People having cornflakes in hotels abroad

Oblongtriangle · Today 07:04

I have stayed in many hotels across Europe. Why do many British people have cornflakes for breakfast? The most boring breakfast.
I have different things to what I have at home

I agree! It all seems a bit dull and boring (especially considering the cost of a hotel breakfast….) I always love the spread and variety and treat it as an
Indulgence I wouldn’t ordinarily have. But maybe others have tricky digestion or similar

Or like me they have an eating disorder and stick to their safe foods.
Doesn’t make me dull or boring. The food you eat doesn’t define your personality.

Nothing will surprise me after seeing that Spanish restaurants in Tenerife serve full english breakfast because of all the British tourists

Why is that a problem?

I don't consider cornflakes to be boring. As a kid, we had to eat Weetabix every day for breakfast, 'cos there was a big gang of us and Mam complained that cornflakes were too expensive. Now, THAT's a boring breakfast. When we went on holidays, Mam would buy a box of cornflakes and we'd all be mega excited. Occasionally I have a bowl of cornflakes (when out and about) for nostalgic reasons. I don't usually have a box of them in the house, so it's a novelty for me.

I have no problem eating local food, but if it's available why not have it , cornflakes are great

It's not a problem, it's just baffling that people go to another country just to get drunk by the pool and eat exact same food as they do at home (excluding people with autism, eating disorders etc of course). They have zero interest in exploring local culture and cuisine and clearly it's such a huge market the local restaurants had to adapt

Well, it wouldn't be my thing, but their holiday, their choice.
🤷🏼

Perhaps they have bacon and egg at home and cornflakes are different for them.

As my old mum used to say, 'keep your eyes on your own plate'.

You do you and let others do what they want.

I often think the same as you OP.

I always head straight for the freshly prepared fruit as although I love it I would never be bothered to prepare my own at home.

I think some people are nervous of altering their routine and eating new things in case it affects their digestive system, especially if they’re going out on a tour that day. They may also have health issues that require them to eat or not eat certain things.

It goes without saying that you should eat what you like but I do wonder!

Wonder what?
People can eat what they choose and it's already been explained on here. I think it's judgemental of the OP.

MyGallbladderIsAFucker · Today 11:17

I don't eat cornflakes on holiday or at home purely because don't like them. However, I am somebody who does have to be careful with food and might retort to my old faithful if I'm having an off day because id rather be able to enjoy my day than roll around in bed in pain

GooGooMuckMuck · Today 11:18

If I’m in Greece I’ll have some Greek yoghurt topped with cornflakes and honey. It’s very yummy.

A lot of upset stomachs don't come from poor hygiene though. Many people have delicate stomachs that are capable of being upset without this factor - eg sufferers of IBS, coeliacs, intolerances to name but one or two. A poster above mentioned the unsettling effects of flying, or sometimes just a change of water will suffice. It's more common than you think, especially as you get to middle age.

this. I didn't get to my age without knowing how to manage my digestion (that sounds like Reginald Perrins' boss)

I absolutely loathe cereal regardless of where i am in the world...tasteless cardboard imo

Why do we equate eating habits with personality?

Aussiesgettingsmashed · Today 11:47

I agree. The British are so bloody arrogant only eating English food, expecting everyone to speak English then shouting at poor little Manuel when he doesn’t understand. Sitting in English pubs getting drunk and watching Football.

You know where you are with cornflakes. Holiday is the only time I have them.

What a fine example of prejudice and stereotyping! Would that be acceptable applied to other groups of people....or just the British?.🤔
