Noisy hotel sex. Why?

Why do people have such noisy sex in hotels? I have just got home from a wedding yesterday, after which I stayed in a hotel. The couple in the next room had vocal sex at 2am and again at 8am. Proper shrieks and moans and grunts and words that I could hear through the wall from both of them, for a good half an hour both times.

Have your fun by all means. But why make so much noise?? I know hotel rooms are private but hotels aren't, especially not in the middle of the night.

AIBU to think it's no less selfish (and quite a bit more unreasonable) than keeping other guests up with music or any other noise. It's not the first time I've been kept awake like this.

for me the bonus of hotel sex is being able to let loose! No kids, lie in! Amazing

Cherryicecreamx · 19/10/2026 00:51

I am inclined to agree that if your music would be deemed as too loud, so are you!
Hotel walls don't tend to be very soundproof and I think there is a balance between enjoying yourself and being disrespectful to your neighbors. It's just about being courteous to others, especially in the middle of the night and I also think what if there were children next door! It becomes a point where it feels a bit over the top!

I personally hate other people making any kind of noise that disturbs my peace in any context, but the focus on sex and children in this thread is a red herring.

People getting it on are REALLY not thinking about your children (unless they have a rare paraphilia). Your children, of whose existence they have no knowledge, are simply not the focus of other people's every action. Shocking, right?!

Well my daughters are adults. Shocking right? But strange you think people are only talking about their own kids rather than kids in general at hotels.

Knowing that kids stay in hotels and will be able to hear it and still enjoying being noisy is very weird.

I think this says more about you…grim

No, it says more about people who are happy to subject kids to hearing noisy sex. Grim.

Oh I used to be a right screamer when I was younger ….( thinks back wistfully )😉x

Me, too! Quiet sex meant I wasn't getting much out of it. Can't imagine intimate whispering at the moment of release 😂

Apparently we're uncouth. I'm unconvinced an orgasm is the time for genteel self-control. Perhaps these people's experience of sex is identical to an afternoon tea party?

Chickadiddy · 18/10/2026 14:56

All these supercool PP going on about how great it is to have noisy sex in hotels away from their kids are quite happy to perform in front of other people's kids then.

I remember having switching the TV up to deafening levels once in a hotel when DS was only 6 because the room next had decided to perform for everybody.

Being purposefully loud because " it's fun" and getting a kick out of knowing that everyone can hear you, is forcing others take part .

You wouldn't go into a hotel and blast your music full volume because you are away from your kids and "it's fun" .
That would be antisocial and selfish.
So I call bullshit on those who think it's ok to make a loud noise having sex in a building full of other people.

Perform in front of other kids??? Seriously

SusieSussex · 19/10/2026 01:02

Harry12345 · 19/10/2026 00:36

So you make loud sex noises with your kids in another room? You’re ok with someone watching porn near your kids? I find this attitude really vulgar. I got woken up at age 6 to what can be described as I know now of rough/ screaming sex noises and it really affected me. Young children do not need to hear they noises. Quiet moans are one thing but that’s not what op is describing

Yes, some people are fine with that. Thankfully a minority as it's grim.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 19/10/2026 02:12

I find door slamming. People laughing loudly in corridors, moving from room to room more annoying. Mind you I have not had to hear anyone bonking in a hotel.

Hahaha too bloody true….i mean I loves an afternoon tea … but it’s got to have a bit of “ fizz”…😂 anyway I’m 55 now and paying for all my (very enjoyable) sins as my knees are knackered, so it’s a lot quieter and more genteel now…more of a whimper than a scream 😜… xx

I mean no one has to be noisy during sex, a lot of it is purely performative, I cringe when people scream the place down, and then say they can't help it Hmm like really? It's completely uncontrollable and involuntary?? I dont mean the odd noises or quiet noise but the ones who scream and shout so loud you can hear from miles away its clearly a choice to be that noisy 🤣 I get that a hotel people maybe shouldn't need to avoid being noisy but I think out of basic respect of others in the nearby rooms its reasonable to expect a bit of noise control Grin

I agree. There’s no need for amateur dramatics🤣

Lilypad34 · 19/10/2026 03:27

I travel a lot for work and I’ve heard sex noises in many countries all of them performative screaming. In Turkey I was treated to him making the noise next door thrashing around and grunting. Turkish men give me the ick. In Japan I called the room and the knob actually answered so I said we’re all wondering when you’ll be finished because we’re sick of listening to you. It was an American guy with a Japanese woman she sounded like she was in pain horrible noises. In the US I got woken up thinking there was an earthquake (jet lag brain) because my bed was moving, no it was next door and she was screaming like he’d paid for it so I wrote a note like a score card gave them a 2/10 and said she was clearly faking it and if they made the same noise that night I’d call 911 because she obviously needed medical attention. My work colleagues never seem to get the bonkers, it’s always me. It’s really grim having to hear someone else’s intimate time. You don’t need to scream the place down you just don’t. Most hotels have shit soundproofing just some less shit than others.

TheLastSilverSaint · 18/10/2026 13:38

To be honest, I couldn’t give a shit. I’m really not going to fuck in silence at all times, just on the vague off-chance that one of the hotel rooms near by might contain a random child. Adults are allowed to do adult things in hotel rooms.

You are actually disgusting.

This. There is something seriously wrong with you if you think it’s okay.

Tiredthismorning · 19/10/2026 07:22

Such odd responses from some people.

I get the 'letting your hair down away from the kids' thing. And I'm not talking about a moan or two. In fact, I have been away with friends and their other halves and heard sex before and never felt like it's an issue. Over the summer it happened, in fact. My friend and her husband were obviously at it in our holiday cottage and I heard her come. But it was three seconds and one gasp. It wasn't half an hour of moaning, screaming, saying filthy things. And I don't object to any of that either, just not at 2am when I can hear it!

I don’t see the need to have very noisy sex at all, it’s performative nonsense based on porn.

It's just bad manners.
There is no justification and anyone who argues otherwise is just another example of how selfish our society has become. No regard for anyone else.

I won't stay in hotels now. The last time at a 5* hotel, over £200 a night, our night was disturbed by a person next door with a loud TV on gone midnight. we called reception who spoke to them but it didn't make much difference. We got a £50 refund but the night was ruined.

MrsShawnHatosy · 19/10/2026 08:11

I often find needing to keep quiet enhances the pleasure for me, turns your concentration inward somehow.

DH and I were once kept awake into the small hours by a man talking to his partner in the room next door. He had a very penetrating (no pun intended) voice, in contrast to the woman who was barely audible. We had a long drive the following morning and it was just so annoying. DH went and knocked on the door and asked him to keep it down, he didn’t. We got the night manager involved, he did come and ask the man to be quieter but he just went back to normal volume after the manager had gone. The hotel was full because of a wedding so we couldn’t be moved.

Flamingojune · 19/10/2026 08:17

Why is it always the woman

Askandyforcompo · 19/10/2026 08:32

My number one rule in life is always take earplugs. Number two is always take headphones.

Boolabus · 19/10/2026 08:44

All these people who want really noisy sex and scream to their hearts content when they are away from the kids why don't you rent a lovely remote cottage and go for it. Surely knowing there is no one but the birds and beasts listening to you is far more enjoyable and liberating.

TotaleclipseinFrance · 19/10/2026 08:48

My very worst experience of this is when my father died

My parents were divorced and he was only in his fifties when he died. I was about 30 at this time so an adult.
His mother (my grandmother) was still alive.

He'd moved away and we knew he was dying. He was being cared for in his final days by his very caring dp in her house.

My grandmother and I went up in the final few days of his death. (though we'd been up the motorway a lot) and decided to stay in a hotel room with a double bed as no space at his dp's house.

We didn't mind sharing. In fact this was the last thing on our minds, we could have afforded separate rooms but we didn't care.

Anyway, on the night he died there was a couple next door having very noisy sex.

My dad had just died, neither me nor Mam (as I called her) were able to sleep.
The couple were at it for hours.

My grandmother was not a prude but we didn't really talk about sex as such but our guards were down and at one point she said, 'You'd think he'd have finished by now.'

StarlightLady · 19/10/2026 08:55

I still think a lot of noisy hotel sex isn’t people in neighbouring rooms at all. It’s people watching porn with the volume too loud.

With the exception of hitting the big O, l can enjoy a good seeing to without screaming the place down. But l bet l’m getting as much out of it.

Krabappel · 19/10/2026 10:09

Flamingojune · 19/10/2026 08:17

Why is it always the woman

Because men clearly don’t enjoy sex all that much or orgasm like, ever.

If you did, you’d hear it several streets down.

I find all the bragging about loud sex and not caring on this thread very cringeworthy. We get it, you have sex. Invented the orgasm, even. Sheesh.
