AIBU to ask if we are doing alright financially?

I’m 30 with 2 kids under 3
I am married and I work part time whilst DH works full.
The kids go nursery 3 times a week.
I am able to save £250 a month and also invest £250 a month too. I contribute £400 monthly into my SIPP as I’m self employed.

I can’t do any more than this currently as I would rather not work more than 3 days while the kids are small.

I have £40,000 invested. We have a small mortgage of around £65,000 left on our home.

My husband also had savings but he’s using them to take over an existing business franchise.

Are we doing ok as a young family?

It’s a 3 bed semi, it was last valued at roughly £220,000
I saved and invested the £40k before I had kids from my job
My husband is about to take over a well run business franchise and I will be helping him with it as we both work in the same field

Is the £40k you have before or after the £30k you’re giving your husband for this business opp @Handlepop ?

MN is funded by advertising. Companies only advertise if they think they are getting sufficient exposure. Basically the more posts, the more advertisers are likely to pay. So MN creates lots of threads that are likely to be controversial and therefore create lots of traffic. More traffic = more money. Most of the big forums do it, it's standard practice.

From a reader's point of view it doesn't hugely matter but I do think forum owners should be forced to label their own posts so people can choose whether to interact. It might also save some blood from boiling on threads like this which is clearly designed to piss people off.

Yeah this. We are all working for MN. Providing free content.

I should really get off this forum.

It’s you again 🙄. This is at least the third thread I’ve read with exactly the same figures.

WallyHilloughby · 01/10/2026 15:49

Oh I have read different figures

Fact is, @Handlepop probably would benefit from starting a thread, just not about money

WaterlooBridge · 01/10/2026 15:54

I think it’s the third time this has been posted, at least. What are you looking for op? Reassurance? A big and envious reaction?

I think there’s “issues”

Funkymumma1 · 01/10/2026 18:24

ohhh now I know the value of your home then no you’re not doing that well. We have a million pound mortgage and the house is worth around 1.6million (has a pool too 😄)I have 3 kids in private school and not a penny in savings. Am I doing ok?

fumingrightnow1 · 01/10/2026 18:45

I have £2.47 in my account until I'm paid tomorrow and I thought that was doing well. Making it to the end off the month without going into my overdraft I take as a win

Gogogo75 · 01/10/2026 18:58

I have £600 to last me until the 28th. All bills are paid though xXx

I don’t think you need to ask us. You know the answer.

Acafan · 01/10/2026 20:19

Are you trying to sell an dodgy online course or something?

PatNoodle · 01/10/2026 20:30

tbh I can’t believe you only put £900 a month away and have £40k in savings. I put £1.5k away on days ending in y and have £48 million saved and I’m only 14

AttachmentFTW · 01/10/2026 20:32

Humble brags are so dull

HeyThereDelila · 01/10/2026 20:34

Why start a thread to brag?

That IS a win, so many people aren’t able to do this. 👏🏾

lilkitten · 03/10/2026 13:38

I didn't have any savings at 30. Different at 40, and now I'm late-40s I've got no mortgage and a fair bit saved but just getting through and paying the bills was my focus at 30.

Happyd · 03/10/2026 14:03

Go away OP ..

DoubleOFeckinBollocks · 03/10/2026 14:33

Are you the same poster that keeps posting similar bollocks?

If it helps, my kids are in their 20s and in a much better financial position.

Yupstillhere · 03/10/2026 14:37

Ha ha ha, ffs

Ha, that makes sense, I didn't realise they do that, what a crock of shite. Yes they should label them as fiction.

Wow - what a great position to be in.

I am stunned that you need other people to tell you that.

Sometimes people feel validated by the need to let others know
