Context -

You would just have to press a button and you wouldn't have to see it happen

You would be guaranteed not to know any of them beforehand

No one would know it was you unless you confessed

Yanbu yes
Yabu no

According to the Book of Genesis Noha took his wife and three sons and their wives and let literally everyone else in the world drown. So that's equivalent today of 8 billion deaths to save your family. That's a high bar set by Noha.
Goats get saved, so I'm comfortable with this.

But Noah himself didn’t cause the flood which killed everyone else. He uniquely got the tip off, that the Big Boss on High was going to press the fatal flood button, and Noah was able to save himself, kin, and non human creatures. Is God the baddie in this scenario?

Well, now that changes the lay of the land a bit. Instead of ‘what would Jesus do?’, it’s a bit of an ethical dilemma if you ask ‘what would God do?’ ‘Press the button, of course’ might just be the straightforward answer.

Agree about goats. They always look so much fun, and not a little mischievous. A nanny and a billy near me had two kids about a year ago. The little family are still together. They have a lovely big field, and places to shelter. Their owners have a picnic table, and they love jumping up on it.

SemiRetiredLoveGoddeess · 06/10/2026 21:29

I would do virtually anything for my children. But would consider doing anything for money if the price was right. Starting at about £10 million.

Any offers?

ThatLilacTiger · 06/10/2026 21:30

You don't want to know how far I'd go to save my children. Only them, though.

I'm still reeling after reading about the botched attempted state killing of Christa Pike in Tenessee. Absolutely repulsed by the fact the mother of the murder victim , Colleen Slemmer, was actually present at the execution. Horrible that her daughter was murdered but how does watching someone being murdered by the state make her any better then those who murdered her daughter.
I dont like your thread at all OP.

I can’t imagine the horror, the victims Mother has gone through for all these years .Not just her Daughters life but hers and other family members ruined. How can you judge her actions? Maybe some sort of closure ? We don’t know how we would react in situations. All those years of uncertainty and pain . You’re repulsed at the punishment whereas others are repulsed by what happened to the victim.

I think i would be capable of killing someone if they delibrately or neglectfully killed my DD, but i don't think i'd be capable of active mass murder of inocents to save her.

I was watching a holocaust film recenlty and reflecting on it after and thinking, the decisions I would have made to protect and save others at the risk to myself would change now compared to when i was young and childfree as I would prioritise the protection of my own DD form torture and murder.

Of course I'm repulsed by what happened to the victim!
Just because I don't believe in capital punishment doesn't mean to say I don't also abhor murder and violence!

Yeah, that was a wild statement to me too. May Martinez had to see her daughter’s decapitated skull passed around the courtroom, in pieces because Christa Pike had literally broken her head apart. She had to hear about how her child was tortured and carved into for the best part of an hour before she died. Colleen Slemmer had over 300 knife wounds to her body, and her throat had been cut multiple times. She went to see Christa Pike legally executed, in a manner she was led to believe was going to be quick and humane. There is no comparison between the two.

In the name of empathy for Christa Pike, the PP has demonstrated a complete lack of it for the actual victims in this case. Even the most vehement and vocal death penalty opponents have been careful not to say anything approaching that, because even if they privately felt that way, expressing it would only hurt their cause.

@EmeraldShamrock000

Would people really kill thousands of innocent people to save a loved one?

Ooooh yeah, some people would kill them WITH THEIR BARE HANDS no less. One poster said they would kill NINE billion people to save a few 'loved ones.' Even though there is only 8.3 billion people on the planet! 😆

Even if you killed 1 person per second with your bare hands it would take nearly 300 years to kill 9bn, the replacement rate would just be too high. The population would still grow.

Smoking kills 1 person every 4 seconds and barely has an impact on the population growth.

HamHamHam · 06/10/2026 22:03

I'd probably press it even if it was people in knew to save my daughter

Just try and ignore it

For people who are outraged by answers to a faux scenario I'm quite surprised by the level of vitriol and mocking about your children being in actual danger to the point people around them died. Pretty fucking horrific.

I'm glad your kids were okay and sorry you all went through such a traumatic event.

No. And I say that as someone who has lost the person I loved most.
