The Strange Death of Pillock

When I was a kid in the 80s, pillocks were everywhere. Even I was sometimes a pillock. Nowadays you never hear about pillocks. It’s gone the way of wazzock and bounder.

AIBU to rail against the death of pillock?

Thirty years ago my rather prim headmistress banned the game of pushpillock in the playground as it was swearing. I was mystified, but it does indeed come from pillicock ie penis. Every day's a school day.

Dinlo is used near me, but I think it's specific to Portsmouth only. Presume it's an alternative to Wassock, Pillock, Twerp etc.

Dinlo is Romani/Traveller for a crazy person.

I feel like I've just wandered into a thread about my dad. He still uses all of these. Mostly while driving.

Sometimes you hear younger ones using Boomer slang, as some call it. Heard wally and crumbs from a nephew's friends!

My 7YO says crikey a lot. I think she's picked it up from the Beano.

I seem to encounter a lot of pillocks when caught in traffic. I'm going to try to switch to some of the gentler and more childfriendly suggestions recalled by this thread.

I've never given up using pillock, or occasionally wazzock. Bounder is a new one on me though.
