AIBU to be shocked by the cost of four pizzas and basics?

Guess how much my shopping basket cost:

2 x margarita pizzas & 2 x pepperoni pizzas (supermarket brand - in a box tho, not the cheaper cellophane wrapped ones)
2 x tubes toothpaste (oral B)
2 x tubs Vicks Vapo-rub

I have been to the doctor and stopped at Co-op as I needed a few things missed off the weekly shop.

@Merryoldgoat whoop whoop!!! 🤣🤣 Brought some vaporub myself the other day and was shocked at the price....

This is where you went wrong. Co-op is too expensive.

Was there no Asda or Aldi nearby?

LateNightOne · 05/10/2026 13:39

Now I remember why I buy toothpaste in Poundland...

Meandthegherkin · 05/10/2026 13:39

There is a huge difference in the price of different types of toothpaste that brands provide so you can’t use that as a reference- I could buy “Colgate” for £1.50 or £10 depending on what time of toothpaste I bought.

So you just know anout Beer and Pizza.
Not a bad place to be, tbh😁

Yep 😂

Sartre · 05/10/2026 13:51

4 pizzas from Aldi is about a tenner. Oral B is always expensive, as is coop.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 05/10/2026 14:01

Well in savers where I’d go, Vicks is £5.49 and oral b you can get pack of 2 for £3.49

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 05/10/2026 14:01

My toothpaste (sensitive) is £1 from Tesco. Perfectly adequate

LateNightOne · 05/10/2026 13:39

Exactly. £1 or £2 max

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 05/10/2026 14:03

I’m certain the health point Vapor rub from savers at £1 is just as good as the Vicks brand

bafta16 · 05/10/2026 14:04

£40.00 was my guess.

Ridiculous.

I had a small rebellion the other day and spent an unplanned £50.00 in M and S.

Buying branded anything is just funding the marketing industry, and I don't support evil enterprises 🤣

(Apart from Gu chocolate puddings, I am sure they don't use any marketing people and they all regularly rescue kittens)

Yes. That too.

bababamama · 05/10/2026 14:09

Coop is expensive though, however our local one has good discounted food often and their bacon though not cheap is the best of any supermarket. Convenient location is their usp plus they open past 4pm on Sundays

Summerishere123 · 05/10/2026 14:10

I wanted a joint of beef yesterday for dinner and it was £22 for roughly 1.2kg. Fucking ridiculous.

bababamama · 05/10/2026 14:10

Ps I have Asda own brand vapour rub, just the same, a tad out of date exp 2021

wishingonastar101 · 05/10/2026 14:11

Why would anyone need two tubs for Vicks? Doesn't one jar last an entire lifetime? I'm pretty sure my mum has a tub from the 70's....

I cannot live without vapo rub in the house. I’m gonna need to find a black market source.

I know that the coop stone baked pizza are around £4 each, I also know they’re often on an offer, 2 pizzas and a 4 pack of beers for about £7, so free beers!
No idea about the others though.

Or recently, 2 pizzas and a tub of Ben & jerry's for £6.
given that they charge £5.95 for the B&J's, that's two pizzas for 5p!

helloWatt · 05/10/2026 14:14

£32

When you have three people with the shittest immune systems it’s invaluable. I’m in the midst of a shitty chest infection and covering myself in it is all that’s stopped my cough making me wet myself.

What are you using it for? Is it some new dodgy sex thing I’m unaware of ? 😂

Merryoldgoat · 05/10/2026 14:14

LateNightOne · 05/10/2026 14:07

Yes. That too.

I am going to look for a savers. I need some for my emergency kit.

Do you not have a home bargains/pound shop near you?

they’re brilliant for toiletries and household cleaning stuff

takealettermsjones · 05/10/2026 14:15

I don't know about the price difference because it's a while since I bought it but Tiger Balm does a better job than vaporub for me, and it smells better ☺️
