To think playing your own music around the hotel swimming pool is really selfish?

Currently on an early half term break with DH, DD and DA (both under 10). We’re staying in a lovely family friendly hotel (heavily advertised as being a family resort) with a pool that has a poolside bar. For the last two days, a group of maybe 4 families has congregated around the pool and have brought their own music speaker and are playing loud rap music while they float in the pool, drinking continuously. I was about to go and - politely - ask them to turn their music off yesterday (it has a lot of swearing and lyrics not appropriate for a family friendly resort) when another guest got there before me and they got very aggressive/ abusive towards him, telling him he was a loser and should ‘get a life, we’re on holiday and enjoying ourselves’. My DH went to the reception to ask if someone could have a word with them but was told that the staff don’t want to be shouted at either so they won’t. AIBU to think this is totally selfish behaviour? Why do they think everyone else wants to listen to their music? Both days so far they have largely ignored their own children and as the day has worn on got increasingly more drunk/ loud/ sweary. What’s wrong with people?!

I know what you're saying but pool is safer, not full of sea creatures and no salt/sand

You say that but I've been attacked by krakens twice in hotel pools.

What country are they from? I wonder if anyone can guess.

Well, not Britain, because no schools are on holiday now, and they sound like they're the kind of parents who care far too much to cause hassle for the school staff by taking them out, Of course, the kids could be under 5, but you'd hope even people like this would be watching them properly if they're that young.

Exactly. In all the lovely hotels I have stayed in recent years the pool closes by 7pm latest

Thanks all! It’s sad that this kind of behaviour seems to be getting more and more common. Interestingly… no sign of the families involved around the pool today so either they’ve left or gone out for the day! It was lovely around the pool today anyway.

For those asking, I don’t want to say exactly where I am but it’s not Europe. Also for those asking, I said ‘early half term’ because our schools have a 2 week half term break too but we did take the kids out a day early to get the flights (price) we wanted.

Loads of UK schools now have two week October half terms and broke up on Friday. People on this thread have literally confirmed this.

Yes they are. Schools broke up here last week. I live in the UK.

What does that have to do with fact with hotels I have stayed in close the pool at 7pm 😕. None of which have been in the UK

Any playing of music in public is ignorant. Put headphones on.

Someone commented asking what time the pool in my hotel closed - I assumed because of the time I was posting (later than 7pm UK time). So it’s relevant that I’m not in the UK, or as I later said, in Europe, because of the time difference. It wasn’t past 7pm where I am.

Every hotel I have stayed in in Europe has closed at 7pm. I can’t even recall the last time I have stayed at a hotel in the UK with a pool! So my point was that it was an odd response to assume that I was talking about hotel in the UK.
My guess… you’re in the US or holiday islands near by. Would explain the reluctance to ask the holiday makers to stop …. Fear of litigation!

Incredibly selfish, rude and ignorant!

It would happen less if I phones had a jack as they used to. Not that it defends such awful behaviour.

A headphone jack would come back on all phones if the government doubled VAT on any without them.
