifically a problem? Does it actually hurt anybody if they happen to hear your exultation of ecstasy? It's like I said regarding our great ape ancestors, they never seemed to care about it. So somewhere along the line some priest or conservative politician decided that it was wrong to make sex noises and now people are ashamed to be heard. It's the same with clothes, who decided that we needed to wear this fabric to cover up our bits and bobs? These rules are just silly and we as evolved apes aren't meant to live like this. We need to get back to how it used to be and shrug off this thing called 'morality' which basically just exists to stop people feeling good about themselves and having fun.

Its specifically keeping people awake
