Altercation in carpark

Icecreamsundaz · 05/10/2026 13:30

I was in a supermarket carpark, I had put my baby in her carseat and had just loaded my groceries in the boot. A car parked in the parent and child space next to me and an older couple got out, early 70s I would guess, able bodied, no kids with them
I said "sorry do you realise thats s parent and child space" and I pointed to the markings.
Well his response was very rude in tone "I came here to do my shopping, not to dance around" ?? "It should be first come first served " and they stormed off. I was a bit taken aback, I said loudly but they were a bit away at this point so not sure if they heard me "god id hate to be so ignorant". I took a picture of their car. Not really sure what I was going to do with it, thinking I would think about it and perhaps report to management. I got into my car
The next he was at my window "you took a photo, its illeageal to take photos of other people's property, delete it." I ensured my doors were locked, he stood behind my car so I couldn't reverse out, she was at my windscreen taking photos of me. Eventually they moved and I got out.
Maybe I shouldn't have said anything but there were loads of other places they could have parked but the parent and child spaces are limited. Its very frustrating when I've all my kids and can't find a free parent and child space because people like this who dont need them take them and they don't give a shit

For those who think C&P spaces are sacrosant - genuinely, what do you expect people to do if they have mobility issues and need additional space to get in and out safely?

“Poked her nose holes in”

🤣🤣🤣

I had a vision of OP poking her nose holes with a pencil for some reason 🤣

The one she uses to jot down details of supermarket shopper shenanigans 🤣🤣

BMW58 · 05/10/2026 16:21

Who made you the Car Park Police?
🙄

As i said in a previous post i would and I have done
Post is not about age. If these people were frail or appeared disabled regardless of age I wouldn't have said anything

I didn’t used to look disabled either. I still was.

Just keep your mouth shut regardless. Its none of your business.

Actually you said you have approached younger people about their parking in P&C bays.

You avoided saying whether you have ever approached a big burly man about parking in a P&C bay…

Well that's a rookie fucking mistake isn't it. Have you not heard of invisible disabilities?

Report them to the council.

Attach the image of their car ( including number plate) as evidence.

That will teach the arrogant fools to be agressive to a mother with a child.

What would the Council do?

Not all disabled people appear so - same goes for elderly people with disabilities. It’s much harder for an older person to qualify for a blue badge because age related factors are not taken into consideration - only those caused by measurable disability.

😂😂

You have a real way with words.

Do you write for a living?

Rosscameasdoody · 05/10/2026 16:23

Megifer · 05/10/2026 16:22

What would the Council do?

Absolutely nothing. Theoretically, with a few specific exceptions, anyone can park in a parent and child space - they are a concession and have no legal standing.

Bigfattwat · 05/10/2026 16:24

Megifer · 05/10/2026 16:22

The council will do fuck all - it’s a supermarket car park!

I would share the pic and shame them locally ! How dare he threaten you and preventing you from leaving ? Self entitled twats

KaleidoscopeSmile · 05/10/2026 16:22

Exactly. Judgemental on so many levels and clearly not understanding that parent and child spaces are provided as concessions. They have no legal standing in most cases.

Rosscameasdoody · 05/10/2026 16:20

OP did you happen to notice if they had a blue badge on their car ? Or whether there were any blue badge spaces left in the car park ? With a few specific exceptions parent and child spaces are not protected by law - they are a concession so really you didn’t have a reason to try to stop them parking there, especially since you had your own parking space sorted. If they’re elderly and had mobility problems they may have needed the space because it was closer to the entrance or provided more space to get the doors open wider to get in and out.

I have a blue badge and I need to deal with a wheelchair. if there are no convenient spaces I will use a parent and child space. If I was elderly and had mobility problems I would use a parent and child space if I wasn’t granted a blue badge. You are not the car park police and on this occasion I think you were wrong to challenge.

Surely they'd have said if htey had a blue badge?

A relative has FM - can walk perfectly well, in fact goes on many walking holidays a year.

She has a blue badge 🤷‍♀️

Blue badge handing out has no consistency across the country. Here it’s the local council who decides if you can have one. I have a diagnosed medical condition which affects my mobility. I filled out the form, added proof of diagnosis and got declined. 🤷‍♀️. I struggle on but some days it’s really difficult.

OP had no business confronting them. She isn’t the car park police and they weren’t doing anything wrong.

CherryViper · 05/10/2026 16:25

YANBU

If you haven't got DC with you, you should park elsewhere and not in the Parent and Child parking.

I think pointing out the parked selfishly is okay. They already knew and didn't care.

I'm surprised more people are saying yabu. Their reaction was unhinged, especially as you had a baby in the car.

Gutachenow · 05/10/2026 16:26

Could you BE anymore entitled and self righteous OP?
Mind your own business. You can’t tell if they had a disability anyway so bore off 👍

EmeraldShamrock000 · 05/10/2026 16:26

Yes. You were out of order.

Bigfattwat · 05/10/2026 16:26

I don’t have to explain to anyone anything about my private health conditions.

do you also judge bb space users who don’t look disabled enough for you @Icecreamsundaz ?

Absolutely this. In addition if you are elderly it’s much more difficult to secure a blue badge because it only considers difficulties brought on by disability, not the advancement of age. @IzzyLeng do you by any chance claim PIP ? If you get the standard rate of mobility allowance or a certain combination of points from both mobility and daily living you would automatically qualify for a blue badge.

Bad example to set baby
