The Strange Death of Pillock

Jivby · Yesterday 22:39

When I was a kid in the 80s, pillocks were everywhere. Even I was sometimes a pillock. Nowadays you never hear about pillocks. It’s gone the way of wazzock and bounder.

AIBU to rail against the death of pillock?

Pillock, wassock and bounder are all excellent words, although the latter is quite different to the other two (which are interchangeable IME).

Pillock is an oft used phrase in my family so it definitely hasn’t disappeared.

I'm trying to reignite plonker

You prannet.
In fact, you don't even hear 'prat' that much any more.
Or 'chauvinist pig'!

How do we all feel about bonking?

Yes I am also keeping plonker alive. I reckon miranda would find it a satisfying word.

An excellent tribute to the late great Jilly Cooper, and a jolly good word.

flourella · Yesterday 22:49

I still use pillock, and indeed was derided as one by my dad just this afternoon.

WearingBeautifulShoes · Yesterday 22:49

Pillock is buried somewhere along with Wally and Divvy.

Inventorofthetoasterstreudel · Yesterday 22:50

I resurrected pillock recently. I really needed to stop calling everyone a bellend.

ElizaToolittle · Yesterday 22:52

Pillock, bellend and plonker. Often called upon in our house! Numpty a current fave.

takealettermsjones · Yesterday 22:54

Pillock is a great word, but very different in meaning from wazzock imo. A perfectly nice person can be a daft wazzock (affectionate) if they say something amusingly dim, but pillock is almost always derogatory: an inconsiderate oaf who is also possibly stupid.

I still say both of them quite a lot! Never heard of bounder though.

Pillock, wazzock, divvy, wally all alive and well here. Plonker, bonking and bounder , RIP

FucksakeLavender · Yesterday 22:56

There was a rotten cad who cut me up in his Audi today.

I let him know I was jolly displeased.

Nofeckingway · Yesterday 22:58

Feel like I am listening to an episode of Porridge .

Seeline · Yesterday 22:59

I called someone a wazzock the other day when they cut me up at a junction. My 22yo DD hadn't heard the word before and was greatly impressed 😆

Fuckmyliferightnow · Yesterday 23:03

I also love Berk.

Dolallytats · Yesterday 23:07

My sister's ex husband is referred to as The Pillock when we talk about him. Used both prat and numpty this morning because my dog is an idiot!!
I use plank a lot and found it funny when my neighbour called someone a spanner cos I haven't heard that in a long time!!

I am putting in a punt for one of my Dad's sayings

"Big Girls Blouse"
No idea what it means though.

And Jeff . As in "What the Jeff"

tinytemper66 · Yesterday 23:11

I often use it on certain platforms.

I call my son a wally sometimes (very affectionately), I haven’t heard it anywhere else in years though.

FabulousWealthyTart · Yesterday 23:17

I never knew berk was rhyming slang.
Also where have nobbers gone?

TreadmillFilingCabinet · Yesterday 23:19

My gf & I have just howled at this thread 😆

I’ve been trying to bring wazzock back into general circulation for some time.

She wishes to add “wallop” to the list. As in “you pair of great wallops” which she claimed the dog called us both recently.
