Altercation in carpark

Icecreamsundaz · 05/10/2026 13:30

I was in a supermarket carpark, I had put my baby in her carseat and had just loaded my groceries in the boot. A car parked in the parent and child space next to me and an older couple got out, early 70s I would guess, able bodied, no kids with them
I said "sorry do you realise thats s parent and child space" and I pointed to the markings.
Well his response was very rude in tone "I came here to do my shopping, not to dance around" ?? "It should be first come first served " and they stormed off. I was a bit taken aback, I said loudly but they were a bit away at this point so not sure if they heard me "god id hate to be so ignorant". I took a picture of their car. Not really sure what I was going to do with it, thinking I would think about it and perhaps report to management. I got into my car
The next he was at my window "you took a photo, its illeageal to take photos of other people's property, delete it." I ensured my doors were locked, he stood behind my car so I couldn't reverse out, she was at my windscreen taking photos of me. Eventually they moved and I got out.
Maybe I shouldn't have said anything but there were loads of other places they could have parked but the parent and child spaces are limited. Its very frustrating when I've all my kids and can't find a free parent and child space because people like this who dont need them take them and they don't give a shit

Couldn’t leave as had not finished her shift as car park police.

🤣🤣

Does the role come with a hat?

CrappyEndOfStick · 05/10/2026 17:22

OP, I’m in my 50’s and I’ve learnt that this kind of crap is not worth your headspace and effort.

Just look after your own family and friends, let nice people into your life and ignore everyone else.

The Uk is now full of selfish entitled people or they’re completely dangerous.

Honestly, don’t spend time on dickheads. They’re not worth it. Think of your time and energy as money. Would you spend it on this couple? No, you wouldn’t.

nomas · 05/10/2026 17:22

No I genuinely changed my mind 😔

Your ironic responses are clearly wasted on these lot 🤣

🙄🤣🤣🤣 , because it’s so easy to prove right ?

The onus would be on OP to.prove that what she said was true or very specifically in the public interest.

The old couple would only need to prove that a statement had been made, identifying them, and that they had suffered a loss (financial, reputation, or other) because of it.

If someone else wrote anything germane on their car in lipstick then OPs post would be regarded as contributory.

I don't think people have to prove they are disabled. But if someone is accusing a disabled person of not having the right to use a car parking spot isn't the logical response to point out that they are disabled, which comes with the added satisfaction of having won the argument and putting the accuser in their place?

If you’re talking about a disabled person parking in a disabled spot then the blue badge does the talking. If they have one no discussion is necessary. If it’s directly to do with what happened with OP then I think you have to consider the fact that it wasn’t illegal for them to park in the P&C space in the first place. If they’re in a position where the disability falls short of blue badge qualification and they regularly use P&C spaces as an alternative then it may be very tedious having to explain themselves each time - especially if they’re met with the type of behaviour OP displayed. And there is no legal reason they have to.

nomas · 05/10/2026 17:20

How bizarre. Megifer is a carer for her incontinent mum and instead of supporting her, you support the person who thinks Megifer’s car should be vandalised by a car seat wielding mum.

Did the Be Kind movement pass you by?

Tbf shes not incontinent. She does have a sense of humour and would have laughed at that comment though. Although she likes Ann Droid so her humour is a bit questionable IMO. (Apologies to anyone who likes that show!)

YourWildAmberSloth · 05/10/2026 17:23

I wouldn't have said anything because think that elderly people should be able to use these spaces or should be provided with similar spaces of their own - maybe reallocate half for the elderly. For the same reasons that parents with young children find them useful, more space to open doors and they are usually nearer to the entrance. My mum struggles to get in and out of a car, and is less steady on her feet than she once was, she walks a bit slower than before - manouvering a supermarket carpark is just as difficult with her as it would have been with DS when he was a toddler. She wasn't disabled, so no blue badge, but is elderly which can bring its own challenges.

Gutachenow · 05/10/2026 17:21

I’m tempted to start using them now, just to piss off entitled parents.

Please don't.

-From a normal, nice parent who just wants to do her shopping/ be able to get a little one in and out of the car.

Loub1987 · 05/10/2026 17:24

I think everyone would be happier if they just calmed down and went about their own business.

It’s funny that they think they know your mum better than you do!

(I haven’t seen Ann Droid yet, is it the one with the actress from Motherland?)

Not possible. Have you not noticed the increase in seemingly permanently angry people since Covid ?

EscCtrl · 05/10/2026 16:56

If the elderly couple had disabilities then would they not have said so, and won the argument? And hopefully gotten an apology? The elderly couple didn't make that case in a prolonged argument. That inclines me to think they probably weren't disabled.

Why on EARTH should this elderly couple tell the OP about their health issues and disabilities?! What a silly post. They owe the OP NOTHING! No explanation, nothing.

I won’t then as you asked so nicely 😀

Myli1 · 05/10/2026 17:27

You were absolutely right. I find it annoying how elderly people can become so self-entitled and cantankerous just because they’re old. The spaces are clearly marked for parents with children, so they were quite obviously in the wrong place.

Edited

If their disability fell short of a blue badge the I'd expect them to say they have difficulty walking. If I were disabled and someone accused me of not deserving a space then I'd take great delight in telling them about my disability and winning the argument. There was a prolonged argument. They did not bring up disability as a justification. That inclines me to believe they were not disabled.

For those who think C&P spaces are sacrosant - genuinely, what do you expect people to do if they have mobility issues and need additional space to get in and out safely?

Why they expect them to struggle. How dare they encroach on their rights as parents. Rules is rules donchya know 😂

Agree. Since when was being a parent a disability?
