To think calling yourself ‘bougie’ needs to be banned by law?

Am I behind the times? Where has this come from? I was out with friends today and one kept describing her upcoming, admittedly amazing sounding, holiday as bougie. She was telling us about the upgrades she had added and kept saying ‘I know, I know, I’m so bougie’.

What is this fresh Hell?!

Fascinating stuff ! I second bringing back 'sassy'.
I don't know where I got my version of what a 'bougie' person or thing is but I possibly made a flip of 'bijou' (french for jewel) Like those tiny little fluffy lap/bag poodles (maybe because a client called hers that !) Something a bit expensive or niche (wildly unattainable scented candles, a certain type of decor / style) but maybe that is wide of the mark. Or a derivation of 'boutique' as in hotel, but it's become shorthand for a certain type of experience. But the first 4 letters are the same as 'bourgeois' so that figures 🤷‍♀️
Words, fascinating little beggars aren't they ?
